We are playing with house money at this point in the season. Just think how far this team has come since Thangsgiving! Heck, think how far this team has come since the Saturday lost to CC!! The team has been in a "win or go home" mentality for almost a month now. We won two games in the NCAA tournament that we were the underdogs. Now we are in the Frozen Four and will most likely have to go thru both Minnesota and BC to win the title. No one outside our fanbase is giving us a chance. So the boys can play loose. This is a very young team that was in a way in a rebuilding year. Now we have the chance to win it all. The pressure is not on us. It's on the other guys for once!! Given where this team was even 2 weeks ago, this team has to feel pretty good about how the end of this season is going. Now just need to finish it right by hoisting the hardware!!!

Blais v Hakstol. Lets look at the numbers in the 5 years Blais has been at Omaha and the last 5 years for Hakstol at UND. 2009 - 2014 Blais - 91-86-18, 0 National Championships, 0 Conference Championships, 0 Conference Tournament Championships, 1 NCAA Tournamanet appearance. Lost in the first round of the conference playoffs the other 4 years. Hakstol - 130-64-21, 0 National Championships, 1 Conference Championship, 3 Conference Tournament Championships, 5 NCAA Tournament appearances, 2 Frozen Fours. Won in the first round of the conference tournament each of the last 5 years. So please tell me again how much of a better coach Blais has been then Hak lately?

The real question is would you rather be a mediocre team that struggles to make the NCAA tournament year in and year out, has a couple of losing records, wins one tournament game every other year and then has 1 year where it wins a National Championship, or have a team that makes the tournament every year, has won multiple league and league tournament championships, has success in the National Tournament and has been to several Frozen Fours but doesn not have a National Championship? Hak has put this team in the posotion to win a National Championship year in and year out. UND hockey has been a model of consistency. Making the tournament every year and not only making it, but winning games. Hak ranks in the top 5 of NCAA coaches right now. You don't fire a guy like that.

If they are swithcing to schools hosting again, this idea wouldn't really be necessary. I don't think you would need an extra week for the Ralph to sell out a Regional that UND is the #! seed in. The problem with the week off isn't when the week off occurs, it is the fact that it even occurs. Kills any momentum and excitement created leading up to it.

It happens for conference tournaments all the time! This year in the NCHC the seedings for home ice for a few of the series wasn't decided till the last weekend. They figured that out. Not sure why it wouldn't work again. I think these venues can keep that first weekend open in the case that they get to host an NCAA regional. Keep the 1 and done scenerio. That's what makes the playoffs exciting.

This year's playoffs has been great so far. (Especially if you are a UND, Minnesota, Union, or Boston College fan). NCAA hockey playoffs are great every year it seems. Seems lately that every team has a shot to win 4 games and win it all. I love college hockey, especially the playoffs, but I think that it could be even better if they just tweeked a few things. These are certainly not new ideas, but I think that making these minor changes will increase the popularity of the sport and make the playoffs experience better for everyone involved. 1. Regional sites should be hosted by the #1 Seeds. There is nothing like a bunch of kids making the NCAA youtnament as a team for the first time, being told by their coach that this is the biggest game of their careers, and then skating out to 1500 fans in an empty arena. Obviously some sites get lucky when you have local teams in it (MN v St. Cloud at the X this year for example). But, there are just as many times where there are Regionals that are half full at best. It is odd that an organization that is all about making money (NC$$) that they wouldn't look at a way to increase attendance at these regionals to make more money!! This is certainly one of the hot topics in college hockey these days. Sure there are positives and negatives to both. One negative is it is much harder for a 4 seed to beat a 1 seed in their home rink. They have a much better shot on a nuetral site. I say, what is worng with that? These #1 seeds have earned that seed by playing consistantly good all season long. Shouldn't they be rewarded for that for giving them the best chance to get to the Frozen Four? Not only will it reward the #1 seeds, but attendace will be drastically better. Shoot, Hak even said he would much rather play at a teams home rink that is packed than a half empty arena thousands of miles from either school. I hope to see this change in the next few years. Given the fact they have only rewarded regionals for the next 2 years and not any further thinks that this may become arealty. 2. Frozen Four needs to be same weekend as the Final Four. After a crazy end to a regular season with conference titles on the line followed by conference championships with playoff spots on the line followed by the first weeked of the NCAA playoffs after that, seems odd to bring all that momentum and excitement to a schreeching halt for 11 days. I realize that they don't want to compete with the Final Four. But in a way, that can help them. I think having the Frozen Four on Friday and Sunday of the Fianl Four would keep fans engaged in the playoffs without that long layover. The NCAA Frozen Four would be advertised and talked about at the Final Four as well. Not sure if they will do this because money controls all and trying to compete with the Fianl Four the same weekend could be tough. But having it on seperate days might work. I am sure there are other suggestions to make the NCAA tournament better. But those are the big two in my opinion.

Congrats Minnesota. You get to lose to the eventual National Champions for the 3rd straight year. (2012-Boston College, 2013-Yale, and 2014-North Dakota).

My point is besides Jerry York, who are you gonna bring in here to replace a Hak that has even close to that kind of coaxing success. He puts our team in a place to succeed. Now the players have to step it up

8th Regional Final in Hak's 10 years as HC at UND. Name me another coach who has ever had a 10 year span of success like that. .765 winning percentage in Regional Play. Are you kidding me? Mods, can we please shut down any "fire Hak " thread for awhile!!

Judging by the fact that there is literally ZERO talk about the process of choosing a new nickname with 2015 looming, I am guessing that UND is fairly confident that the NCAA is not going to get in their business to much when we don't have a nickname in 9 months. With talk shakeup in FBS football on the horizon and the recent actions at Northwestern, they have bigger fish to fry,

We will have to wait and see. It's going to be very interesting how sales do of the new name and logo. Obviously it is going to be hard to get used to seeing "North Dakota" next to a different name other than Sioux at first. Fans may be hesitant at first. The selection of the name and logo are going to be vital in the popularity of it and that directly will affect merchandise sales. If they choose something that is boring and overused (Wildcats, Bulldogs, etc) it will will not create a lot of buzz because tis been done. I am hoping they can find a name that is unique and fits our state and University well. I know that true fans of The University of North Dakota athletics will support the new name. Just hope it's something I will be proud to wear on my chest and yell out at games!!

I have always like games that start at 3pm. Tailgating always seems to be better for those games since it is not so early in the morning. Students have sobbered up enough from the night before and will be less likely to leave at the half to head to the bars. Late games are great, except if you have littel kids and have to get them home to bed by halftime. I am cool with the 1pm games as well. Just as long as they don't do night games. Especially late in the season. Glad to see that they finally got rid of the Thursday game!!

Dumb arcticle. Timing of it make the Herald look like they are compensating for NDSU outperforming UND lately. Makes the Herlad look really childish. This thread is a joke, but not suprised it was started based on seeing who started it.
