  1. If the Slummit is such a great conference, why are Slummit schools constantly looking for different conferences to jump to?
  2. Because that is where the jobs they want are. That doesn't mean UND will have a big problem beating NDSU for FB, MBB and WBB recruits. If that was the case, we would always suck and that hasn't been the track record.
  3. I am not blaming the hockey program itself, I am blaming UND's administration and athletic department for only caring about hockey and putting all non-hockey sports on the back-burner when it comes to allocating resources, marketing and so on. I am proud of our hockey program and I am a season ticket holder in REA. But I am also a season ticket holder for FB in the Alerus Center and if Bubba gets treated like a red-headed stepchild like Lennon was, he will struggle to take the program where he wants to take it. That is what I was criticizing.
  4. I am not blaming NDSU for bettering themselves, I am simply pointing out that our mediocrity combined with their success will make our task that much harder. It is our own fault, I get that. But comparing UND to NDSU is as good of an apples to apples comparison as there is. If you have a better one, please share it with us. And I agree with you on your last point; it is time the fan base and the administration (Faison, I am talking to you) stop putting up with this mediocrity (which started with our crappy transition) and start demanding the excellence we used to experience around here. I have been ranting about that for a couple of years and all I get from the "ducky and bunny" crowd on here is static.
  5. Beat it troll, don't you have a Scott Miller costume party to go to?
  6. It isn't luck, it's having an athletic department and an administration that values and demands excellence in whatever sport they have chosen to sponsor. The sort of mediocrity with our MBB team would not be tolerated at NDSU. Triple the intolerance level for FB. Craig Bohl would probably have lost his job if he didn't pull off the quick turnaround after the 3-8 debacle in 2009. In Grand Forks, he would have gotten a contract extension and way too much rope to hang himself and the program with. This hockey-only attitude might have worked in Division II, but it simply will not cut it in Division I. If Bubba doesn't get what he needs in the next couple of years, if Brewster doesn't get what he needs in the next couple of years, if Jones is allowed to continue burying the MBB program in mediocrity, this sorry state of affairs will continue, if not get worse. As Scott Miller would say, "My oh My!"
  7. Just keep making smart remarks, it makes you look anything but.
  8. Last time I checked, NDSU gets a lot of their linemen (both offensive and defensive) for their four-time defending FCS championship FB team from the upper Midwest (North Dakota, Minnesota). And the fact that we are not competing for the same basketball players should bother you if you look at their success and our continued mediocrity and increasing irrelevance.
  9. If you really think NDSU's success, coupled with our mediocrity (not to mention an apathetic attitude towards that mediocrity) isn't a problem, then you are simply not paying attention. But if you want to continue believing that, go right on ahead. At least you will sleep well.
  10. It isn't about where they are based, it's the state and region-wide reach they have. KVLY is the NBC affiliate for the entire eastern third of North Dakota, KFGO has a strong signal that carries well into Minnesota, South Dakota and even the southern prairie provinces of Canada. WDAY is a shell of what they used to be, but they still have some pull in North Dakota media circles, especially since they are owned by Forum Communications, which owns a lot of newspapers across the region. Minneapolis-St. Paul is 300 miles away and in a totally different media universe with professional teams sucking up a lot of media attention. Meanwhile, Imperial Cass-Clay County is just 80 miles away, has no major league professional sports teams and thus can focus all their resources on NDSU. So that is apples and oranges right there. Nice try, please play again.
  11. Agree with you on this assessment. This is a nice answer to anyone that claims there is absolutely, positively nobody else in the whole wide world that could lead UND Men's Hockey to greatness but Dave Hakstol. If Hakstol was to ever leave for an NHL coaching job or something similar (Team Canada?), I think Palmiscno would definitely get some consideration with the job he has done in EGF (especially this year).
  12. You must really suck at chess because you are not seeing the whole board. Every time NDSU does something like this, ESPN starts slobbering over them (again). The in-state media machine they have built [KFGO and the insufferable Scott "My Oh My" Miller, WDAY (UND's so-called "flagship" station) and KVLY (still annoying even without Jamal Spencer's insufferable brownnosing of NDSU)] will be kicked into overdrive (again). And every causal sports fan and potential future basketball/football prospect will be watching all this and will probably forget that UND is even classified as Division I in all sports. So yes, to answer your sarcastic, smarmy little comment, we are worse off because NDSU won tonight.
  13. Perhaps we need a KnightRiders boys team as well? That would really stick it to Imperial Cass County and their pipe dreams of hockey "dominance".
  14. Careful or you'll be told that it doesn't matter what NDSU does or doesn't do and that it is totally irrelevant to UND because they are in a different conference. Seriously, I agree with you. The more the Thundering Turds win, the harder it will be for our program to gain any sort of traction.
  15. I'll believe the Twins are improved when I see it. If they are still around .500 at the All-Star break, then I will consider it a step in the right direction. But until that happens, it will be the same tired old crap from this franchise.
  16. Very high, but also very hard to measure. Which is how mediocre coaches like Jones keep their jobs for any appreciable length of time.
  17. What was that saying about rocks and glass houses..... Your schtick got old a long time ago.
  18. This was Tom Buning's asinine criteria that led us to Jones. So the problems with the program started with him.
  19. Oh, I'm the problem here!?!? Shooting the messenger is not going to help us. And I don't need a message board to tell you that this is a mediocre program on the fast track to nowhere. Their won-loss record says that.
  20. If that is the case, then it's the Athletic Department that needs a good housecleaning, not this forum. Mediocrity is accepted as "just the way things are" around here and I am sick and tired of it. I honestly am still surprised they replaced Mussman with Bubba, happy that they did, but still surprised. Look for Jones to finish out his contract and then move on, with attendance dropping below 1,000 per game on average. I hope Jones proves me wrong, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it.
  21. What I find funny is that Grafton-Park River, with their relatively small enrollment for a high school with a hockey program, has a total of 5 state championships, while "the best high school in North Dakota" has just 3 state titles. And now with Davies sucking up at least half (if not more) of the available talent on Fargo's southend, "the best high school in North Dakota" is a shell of its former self. There is justice in the world after all!
  22. The problem is that whenever someone wants to change the boundary lines, Red River hockey parents start complaining loudly and the issue is tabled for a few years. Then we rinse and repeat. If we don't change the lines soon, we will have overcrowding at Red River and lots of unused space at Central. Time for the Board to suck it up and change the boundaries and let the detractors complain all they want.
  23. If Fargo gets to have the Dakota Bowl every year from now on, then Grand Forks should have the hockey tournament every year from now on. Let Minot and Bismarck rotate the Class B Boys and Girls Basketball Tournaments and let Fargo and Grand Forks rotate the Class A Boys and Girls Tournaments. And I am sick of hearing that REA is just too busy to have the state tournament there anymore. That is like the Fargodome saying they are too busy to host the Dakota Bowl anymore. Schedules are made years in advance; figure it out.
  24. This is a troll post. Please ignore and it will die like it should.
