When are you not?

You guys get in all your cheap shots and smart remarks while you can. Today, we took the first step toward taking back the State of North Dakota and the Upper Midwest. And when Bubba is finished building his football empire, you and the rest of your fan base (along with Scott "My Oh My" Miller and his perpetually smiling mug) will be left in the dust and living in the past, just like in the 1990's.

SIU didn't bring in Lennon six years ago to have winning seasons. They brought him in to build a championship-contending program. And they have not reached that level. I really don't think Bubba will load the roster with JUCO/FBS transfers. Bubba is going to focus on the long-term health of the program; not short-change the future for a couple of extra wins in the present.

And if they had done that, they likely wouldn't have won the tournaments he was a part of. Come to think of it, I almost wish they had blacklisted him.

And look how much SIU is struggling to get over the hump to become a perennial FCS playoff team. That is why they brought Lennon in six years ago and it hasn't happened like most of us expected. Bottom line: I don't think a team filled with JUCO and FBS transfers has the same chemistry and goal-oriented focus as a team made up of 4 and 5 year players recruited out of high school. How many JUCO/FBS transfers are on NDSU's team this year or the previous two years?

But we are going to relentlessly chase it, because in the process we will catch excellence. I am not remotely interested in just being good.” ~ Vince Lombardi This must become the motto for all our programs, but it is especially applicable to football as Bubba begins the difficult task of rebuilding this program.

Have to somewhat disagree with both of these comments. Women's hockey has a tremendous upside and might very well hang an NCAA banner before the Men's team hangs #8. Right now I would rank them as: 1) Men's Hockey 2) Football 3) Women's Hockey 4) Volleyball 5) (tie) Men's and Women's Basketball

Let's be fair about this; gfhockey DID predict that Bubba would get the job. He isn't always right, but he was right about this.

1. I did not dispute this point. 2. I never said we would get a highly-paid FBS coach. 3. You were responding to a poster's comment that Bubba had better be able to build this program into a top-notch FCS program (NOT that it was one now) and you called him "delusional". You are the one that needs to comment on what was said, not what you implied.

Great attitude you are expressing here.......not. This is the type of small-time, pessimistic, defeatist thinking that has infected part of the fan base of our teams in recent years and it must stop now. It is not "delusional" to think we can build a top-notch FCS program. It is not "delusional" to expect excellence at the #2 sport on campus. And it is absolutely unacceptable to be satisfied with 5-6, 6-5 seasons (with a couple of 7-4 seasons thrown in) as the best we can do. Either go big or go home. If Bubba can produce positive results and start getting our program back to what it once was, Faison will likely reward him with a contract extension worth a lot more than his original contract. This is a step-by-step process and Faison is not putting the cart before the horse. I think Bubba will turn out just fine. We as a fan base must remain positive and supportive in this new era of UND football that was launched today. Otherwise, it was a big waste of time and money moving up to Division I in the first place.

That would be awesome. However (there always seems to be one of those, eh?), we need someplace to land first.

Considering that some of our hockey fans haven't cared about winning nattys for years, this isn't all that far from the truth.

I hope you are being hyperbolic on purpose, because not being able to host playoff games in FB would be a huge turnoff for recruits and coaches. How many FCS titles would NDSU have if they were barred from hosting playoff games?

.....and no conference home in the Big Sky. .....and a whole list of schools that won't play us. .....and no home FB playoff games EVER. .....and no hockey regional in Fargo. .....and, well, I think you get the point.

Once we get a new coaching staff in place and they can weed out any bad apples on the roster and start rebuilding the team in their image, then I think we'll be able to put this difficult time behind us. But it will take a couple of years to see progress; I hope people are patient with the new staff.

Well, for what it's worth, the press conference announcing Ralph Engelstad's $100 million gift was on the Friday of finals week in December 1998. I also recall a snowstorm that afternoon and evening. So if it's good enough for that, it's good enough for this. I really hope it's Friday and not Monday.

I share your frustration. But I think it is premature to declare the coaching search a failure. If Faison makes the right choice, in 5 years no one is going to care about how he did it. Let's just wait and see what happens. I am comfortable with Faison being in charge of this process.
