Sorry to pi$$ on YOUR parade, but your "geography trumps everything else" doctrine doesn't hold water.

Really? Schmidt is doing great on the recruiting front for FB. Softball is winning at a pace I have never seen before. That new on-campus home field is paying off nicely. Hockey is rejuvenated after just one year of new leadership. The basketball programs are struggling because of poor coaching hires, a lack of thoroughness in coaching searches and a complete lack of standards and expectations from the AD's office. Volleyball just hired a new coach, so the jury is still out on that. But that program is currently in the sewer for the same reasons I outlined above for both basketball programs. Our new facilities are top notch and are already helping us recruit top notch student-athletes. We've just been lacking proper leadership in the AD's office. Which has nothing to do with geography or climate.

I honestly haven't paid much attention to this award since 2001. And before someone says something, I was happy for Ryan Duncan winning it in 2007. But I'm sure he would trade that in for a natty in a heartbeat.

2025-26 University of North Dakota Hockey Season

Well, that's why you want depth in a contact sport like hockey. -
The only thing they are going to "compete" for is the #1 overall pick in the next MLB draft.

If it was that easy to win there, Motzko would have won more than he did.
-
He likes hunting and fishing. And time with the grandkids.
-
I don't think he wants to cancel his retirement schedule for that.
-
From Sports Illustrated: https://www.si.com/college/minnesota/gophers-hockey/bob-motzko-reportedly-out-as-gophers-head-coach-after-8-seasons I was hoping they would extend him!
-
First they have to fire Motzko.
-
Just as critical is how Hak would deal with NIL and the Transfer Portal. Those things weren't around when he was here.

Gotta love the 1980's.

I wasn't implying that. I just think if a coach proclaims his team as a "family", people are going to hold him to that. And there are certain lines you never cross with your players. A parent is claiming that is what's happening behind closed doors. Whether or not he is doing that is what we are debating here.
-
To be fair, Sutter is the one that introduced the concept of the team being a "family".
-
No, we needed the week off. We need to flush out whatever virus is running through the locker room and heal up any nagging injuries. We have to get as close as possible to 100% to have a chance at winning four games.

You can like him and still root against the team he coaches.

So we're back to the imaginary warm front again? Brookings is a much smaller town that has two major employers (SDSU and Daktronics) and not much else. And it's not that much warmer than the North Dakota schools, certainly not enough to get a recruit to pick the Bunnies instead. All the Dakota schools are in flat, cold climates with long, dark winters. There's nothing anyone can do about it, so you have to focus on your strengths and things you can control.

NCHC > B1G

This isn't an academics vs. athletics vs. research issue. I believe we can be great in all three. False choices will only hold us back from our full potential as an institution.
-
You are correct, we were staring into an abyss exactly one year ago. I just think people are anxious to get back to winning at a high level in March and April.

Denver has three titles in the past eight years (not counting the COVID year in 2020). So I guess they didn't get the Parity Memo? 🤔
-
That is the attitude I am adopting on this issue: Whomever we have to play is who we'll have to beat. I think the past decade of ineptitude has given our fan base serious insecurity issues.
-
I believe that was in 2004.

That's putting your money where your mouth is! Kudos to you sir.

That's almost 5 years ago!
