McGarry has stated she doesn’t have much personal loyalty to UND because she is a UNLV grad. The thinking that she’ll be interested donor from the family foundation hasn’t had a basis in facts for years. Too much wishful thinking here. -

Roger Thomas was never a brainiac for finances. Alice Brekke may have signed off originally, but Kupchella and Kelley sure didn’t push to change it later when the Betty was built for a new DI facility. -
He has promised Aussie recruits for USD.

Here’s a write up on Brad Davidson going to USD: https://www.argusleader.com/story/sports/college/university-of-south-dakota/2018/05/10/university-south-dakota-coyotes-adds-brad-davidson-mens-basketball-staff-north-dakota-fighting-hawks/598237002/ The pace and space game is more important than ever. Villanova has used it masterfully to win chanpionships. Taking 3-point shot and making them are very important. Think Davidson understands that more than most.

The 501(C)(3) charity is the one that calls the overall shots, like a Board of Directors. The other two official organizations are executives in charge of handling day to day operations. Back in 2001 or later when the Betty was proposed, it made sense for UND athletics to go in by granting the REA 52% of basketball and football tickets to the REA. Hyslop needed a replacement, the Ralph needed an attached area that would serve other purposes, like in did for the U20 World Juniors tournament and the Ralph could issue bonds for constructing the Betty, which UND is not allowed to do. The Betty was also allowed to serve beer, which is forbidden at other locations on campus. But the Betty had a very strict construction budget, unlike the Ralph. Heard back then through a vendor that the Betty really went cheap on things a spectator wouldn’t see, like the quality of electrical devices and presuming roofing materials. The Ralph on the other hand was built first class in everything. But after 15 years, the Betty still hasn’t paid off those bonds, although mostly interest payments have been made. But that agreement really constrains football to upgrade its facilities, and that is where Kennedy is most concerned IMHO. Football shouldn’t be tied together with the Ralph. If the 501(C)(3) board made an effort with the HPC or other facilities, there would be no concerns by me. Maybe they have made efforts, but tha hasn’t been reported. -

The REA agreed to house basketball and Vball for 52% of their and fb’s take. If the REA hadn’t been cost cutting on construction, the roof might have lasted longer. Maybe it was private money to remake to locker room, but if UND was in charge that gift would probably be rejected or sent to more noble cause. The REA Trust can accept charitable gifts. Rejections of gifts happens by universities when people want to give to some pet project that aren’t inline with the Unversities priorities. Come 2030, that will play out. The hockey teams own chef is paid for by REA funds. Some women’s team now gets that now too, rather than women’s hockey, but basketball teams don’t get their own chef to make meals. They.have cafeteria like all the other dorm students and a snack bar after practice. Not against the REA being a palace for hockey, as it is needed for recruiting, just don’t like other sports being treated like peons. -

There are numerous examples for hockey taking precedence over other programs, and having the REA getting money from basketball and football and having options to plow it back into hockey facilities. Cases in point: the hockey team getting a shiny state of the art new locker room when their old one was 15 years old with fb helping pay it, while the football team has to deal with one almost a century old. The REA had total control over that fiasco. Hockey coaches are paid at the top of the line, while fb and mbb, especially assistants, aren’t paid squat, even at their levels. The REA can insist on paying hockey coaches top rate, but damn if they will insist on paying other coaches. The other coaches are held to a UND pride standpoint as far as their salaries, but not hockey. Didn’t see the REA squawking about a men’s B.B. assistant that took a USD job today that pays reportedly 50% more. After all, more than half of B-ball and f-ball money is run through the REA for what hockey minds want to do with it. Fully support hockey, but don’t trust the REA Trust’s vision for the benefit of all UND athletics. The REA Trust is like the slum lord overseer for all sports but hockey. -

Have long posited the UND will have a donated fb stadium on the former Ray Richards course. This prediction has been brutalized here, but if it is comes to pass, Kennedy would absolutely need to renegotiate the football part of the payments to the REA. Any President would do that. McGarry would look so parochial, as if she doesn’t have UND’s best interest at heart. UND Fb would need to be a cash cow too. The terms of the REA contract make hockey premiere by default. Without this change, FB is no more important than women’s soccer with much more expenses. -

Majors were not cut. The Commication School was dismembered and it’s parts brought under different schools as the leadership was so commicatively dysfunctional. -

Why does the REA Trust get 52% of ticket revenue for football? That seems totally egricious, as it limits how much fb can bring in to UND. MBB, WBB, and VB need the REA facilities. FB doesn’t get helped in the least. The REA may market fb a little bit, but not a 52% share. If Kennedy is trying to get the FB share down, all the more power to him. -

