100% agree. It's too confusing and it doesn't need to be. A programs win/loss record means essentially nothing because there is so much weighting for home/away/ot wins/regulation wins. I'm fine with home and away, but the fraction of a win for OT is kind of stupid - if a team only gets a fraction of a win because 3vs3 isn't real hockey, then play real hockey in OT. 4 vs 4 is a happy medium. If anything, I'd like to see a 3vs3 win just count for a full win. It sucks that when a game goes into OT it can already feel like a pairwise loss, depending on the opponent.

Looks like UND put out a feeler for a P3 project in the NW corner of campus, near the old Dunder. Goal and Background Information "The following background information is intended to help respondents understand the needs of the UND. The University of North Dakota (“UND” or “University”) seeks interest in the development of university land, either under a long-term ground lease or through a direct land purchase from UND. The Development Site (“3A”) is located on 6th Avenue North on the south side of the street between North 42nd Street and the vacated State Street, one block west of Stanford Rd. The 3A Development Site is approximately twenty acres. The 3A Site will either be one large development parcel or could be broken out into smaller individual parcels upon consultation with and approval by UND Leadership. A Defined “phased” approach to development will be considered. Approximately half of 3A is vacant and ready for development, while the remainder currently has five existing multi-family residential apartment buildings (see Figure 1). With interest, a subsequent request will be released with greater detail obtained following the results of this request."

Agreed on getting rid of shootouts. I'm a fan of 4x4 for ten minutes, and even a goal isn't scored it will still take less time than 5 min plus shootout. With 4x4, make OT worth the full amount of a win instead of the 2/3rds like it is currently with 3x3. Make a win mean something again. 3x3 is awful with all the regrouping that's done. If 3x3 remains, call a penalty if a team regroups back past either center ice, or the blue line back into their own D zone. I think I recall Chaves saying on his podcast a year or two ago that he was in favor of 4x4 which was good to hear.

FYI, the non conference Desert Hockey Classic games are on NCHC.TV for those who have it. Cornell plays UMass starting in a few minutes.

Not sure where to put this, but this auction for Alex's Lemonade Stand has a signed Belquist jersey and mini helmet. Figured someone may be interested and its for a good cause.

2024-25 University of North Dakota Hockey Season

Was the pairwise formula changed this past offseason? I can't figure out how UND is so low and LIU is so high? -
Depends on the player, but plenty in the NAHL land scholarships. https://www.nahl.com/player-advancement/college/

Jamestown could be listed along with those schools, no?
-
They have been supporting the club program but there was a recent public fallout with the university, similar to what we saw here, so thats a good question.
-
Who cares.. they dont.
-
Same. The estimates are based on an algorithim which uses 100% historical data. It doesnt appear that they incorporated projections for things like industry growth or university growth into their population estimates.
-
Appreciate that. Thanks. Will have to look into the methodology of that. Interesting projection for GF...

Couldn't find anything beyond the overall state numbers on the census website. Would be nice if sources were linked in news articles. Frustrating.

If anyone has a picture or video of the ralph during this game I would love to see it. I've been looking for years and they are impossible to find.

Silly question, but actually kind of serious. When UND won the championship in 2016, they were apparently drinking Krampade (made in GF). At least they were according to that companies marketing. I play beer league and am getting kind of old now, but it's a high enough level and most of the guys are younger than me now. The past few years my goal had basically almost become just getting through the games without dying, and my legs would be completely shot by the end of the games. Now, I know the Nodak guys are probably better conditioned and have a better diet than me, but I tried Krampade just for kicks, and holy cow.... legitimately helped a TON and it helped to keep my muscles from tightening up towards the end of the game. WAY better endurance. Legitimately haven't been as impressed as this by a product in years. So my question - does anyone know if the team still uses Krampade? If they don't, they should. *Not an ad*

Alaska Fairbanks master plan was amended to include a new on campus hockey arena that seats 3,000. News broke first right here at Siouxsports.com https://go.boarddocs.com/ak/alaska/Board.nsf/files/DA537Y058DAB/$file/UAF_2024_CMP_Amendment-final.pdf UAA and UAF both are in the process of developing new on campus arenas that seat 3,000.https://go.boarddocs.com/ak/alaska/Board.nsf/goto?open&id=D9XPT5661C3C Robert Morris was also awarded 7 million recently by the state for the 2500 seat on campus arena that they are pursuing.

The actual settlement is even more interesting lol https://ncaaorg.s3.amazonaws.com/ncaa/legal/NCAALEG_Settlement-July2024.pdf

https://ncaaorg.s3.amazonaws.com/governance/d1/legislation/2024-25/Dec2024D1Gov_PhaseTwoInstSetQuestionandAnswer.pdf Think of it more like pay to play rather than revenue sharing. The money can come from anywhere. Increasing scholarships can count as "revenue sharing". It could be "subsidy sharing" if a school chooses.

NCAA's Updated Question and Answer: Impact of the Proposed Settlement on Division I Institutions
-
Agreed. Also, if a school shares revenue for one sport, all sports effectively are opted in and must follow the roster limits. Basically, NDSU either has to choose to not pay out any additional money or they have to massively reduce the roster size (by like 24). With UND already being near 105, UND would potentially have more flexibility, especially if hockey ends up sharing revenue, because they could potentially decide to pay a few difference makers with less of a negative tradeoff from the application of a reduced FB roster limit.
-
Curious to see how the House settlement will affect player rosters in the FCS. NDSU has near 130 on their roster and UND is pretty close to 105 which will be the new ncaa limit. If NDSU decides to offer additional scholarships or if they decide to distribute NIL money directly, they will have to reduce their roster to 105. If UND does that, they are already near the 105 limit with the current number of walk ons. In 22-23, SDSU also had more participants, at 116. UND was 108. I think the huge difference in walkons has been one of the reasons NDSU has had so much depth, is always able to reload so easily, and it's also a reason they have had so much late season success relative to UND which has historically gotten worse at the end of most seasons. This will be something to watch moving forward imo.

"The majority of the games to air on Gray’s stations will take place on Saturday nights starting in January and will be announced at a later date. "

Gray Media will be televising select NCHC games throughout the country. Pretty cool. https://nchchockey.com/news/2024/12/6/mens-ice-hockey-nchc-and-gray-media-team-up-to-bring-select-games-over-the-air-to-viewers-across-the-country.aspx https://nchchockey.com/documents/2024/12/5//NCHC_Denver_CC_121324_Clearance.pdf
