  1. Hmmm. I know where to find a bunch of captive people who are already available for those class times and whose education is already fully subsidized…HIGH SCHOOL. It seems that society looks to trade schools, colleges, and universities almost exclusively to meet workforce needs, but we definitely need to expand our thinking. A quarter or module of HS devoted to CDL might actually draw students, and could open a pipeline that will address the problem. Anybody know if these programs exist? And speaking about captive learners, what about prisons?
  2. Watch…this will be the next Title 9 battleground: equal access to drivers and equal cancellations due to transportation.
  3. If it's gastrointestinal, maybe we can scramble and put together some NOYAK sweaters for Saturday.
  4. A few reasons Zags works: 1. Monosyllabic, fun, rolls easily off the tongue. 2. Plural; singular sounding nicknames tend to suck, or at least be hard to modify for casual use. 3. People (fans and media) actually use it. Nodak is more of a placeholder, something that desperately wants to be a fun alt-identity, but isn't. Try it with North Carolina. Everybody loves "Carolina" and the "Heels," but has anyone ever used "Nocar"? "Daks" would be closer, but still doesn't flow because people say "Duh-Kota" and not "Daa-kota." Great monikers happen, but cannot be forced.
  5. Twitch is basically just someone else’s pirated stream, right?
  6. Curious where others stand on the Amazon Prime exclusive streaming deal for Thursday Night Football that launched yesterday and lasts (I think) several years. Regular NFL viewer here, but not a Prime subscriber (I have too many services and subs as it is.). I had frankly forgotten about it until last night and then was mildly annoyed that the game wasn’t televised but made no effort to watch or follow the game whatsoever. I think this hurts the NFL long-term, but what say you?
  7. One of many Beck’s downed at the beginning of the school year.
  8. So, Badlands = Buttlands? And Devils Lake blows? And poor MN basically gets tag-teamed from behind?
  9. Face value, I agree. TM fees on the other hand? For people who don't attend a lot of events, and are looking to stretch their entertainment dollar, watching a $20 ticket magically turn into a $26 (or more) ticket can be rage-inducing. I know some people prefer transparency, which is why the base price is shown to begin with, but the ticketing industry needs to be launched into space and we need to start fresh.
  10. Train wreck.
  11. Boutique shops and storefronts and small commercial spaces may make landowners and developers money and generate tax revenue, but for many of us they don't exactly move the QOL needle, especially when they consist of niche or non-essential goods and services. Food and mainline retail are always going to make a bigger splash, and popular chains and familiar brands will make visitors and new arrivals to the area feel more welcome, and will diminish dependence on trips to Fargo. There needs to be a better balance between the two.
  12. Now do Fargo. By comparison (which is inevitable), GF feels stagnant. And I try to be optimistic. The economic growth just isn't palpable.
  13. Many cities have unflattering areas nearest their airports...just a function of where airports tend to be, and nearby land utilization. That said, you can always head south - past the bison - and then take Demers into town. Other than a seedy concrete plant and a dumpy, old self-storage, you do get a remodeled Amtrak station, a glimpse of the western edge of UND's campus, a golf course, and the Alerus/Canad complex with ringed with newer hotels. Drive a little further south, and 32nd gives you some bustle and promise (after a lot of nothing), but there's still some vacant retail, vacant restaurants, and a clinically dead mall. There's not enough lipstick to dress GF up as much more than it is (a bluish-collar and proud college town with economic vulnerability and somewhat stagnant growth), and it would be hard to take someone on a 'perfect' driving tour from the airport that would leave them feeling otherwise. Maybe a helicopter? But damn...have you seen the old Ambassador Motel site? Something is rising from the ashes!
  14. This guy approves.
  15. No...that particular monorail is being built in Shelbyville.

  17. Pretty non-scientific analysis, especially when you compare the retail/resale market for used and/or knockoff items (heavily favors eBay and Sioux) to that for new and officially licensed product (many more, and more reputable, outlets for Hawks gear). Adjust for that, and then the data will begin to make sense, and potentially be more persuasive. I still use the eye-test at the Alerus and Ralph, where the Hawks are definitely gaining ground.
  18. Nice write-up, but, OOF...that spelling. https://omaha.com/sports/huskers/football/two-omahans-will-play-at-memorial-stadium-for-first-time-against-nebraska/article_ebcd38aa-28b0-11ed-a0cd-6fc6e543c330.html?utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter_OWHhuskers Although, if the game ends in a rout, they will have seemed prescient.
  19. This is a huge nothingburger. Heck, at Hogwarts, they let the dearly departed mingle with the students in the dining hall.
  20. On the last day of August, my true love gave to me...
