Now I really want the Men to win Gold.

The prevent defense prevents you from winning. Fortune favors the bold.

Now we can look forward to photos of their smiling faces with half their teeth missing drinking beer in the middle of the ice. This really sucks!!!!!

Library to lose half million dollars in funding

Eventually this will hurt enrollment. Jacking up tuition and then telling those same students to tighten their belts is just encouraging students to transfer or just not come to UND in the first place. Something has to change or the institution that has been a big part of my life for over 20 years will decline in quality. -
I think they'll be cornerstones for our next TWO Olympic teams (2018 and 2022). The experience, character and leadership they will provide for the younger kids will more than compensate for their advanced age.

It's all luck.....c'mon Irish, haven't you learned that yet?

I am sick and tired of this example being used; it's pure apples and oranges. Jerry York took over a putrid Boston College program and had to rebuild it while competing with the likes of Maine and BU for talent. Of course it took him a long time to get to the level he is right now. They are the team of the 2000's. Dave Hakstol took over a program with basically a full cupboard and has underachieved with it. Just like Doug Woog did with the Goofs back in the 1980's thru the mid 1990's. Face the facts.....Hakstol hasn't gotten the job done. With all this "parity", how has Boston College won four titles since 2001 (about one every three years)? And shouldn't all that "parity" give us just as much chance to win a natty as anyone else? But Haktsol's teams have underachieved in the NCAA tournament (especially at the Frozen Four) and it is just getting old. With FU winning 3 consecutive FCS football titles, we need to do something to change the narrative around here. Winning #8 would do just that and it would have a positive impact on the campus as a whole. That is another angle that is not talked about enough.

The State of North Dakota has money coming out of every orifice.....and the Chester Fritz Library has to tighten its belt? This isn't the 1980's, times are not tough and libraries are one of the bedrocks of any college or university. I guess Al Carlson is "Clueless" on more than just the Sioux nickname situation. -
The more important question isn't "What's it going to take to hang #8?", it's "How many people really care anymore?".

I support either Grand Forks team vs. out-of-town teams (especially GPR and Fargo South). If it's Central-Red River, I go with Central. -
I agree with you. Sweden was Sports Illustrated's pick to win Gold, Finland is playing well (as is the United States). Canada has seemingly struggled against teams they shouldn't struggle against. But when the North American behemoths clash, anything can happen.

Okay, that is fair.

Considering how shaky Canada has looked and how solid the U.S. has looked, it is a distinct possibility. But the history between these rivals indicates another close, hard-fought game.

It's one of the Baltic states (along with Estonia and Lithuania) that declared independence from the Soviet Union before anyone else did. But I agree with you; all that matters is beating Canada so we can listen to all their whining and complaining afterwards!

I know he was a pain in the butt for us to deal with in college.

I think the number is 41 for Central and Red River combined! -
Brock who? Says anybody outside the Imperial Cass-Clay County Megalopolis. Oshie, on the other hand, is now a household name in the United States. Any questions?

I never said this. I just challenged Mr. jdub27 to point out something that I said that wasn't accurate and that isn't relevant to the topic at hand. Btw, I agree with you on your second sentence, I would like to talk about a title defense instead of our almost 14 year drought.

It's the job of the coaching staff to get the team ready for a big stage like the Frozen Four. Otherwise there is no point in paying them what we pay them. And any team good enough to get there shouldn't flame out like that over and over again.

Yawn.....where have I heard those talking points before? Oh yeah, right here. You cannot refute the points I made, so you resort to the same tired old talking points. To each their own.

First of all, nobody expects an NCAA title every year. This isn't the 1950's when Michigan was heads and shoulders above everyone else and we still used chicken wire instead of plexiglass. We won NCAA titles in 1997 and 2000, but fell short in 1998 and 1999 with loaded teams. But the bookend NCAA titles made the middle two years easier to live with. The point being, we cashed in at least a couple of times when we had the talent to do so. That has not been the case during the current regime; especially with some of the talent that has come through Grand Forks during the past 10 years. When this program regularly chokes on the national stage, plays down to the level of their competition and had a coach that simply will not make in-game adjustments when needed, people are going to talk about it. As they should. Second of all, most people in Ann Arbor care about two things: 1) Michigan FB in their precious "Big House" and 2) Michigan Men's BB and their quest to return to the glory days of the Fab Five. Hockey ranks a distant third, which means old Red has more wiggle room than coaches in places like North Dakota, where REA is the "Big House" and hockey brings in the most money for the athletic department and the most media attention to the campus as a whole. And, although it's been a long time since his last one, Red does have two NCAA titles. Not as many as you would expect, but he does have them. Hakstol has ZERO. That is an irrefutable fact. Third of all, this discussion is about what kind of program we want to have in Grand Forks. Do we want to just "be there" every year? Do we want to just have winning records every year? Or do we want to be feared and respected like Boston College is today? I am a Vikings fan and I hate the Packers, but this quote from the great Vince Lombardi is pertinent to our discussion: “Gentlemen, we will chase perfection, and we will chase it relentlessly, knowing all the while we can never attain it. But along the way, we shall catch excellence.” To paraphrase the legendary NFL coach, "Gentlemen, NCAA titles are the mark of excellence in NCAA hockey". It is all that people really remember and it is what builds a legacy for future kids to aspire to. If we aren't willing to live up to this standard, then we might as well start hanging participation banners. So, to sum up, the "In Hak We Trust" crowd need to just put things in perspective.
