Watching games now on TV, it is pretty obvious that fan interaction and excitement has been greatly reduced because of people tuning out and looking at their smart phones. And its not just students. Just really annoying to see fans that are there to watch the game mentally check out spend the entire game on their phone.

Check out the new Logo concepts by Gridiron Labs
Siouxperfan7 replied to GLABS's topic in UND Nickname
If your nickname is Tribe and you have a feather in your logo, then that's probably not gonna fly. But is the NCAA really going to come to UND after their logo comes out and say that their bird logo can't have feathers? As rediculous as it sounds, UND needs to nip tis in the bud and just ask for clarification. Seems stupid to have to ask if birds can have feathers....but hey, its the NCAA!!! -
Kind of contradicted yourself there in one sentence!!!

Some people are probably going to hate this suggestion, but Can the Alerus/Betty/Ralph use a hawk scream to initiate the crowd to get up and get loud? Play the hawk sound followed by a pump up song to get the crowd going. I am sure there are other schools that have been successful using their animal roar, screech, etc. Worth a try I think. Obviously with the Sioux logo we could not do that (not gonna do the tomahawk chop or anything like that). Now we have the opportunity to embrace the new logo and use it in our cheers. I say do it.

http://www.undsports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=210101296 So I guess they did tryouts last year. Wow. That was the best they could get? No offense, but they could do a lot better.

The PA announcer does play a pretty big role in creating the atmosphere. At any games. Obviously scoring, making big plays, and winning plays the main roll. But a PA announcer that helps fans engage in the game by encouraging fans to cheer, announcing scored and big plays enthusiastically, etc when done right, can be very effective. Last years PA guys was pretty brutal. Maybe the Alerus needs to hold open tryouts much like the Ralph did when they found Looker.

http://www.thespectrum.com/story/sports/2016/03/01/big-sky-could-idaho-footballs-future-after-leaving-sun-belt/81167778/ First I have heard about splitting the FCS conference and having an autobid for each!!

Don't forget personnel TV screens at every seat as well as free bottle service!!
-
I just don't know how the Alerus Center can consistently under perform in regards to gameday atmosphere. There are plenty of examples that they could look at that other schools do that they can earn from an adopt. Don't even have to go that far to see it. Go 70 miles south and see how the Fargodome does their gameday production. The production team at the Alerus has to be consistently researching and upgrading their in game production and looking to see what is working around the country at other Universities. If that is not happening, that would be extremely disappointing.

If only there was an arena that is within driving distance for 6 of the 8 NCHC schools that holds 10,000+ who hosts hockey in the building all the time!!!!
-
Being in a hockey only conference, the priority of the conference is pretty obvious. In the B1G, hockey is the 3rd most important priority, and it is treated that way. Looking at the state both leagues are currently in, I'll take take the NCHC or the B1G every day of the week and twice on Sunday! (Well, maybe not Thursdays ).
-
The Final 5 I think is scheduled thru 2017. Not sure when the B1G is. The NCHC needs to really make a strong bid to move the Final Faceoff to the X. Biggest question is do they want to relocate from the Target Center?

Wait.....Did Lucia say he didn't want it?!!

Wow. what an idiotic statement. There is no policy banning the use of "animals Native Americans deem to be sacred" by the NCAA. We are talking about specific native american imagery. The symbol of the Thunderbird that they used is one that is specifically tied to Native Americans. The designer even said that. Google "native american thunderbird" and you can see for yourself. You are really reaching here!! -

I'll take that bracket against those 3 chowda heads!!

So let's say St Cloud stumbles down the stretch here and drops down to a 2 seed and we stay as a 1 seed. Does the committee put UND, St Cloud, and Minnesota (if they make it) in the St Paul regional? Would be one heck of a regional!!!

Think of when the WJC was in Grand Forks. It was THE event going on. Not saying the Frozen Faceoff is as big as the WJC by any means, but if you had it in Sioux Falls, it would be a pretty big event for the city. In a city the size of Minneapolis, it kind of gets lost in the shuffle. Especially with a similar tournament being played across the river at the same time. I think the city of Sioux Falls would embrace the Frozen Faceoff and turn it into a pretty successful event. Especially considering it would be held at the brand new Stanford Center.

I guess it's not just the 3rd verse of "Hail the Bison" that is offensive!!
-
These guys are a little late to the party. Or were they on the list of companies that submitted a bid?
-
I don't care what type of fan you want to associate as being or are being labeled as. This concept really isn't that hard to understand. Booing the Fighting Hawks name is not good for the University and its Athletic programs. Don't boo the name of the school you cheer for. How hard is this to understand?!!!

ND State Tournament permanent location proposal: Hockey - Grand Forks Football - Fargo Class A Basketball - Bismarck Class B Basketball - Minot Every major city gets a major sport state championship. Everyone is happy.
-
Is the turf permanent in the HPC or can it be rolled up? I am assuming it can be. Just have never seen any pictures of the completed building without the turf. Just wondering.
-
Only thing worse than a "hockey only" fan is a "cheer for NDSU in the playoffs because it is good for the state" fan!!
-
Embracing the Fighting Hawks name does not make you less of a Sioux fan. It does not mean you agree with the NCAA and their position on NA nicknames. It does not mean that you are forgetting the history of UND had with the Sioux tribes. It does not mean you are trying to erase the history of the great Sioux Nation. It does not mean that you have to throw away all of your Sioux apparel and merchandise. It does not mean that you will like the name as much as the Fighting Sioux. What is does mean is you are choosing to accept the past and everything that has happened these last 10 plus years and recognize that the Fighting Sioux name is not going to be the nickname for UND ever again and that the Fighting Hawks name is here to stay. Like I said. It does not mean you have to forget the history and pride that went along with it. We all as UND fans don't need yet another thing to be fighting over. These past 10 years have been yough for everyone involved. Now that we have a name and soon to be logo, you annot argue that it is in the best interest to embrace the Fighting Hawks name and move forward.
