I think this whole obsession with 1pm games started with Dale Lennon. I heard him say he doesn't like night games, so that is probably why they stopped doing them. The first year in the Alerus Center (2001), we had night games until hockey started and they were very well attended. I think we should definitely go back to that. PS: At least we don't have those infernal 11:00am kickoffs they have at Minnesota. I honestly don't understand what television has to do with that. A lot of programs don't do that.

It is a fair question to ask; why would a bunch of Imperial Cass County and/or NDSU people care about what UND does or doesn't do with the nickname and logo? I don't put much past NDSU when it comes to trying to harm UND. The little Ag School is worried that we'll resolve this issue and turn our focus back to what it should be: education, research and athletics. Too bad for them they have little or no control over this.

I think the transition to college hockey is easier for forwards. Most goaltenders need to adjust to the speed and pace of the game as well. I think defensemen probably have the toughest transition out of all of them.
-
I think Roger Thomas once said that you don't want to lead your league in pass defense...because that means you are giving up yards on the ground.
-
According to UND officials, the results of the vote are supposed to be binding. Kelley will have to come up with one whopper of an excuse to override that after the fact.
-
It is much easier to replace forwards than it is goaltenders or even defensemen.

If Zane had come back for his senior season, this team wouldn't have any major question marks. If we can solve that one, we are in good shape.

To be honest, I always felt Hakstol was a better fit for the NHL rather than the NCAA. And if they give him enough talent to work with, he'll do just fine. But that is always the rub, isn't it? Hakstol could get fired for mistakes made by the front office. Often times, in the NHL, you are hired to be fired.

I guess that was one of Mussman's problems, he didn't recruit the right kids. He focused too much on out-of-staters and the almighty Tale of the Tape. There wasn't enough focus on character, work ethic, attitude, etc. That is just one area where Bubba is light years ahead of Mussman.

Now, come on, don't be bringing facts into the discussion. Seriously, no one can predict where this team will end up in March and (hopefully) April. We will go as far as our goaltending takes us.
-
The 2011 team also had one of the softest schedules in program history. I don't think that team wins at Portland State last weekend.

Welcome to the Greater Grand Forks community. I have lived here for 38 of my 41 years and I think you will grow to love it.

What is your major malfunction son? This whole fiasco has affected the student-athletes more than it will ever affect any of us. I suppose you think YOUR opinion is more important than this young man's. Guess again.....it is not. If anyone is whining here, it is YOU. So stick a sock in it.

Okay, that is fair enough.

This program is really not that far away from being a national contender. Just win those non-conference games and they'll be there.
-
I wasn't really talking about student attitudes; I was referring to what the athletic department and, just as importantly, the Office of President thinks our goals and expectations should be. And unless you are working to be a national title contender in FCS and an annual contender to make the NCAA basketball tournament in both men's and women's basketball, then you are a mid-major Division I school for all the wrong reasons. And I didn't leave hockey out on purpose; those programs already have those expectations ingrained into their cultures. Winning solves a lot of problems, so we just need to sit back and be patient.
-
NO to Nodaks and NO to Sundogs. Any of the other options I could live with.
-
Those should be our expectations regardless of what the Ag College does or doesn't do.
-
We must remember that this generation of students knows only losing and losing badly. They have no concept of a UND football program as a national contender playing and beating good teams at home. It will come with time.
-
Well, they did have two big-time concerts this past summer (The Eagles and Def Leppard). But yes, they need to start treating UND football better.

My point was Ira is clearly not able to be objective about a position battle if one of the candidates is from Detroit Lakes. That has been a pattern I have noticed over the years, I just haven't commented on it until now. Otherwise, I think Ira brings a good perspective on the program that the rest of us cannot provide. I guess I am just sick of people acting like we are 0-5 and struggling instead of 4-1 and improving day by day, week by week. Let's just roll with the punches (good and bad) and enjoy the ride. I actually like the process of building a program as I do the results when the pieces are in place for a title run.

Go start your own thread so you can slobber over Minnehaha Dix some more.

It is a fact that certain posters on this forum defend certain players from certain towns all the time, whether it is warranted or not.

And I also remember Chris Bellmore rallying us from behind against GVSU at home in the 2004 Division II playoff quarterfinals with two touchdown drives. Both Bellmore and Manke were good, solid (but not great) QBs who were more than good enough to win us games with the kind of defenses we had back then. Which is what Bubba wants us to get back to. And I think we are on our way to doing that. People need to stop acting like we are 0-5 and at least try to enjoy the success we have had so far this year. This is a process and it won't happen overnight. The wait will be well worth it.
