  1. Griz landed a QB transfer https://www.espn.com/college-football/player/_/id/4605998/logan-fife
  2. Danny could choose to retain the OC. Given that UND was trying to pay Danny more money to stay and remain the OC at UND, I don't think people will view it like that (UND hiring an FCS position coach). It's not like he was demoted. The more I think about it, the more I think he plans to come back.
  3. Also, it's gotta be tough if you're an OC when the head coach doesn't want to retire, and you want, and are ready, to be head coach for the same team. Danny being successful would have increased the likelihood of a Bubba extension, blocking his path to the head coaching job. A dilemma.
  4. Searching his name on this forum and going back to the oldest posts is fairly interesting... helps to provide some of that context to the decision at the time.
  5. WOW! I just found the best thing ever. Click here -> https://www.midmajormadness.com/2019/11/4/20946421/ncaa-basketball-head-coach-contract-salary-database-mid-major-2019-20 Database of like 150 D1 contracts, including Sathers. It doesn't seem to have the extended version of the contract, though.
  6. Not sure if this includes bonuses, but it looks possible that Danny made more at UND than Lujan did at SDSU. I think he expected Bubba to hand over the reigns, and he left because that didn't happen. Just a guess. Kinda think the move was more about UND than SDSU. https://openpayrolls.com/zachary-d-lujan-120421082
  7. I never said in cash "reserves", specifically. Some if it is in reserve funds and a lot of it isn't. And I'm not saying that there is a boogeyman. I don't think anyone is being swindled. My speculation is that there could be some disagreement with how some of the money could be spent, so it just isn't spent at all. Their liabilities are mostly either payables to UND for various reasons or deferred revenue. From what I can tell, they don't have lenders either. My overall point isn't that anyone is stealing money or anything like that. It's that there is money that can be better utilized to help other programs, and money doesn't necessarily need to be taken away from hockey in order to do it.
  8. Don't leave out poaching some of their talent! One can dream lol.
  9. I like both sports as well. I started out as a hockey fan, mainly, because I grew up playing and because I knew some people on the team. The reason I became a big FB fan was because I could never get my friends to go to games with me, because "we suck" (Mussman days).. One of the friends grew up in Fargo and would even follow Bison FB. I want the FB program to get better so that my friends are interested enough to watch both sports. FB could absolutely have one of the best fan bases in the country - the potential is there! That's why I harp so much on the usage agreement with the REA. I think it's important to note, however, that the weight room renovation and locker room were paid for, entirely, by a donation from the Engelstad Foundation. REA/UND money was not used for those projects. The scoreboard was 4 million Engelstad Foundation money and 2 Million REA money. This differentiation is important because the money for the weight room and locker room renovations, specifically, could not have gone to other programs. There IS a bunch of money sitting over there, but from what I can tell, it isn't really being re invested in athletics. My point is that reworking the usage agreement wouldn't necessarily hurt the hockey program at all. I get that the usage agreement will not be changed until 2030, but if there are funding issues for FB or any of the sports at the Betty, I will bring this up. The REA needs to be more transparent with their planning process if they aren't going to distribute more money to UND at the end of the year. If they are holding excess cash than what is needed for day to day operations, and if they are not distributing it to UND at the end of the year, and if they are not putting it in their restricted improvements fund (where UND has more oversight as to how it is spent), then that is a problem, imo.
  10. Did they? "The plan also calls for an endowment that will be required to sustain men's golf for FY 19 and beyond. The University and the UND Alumni Association & Foundation will establish the long-term funding dollar amount for the endowment, which will need to be fully capitalized by June 1, 2018 for men's golf to continue." https://fightinghawks.com/news/2016/8/31/211157610.aspx https://blogs.und.edu/und-today/2018/06/ray-richards-legacy-endures/ Without getting too technical, Chaves said the hope is that the sale of UND land will spur enough revenue to endow men’s golf so that it can cover its annual operational expenses. Revenue above what men’s golf needs could then be used to continue jumpstarting fundraising efforts for HPC 2. Men’s golf would require a base endowment of about $4.1 million to cover its annual $125-150,000 operational costs, Chaves said. “This is all about spinning out 4 percent every year on that roughly $4 million to cover the operational aspect of running the men’s golf program,” he said. “That’s the concept.” Using simple arithmetic, if UND fetches $8 million from its lands sales and uses a little more than half of it to endow men’s golf, theory is the remaining could be used in fundraising for HPC 2. The UND golf programs also could see benefits from features, yet unspecified, planned for HPC 2. https://news.prairiepublic.org/education/2018-10-16/und-golf-course-sale-golf-endowment-fund-discussed-at-board-of-higher-education-committee-meeting Dated Oct 16th, 2018
  11. I don't have any disdain for hockey or the REA, and I mostly agree with you. And Bubba never should have be extended when he was (I think his initial hire was fine but Danny should have been promoted when Bubbas last contract expired). However, it's concerning that Kennedy wasn't able to get her to budge at all when it came to the split in ticket revenue. The REA has something like 15 million in cash (I get that they need a few million for general operations, etc), and there isn't any transparency in what they plan to do with it. In addition to that, the usage agreement changed from it spelling out exactly how net income would be distributed, to saying that a portion of net income will be distributed to UND as determined by the UAS board of directors, and it doesn't say how that determination will be made. So if they are keeping millions in cash on hand, I think it would be reasonable to expect them to be more transparent as to their reasoning and plans. UND has had an addition to the Betty on it's master plan for years - is the REA on board with that? Who the hell knows! Going to the press with the goal of ousting the president has caused me to question a certain person's motives, and THAT isn't UND's fault.
  12. You're probably right. But that doesn't mean she shouldn't be called out when merited. Look at the basketball court design drama... she's a great friend to have as long as UND does exactly what she wants.
  13. I was answering a question. SHE is not the biggest donor in the school's history. However, it seems that she want's UND to be beholden to her, even if that takes getting the president fired. Why else refuse to improve the usage agreement?
  14. I don't know if you're being serious or sarcastic. People have said that she pays summer tuition for FB. It's been implied that she helps with other stuff as well. Does the REA usage agreement, in effect, require UND to be dependent on her? How nice.
  15. Probably has something to do with Kris Engelstad trying to get Kennedy fired, for his efforts to negotiate a usage agreement that benefits UND Athletics as a whole.
  16. Thanks in part to some poor journalism. He wasn't wrong.
  17. @MoSiouxFan Why did you downvote me for this? It wouldn't take an opportunity away from anyone - it would be an opportunity that UND creates itself? I may be wrong, but it looks like NDSU Teammakers made 1.7 million from gambling last year. Pretty hard to compete with that when UND isn't participating. https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/456014085/202342989349301884/full
  18. Men's and Women's basketball and VB have really gone to crap since Chaves arrived.
  19. That's where my wife and I went for our honeymoon. Actually we stayed across the street at Glorietta Bay Inn. Would go back. Absolutely loved it there.
  20. I've thought of the locations you listed. Vacation destinations are important. Flying into Austin for a game is about as appealing to me as flying into Cleveland. Florida would be a good option as well, for larger venues. Perhaps Orlando where the Solar Bears play or Tampa, for NHL size arenas. Savanah also has a nice new arena that seats about 9.5K. I've thought a location like Sioux Falls could work, for fans in the region but not necesserilly near Grand Forks. This would be for an "off" year, like next year when they play Providence. Similar arena size. Fans wouldn't need to fly, and could draw from the Twin Cities, GF, and Sioux Falls itself.
  21. I think you can stream the great lakes invitational games here https://www.uppermichiganssource.com/livestream/
