  1. Real books will never completely go away, at least not in our lifetimes. And 50% more space is reasonable considering Grand Forks is much larger than it was when the current building was built. And they likely will put in more computers and more technology, which will cost money, but is needed to make the library as useful as possible. You are 100% right about parking and the impracticality of a downtown location. The midtown location is the only one that makes sense for everybody.
  2. If 95% of it ends up being advertising, then I think the businesses that advertise there should have to pay for 95% of the cost of putting it up.
  3. The overall number of people that use it has grown and grown. You can't find parking half the time and when it is busy, it is quite crowded in there. There is a false perception that nobody uses the library anymore; it simply isn't true.
  4. You would be surprised at the number of people that use the library for their internet access. Not everyone has high-speed internet or a smartphone. Go into the G.F. Public Library sometime; the computers are usually packed with people. That is what a new library would focus on; online and electronic resources. And those things are lacking at the current library and would be expensive to put in vs. building a new facility. Even the Harley E. French Health Sciences Library on campus is going to get rid of most of their paper copies and make digital access to journals available 24/7. The future of libraries will look much different from what it was even 10 years ago.
  5. I don't think we can accurately judge how they look or what they add to the game experience until we go to a game with the boards functioning.
  6. Nobody has disputed that and that is what should happen. Polls last time showed people were supportive of a new library, but all the confusion over where it should be built is what clouded the issue and made people reluctant to vote yes. This time, they are actually vetting locations. I think the midtown location near the Grand Cities Mall is the best place (plenty of parking, room to build). The current library site could then be sold to private interests.
  7. The first proposal back in 2011 was sunk by two major things: 1) Uncertainty over location and 2) A horrible marketing campaign (If I EVER hear about "The Hobbit" ever again, I will scream). At least this time, they are doing a thorough study on where to build it. And they are having public meetings where you can give your input or ask questions.
  8. I have often wondered just how many warheads were targeted at Grand Forks Air Force Base by the Soviets during the Cold War. Scary to think I grew up 15 miles east of a prime target for ICBMs.
  9. That definitely was a major twist of fate that told us maybe, just maybe, this time it would be different.
  10. That company is struggling right now. I don't think they will be expanding anytime soon.
  11. I've been soaking in the good vibes since April 9th!
  12. Was there any audible booing from the Gopher cry babies?
  13. Most of the people you listed are well-known right-wingers. Jordan is pretty apolitical, but I think the others are staunch conservatives. Just like Thomas. And how do we know if POTUS does or doesn't watch sports on Air Force 1 or in the White House private residence? I am sure POTUS does that whenever he gets the chance. He hates the bubble he has to live in more than most of us could ever imagine.
  14. This is what was wrong with it. This was supposed to be about the team, not about him getting his jock strap in a bunch over something totally unrelated to the game of hockey or winning the Stanley Cup. And nobody in the media held a gun to his head and told him to say that.
  15. Didn't we do that on April 9th, 2016 in Tampa, FL at around 10:00pm CT?
  16. Oh, I agree with you. Tim Thomas was being a classless tool for refusing to join his teammates at the White House a few years ago.
  17. But it's okay for Boston College to be at home every year for their regional? Yep, that is what I thought.
  18. Tim Thomas would disagree with you.
  19. So they can meet Hillary Clinton? (sorry buddy, but you started it!)
  20. Well, the 2000 team went to the White House, so anything is possible. I think Hoeven, Cramer and Heitkamp should work together and lobby the White House to get this done.
  21. I have noticed this as well. Someone should remind Nelson that this isn't the 1950's and baseball is not the #1 sport in America anymore. Cutting baseball is not in any way devastating to UND athletics. As for the closing comment (Is the Big Sky the right place for UND athletics?) he was implying that either a) UND drop back down to Division II or b) Figure out how to get into the Summit/MVFC. Neither of those things are going to happen. And neither of them should happen.
  22. Careful, there are members of the Ryan Miller fan club on this forum!
  23. Some other players that fit the title of this thread: Jeff Panzer Peter Armburst David Hoogsteen Matt Henderson Karl Goehring
  24. A Renaissance a lot of people have forgotten over time. We didn't always have a palace for our home games, every home game televised or first round NHL draft prospects drooling over our program year after year. 1994 was a critical tipping point in the history of this program and Curtis Murphy was one of the players that helped Blais turn the program around. I believe Murphy was one of Gino's recruits who committed before the coaching change and stuck around. I am very glad he did.
