  1. I watched Slap Shot 2 over the holidays. Not bad in the world of sequels.
  2. Some people think the WMU guy has been there too long. Others complain that Elliot hasn't been at one job long enough. Obviously, you can't have it both ways. So do we look for someone in the middle of the spectrum?
  3. Okay, that is fair.
  4. Assuming your point is correct, the next AD has to resist the temptation to give out multi-year contract extensions like candy. It backfired with Mussman and it is backfiring with Jones right now.
  5. My biggest problem with the characterization of private financing as "spending other people's money" is that nobody is forcing these people to write checks. They do it because they want to. If they don't want to fund something, they don't have to. The key word is "voluntary".
  6. Private fundraising is becoming the biggest funding source for intercollegiate athletics. How do you think the IPF was funded? The ND Legislature? I don't think so. If you are against raising private funds to pay for stuff like this, then you don't have a problem with me. You have a problem with the funding model for intercollegiate athletics in general. And this thread isn't about MBB, it's about the AD position. And whomever gets hired will have to ask for "other people's money" to help us reach our goals as an athletic department. I return everyone to their regularly scheduled speculating.
  7. Careful, you'll be accused of "spending other people's money".
  8. Maybe Mike M. can have that job?
  9. Calm down, it was a stupid joke. I am open to internal candidates for anything; I just don't think Mike is the right choice for this job compared to the other applicants.
  10. And how functional is that title?
  11. Well, at least he isn't promoting a candidate from Detroit Lakes!
  12. Very true. Geography makes it more doable in the east; not so much in the west.
  13. You make some very good points. However, do you have some "unsubstantiated bias" of your own on this issue?
  14. Mike isn't the best choice. I like the guy from WMU or EWU. Let Mike keep his current job.
  15. While I agree with your position that this hire is very important to the future of UND athletics, I do not think Mannausau is going to get the job. I think he is a token internal candidate who is there to satisfy the old guard. The guy from WMU sounded good. The guy from EWU sounds like a winner as well. I think it will be between those two.
  16. Please, let's not go down this road again.
  17. This is what I am thinking. If they go to BSU on Friday night and lose 1-0, then we are back to where we were before last night.
  18. I believe I said effort, NOT results.
  19. What we need right now is consistency. Tonight's effort needs to happen every night from now on.
  20. Good for him! I wish him all the best.
  21. I could have stopped some of those shots we took last night.
  22. They are doing what they did both nights vs. WMU. Now they need to figure out how to do this EVERY GAME from now on.
  23. As a season-ticket holder to both, I sure would like to see both programs contend for national titles at the same time.
  24. So if NDSU starts hockey, it's only a matter of time before UND's program starts to atrophy and fade away? LOL, you are on a roll tonight! The relationship between GF and Fargo is not analogous to the relationship between St. Cloud and MSP. But you are making it sound like that.
  25. So it's all about corporate $$$$$? I don't think so. Why did it take years to raise enough money for the BSA renovation? You make it sound like they can fund whatever they want out of their pocket. All the cash in the world won't make a difference if you don't make good decisions (when to move to D1; whom to hire). NDSU has made good decisions since moving up to D1. UND has wasted a lot of time and energy on the nickname fight and made a lot of bad hires (Buning, Mussman, Jones). And you make Fargo sound like Minneapolis. They are not. NDSU's athletic budget is a drop in the bucket compared to P5 and some of the larger G5 schools. Both schools are NDUS institutions. Both have state budget issues. And the enrollments are not all that different. Based on your hypothesis, we should just give up and go back to D2 and the NSIC.