Like Kupchella and Kelley got along royally with McGarry so the Engelstad Trust showered UND with big gifts. The REA Trust and UND athletics need to both be in good financial health. Kennedy should just talk with the lawyer of the Engelstads and the Trust, as he wouldn’t get all up in arms about a renegotiation. -
Didn’t see the story on this in the Herald, which prefers to write stories on things that tear down Kennedy. http://www.kfyrtv.com/content/news/North-Dakota-DOT-chosen-to-participate-in-drone-program-482238221.html

NDUS Budget Cuts (changed name to be system-wide)

Mary is starting ACHA DI hockey next year, and hockey players often bring their girlfriends. Mary has also greatly expanded its engineering program, with UND’s help. it’s business school has also gotten more $ from Tharaldson. -
A building over four stories needs deep pilings to keep it from slowly dropping/slipping or hinging from the massive sediment layer here. The weight just is too much. Most other cities don’t have nearly so deep of a sediment layer before they hit bedrock. Winnipeg and Fargo buildings more than four stories are expensive to construct, as well as the Mill as well as the Canad Inn and Columbia Towers. San Francisco is another expensive place to build high rises, as bedrock is 300 ft below the surface. https://www.wired.com/2015/11/it-took-18-hours-to-pour-san-franciscos-biggest-ever-concrete-foundation/

Oakland County needs rinks. Someone said somewhere that Oakland wouldn’t use an off site rink. There were more than one news story on this. Get over yourself as the one source. FBS doesn’t have to be announced by July 1st but the Montana’s and Idaho are moving.

Chaves isn’t going to reveal Kennedy’s total vision to you. Are you kidding. I was wrong on the Summit because I didn't think two FBS leagues would be birthed out of the WAC remnants. I’ve admitted that I was wrong but you keep harping on it. IPFW, ORU and W Illinois are not schools for UND to associate with. That was my point that never sinks into your skull. People in athletic departments are clueless what will happen about this on order from the Presidents, but you take words from people like Southpaw’s position as some sort of gospel. A WAC will be realigned soon and the Summit moves will follow. By July 1st.

Your ignorance makes you a comedian. So Faison is going to blab the Montana’s are moving over. Faison is awfully good at fibbing, like the time he said the Fighting Sioux nickname was the talk of a Big Sky AD teleconference. Sac St AD said the nickname wasn’t even discussed, but Miller at the Herald had a story with only one source Faison and this board was so sure UND would be evicted from the Big Sky. Craves was on a Sit Down and Cheer podcast where he talked about he and his wife were Whalers season ticket holder, that he was on the committee that hired Rand Pecknold at the Q and why the AD is a lonely job because you can’t reveal things and promise to much. Listen to it. You will always be a peon in an athletic department if you take the word of AD’s and Presidents seriously at all times. Much of what they say is PR and they don’t tell anyone about their vision unless you have money or power. Your behavior is borderline LakesBison. Instead of saying NDSU to the MWC, your duty is to squelch any talk of FBS anywhere. So Larson is in your back pocket sitting on his *ss and eating sausages.

The UTRGV fb feasibility article stated as soon as next week. Chaves is starting a podcast where he will explain the workings of conference affiliation. Apparently Chaves feels the need to educate fans like you. It’s either go bigger or fall back like Idaho State, which hasn’t done anything significant in 30 years. Obviously, you don’t listen to me because I’ve explained all of your issues before. If Chaves can’t convince you, there is no hope for you ever understanding.

The time is coming for a new FBS WAC to be announced. It will be: WAC FBS Pacific Divsion NMSU /GCU* UC Davis / Sac St Cal Poly / Cal Baptist* Plains Division UTRGV / Sam Houston St S F Austin / Lamar Incarnate Word or Wichita St (fb only) / Oral Roberts* Mo St (fb only) / UMKC* * no fb When ORU leaves the Summit, that will cause the Summit to take the Montana’s, Idaho and Weber St. The new Summit will be closely aligned with the new WAC and all the fb members will transition to FBS. If the new Summit affiliated with the WAC for two years in fb as they FBS transition, no NCAA waiver is required and the league maintains its auto bid. Was wrong that UND would be part of that new WAC, but right that the WAC still holds some cards, even for UND. The Big Sky will have to rebuild, taking UVU, Seattle, CWU, Azusa Pacific, and Dixie St over several years.
