  1. No, No, No, No!!! I don't care what other schools do. I care what MY school does. And "Green and White" is not an option.....EVER! PERIOD! I told people back in 2012 when Wayne Nelson and company started using "Green and White" as a substitute for "Fighting Sioux" that this would happen. It has gotten stuck in some people's heads because of the Heraldo and other media outlets. Having said all that, this won't happen. UND isn't going to have this long, drawn out process and then pick something so bland, generic and non-descriptive as "Green and White". They could do that without a "process" and they clearly have decided not to take that course.
  2. Wow, I think that's a first!
  3. Hey, not all of us are "hockey-only" fans. In fact, the "hockey-only" contingent is one of the biggest problems at UND right now, amongst others.
  4. What women's sports are there that we could add that we don't have right now? Maybe someone can chime in on that?
  5. Two words: Title Nine And most collegiate athletic programs are money losers, not just women's hockey. If making money is a requirement, you wouldn't have more than two or three sponsored sports in NCAA athletics.
  6. But UND can't afford it. Okay, whatever. And to answer the question before it is asked by the usual critics, yes, I would contribute something to a fundraising campaign to pay for the board(s). But I don't know of any such campaign as of today.
  7. IALTO
  8. That is a distinct possibility.
  9. This country's problems are the result of big business and corporations wanting more and more and more of everything; and at the same time refusing to help pay for anything. So the burden falls on the rest of us who can't hide our income in off-shore tax shelters and slip thru tax loopholes. It's easy to blame immigrants (who have little or no power or influence) instead of targeting the real culprits (who unfortunately have lots of power and influence and know how to use it). But hey, scapegoating is an old American tradition, isn't it?
  10. It used to be a lot easier to get a job as an immigrant (I am talking 19th into the early 20th century). And I don't know if I would call assistance by a private, non-profit charity a "handout". If you want to see a real example of "handouts", just look at a corporate balance sheet; lots of tax breaks and other goodies on there.
  11. America has always been a place that accepts people fleeing war, persecution, genocide, etc. If we don't want to hold to that, we should change the inscription on the Statue of Liberty to say "We got ours, go back where you came from".
  12. Well, then I guess we better go into the burrows of New York City where many different languages are spoken every day and start cracking some heads. And make sure they are practicing some sect of Christianity, because you are surely not an American if you don't. Yep, that would solve all our problems.
  13. Sometimes it's obvious in the tone and content of their remarks. And sometimes it is not so obvious. But I do think the good posters outnumber the bad posters by a solid margin.
  14. Don't feed the trolls; that is why they post stuff like this.
  15. After one terrible game? No way. Getting to the top of the league will take more time, with Minnesota and Wisconsin being who they are. I think 3rd place in the WCHA this year would be appropriate.
  16. Agreed. gfhockey adds a different dimension to the forum. And the more variety of people on here, the better.
  17. I watched Team USA beat Team Canada in Fargo in 2009 in the semifinal game. Had to drive through floodwater on I-29 in the process.
  18. I said it seems to be standard operating procedure to me; I never said I was 100% right. And I gave you a specific example. Same thing with the student hockey tickets; Kupchella reportedly mentioned to a season-ticket holder in an e-mail that the last resort to bad student behavior would be to abolish the student section (I really wish I had saved the source or wrote down where I saw it). Sometimes these things end up being true, sometimes not. I simply believe in keeping one's ears and eyes open for nuggets of information that don't show up in the official press releases.
  19. The first message I wrote is how they achieve the goal I described in the second message. They set up a logical explanation to give to the public in advance so that when the decision is made, there isn't as much backlash. It's PR 101 and all large organizations (public and private) practice it all the time. That is why I am so adamant about not always accepting every "official" statement at face value. Often times, there is more than meets the eye.
  20. I heard some talk back during the (mercifully short) Buning regime that Hyslop may have outlived it's usefulness because The Betty had taken over housing several programs (VB, MBB, WBB), along with some talk about all the asbestos that would need to be removed if they renovated it. That is code for "tear it down". And that would be a big mistake; it's a perfectly good building.
  21. Be careful, you'll be accused of not being grateful for Ralph's gift and not just accepting at face value everything you are told. Seriously though, I have asked the same question myself.
  22. I love the idea. But the standard operating procedure on this campus is to tear old buildings down and start over from scratch. Personally, I think tearing down a solid structure like Hyslop would be a big mistake. Putting basketball back in there would be awesome provided they modernized it first.
  23. The world price for crude oil fluctuates from day to day and week to week based on world events. But that doesn't prove the existence of a "free market". The fact remains that a small number of big oil conglomerates control the world's oil supply. The biggest problem with oil prices is all that "future's market" speculation on prices. Do these big-shots have some special power to predict the future? No, they just "guess" what will happen in the future. And in the long run, it always favors Big Oil over everybody and everything else. Why do you think we put up with Saudi Arabia's horrible human rights record, but slap big sanctions on Iran when there is little or no difference between the two? The answer is spelled O-I-L. Even drilling more at home won't change that. And I don't feel sorry for them over all the "expenses" they are forced to absorb. If you can't make money selling a commodity that the whole world needs almost as much as food and water, then you have no one else to blame but yourself. The only "free market" I know of is in the retail grocery business. That is as cutthroat as it gets. That is why the Sunday paper is loaded with grocery store ads. But most of the rest of our economy is controlled by big corporations and big businesses who are big enough to shield themselves from market forces that small to medium-sized businesses have to contend with day after day. Big Oil falls into that category.
  24. That means Cub fans are gluttons for punishment. When Wrigley Field is a bigger draw than winning, that tells you why they haven't won a title in over 100 years. If George Steinbrenner was still alive and owned the Cubs, he would spend what it takes to win. But if Cub fans don't care, why should we?
