  1. Obviously 67% of people that voted to retire the name didn't want the name retired. There was no other option to keep the name. Scheduling issues, conference affiliation, ability ot host post season games, etc forced our hand. My point is that those that voted to retire name all believed it is what was best for UND and its athletic department. What did you think was going to happen when the name was retired? That UND would just be North Dakota and not have a new name? Did you think that any name picked would be as popular and well received as Fighting Sioux? Of course not. A new name that is not Fighting Sioux was going to be selected. You can't vote to retire the Sioux name because you think its best for the University one minute, and the next minute not accept a new name and refuse to accept it and revert back to the old name. Not how it works. We as UND fans need to recognize that the Fighting Hawks name is not going anywhere. It is going to be the identity of the University and it's athletic teams for years to come. Not aknowledging it and refusing to recognize it does not help the University. Do you think it does? I get it. Fighting Hawks is not ideal. But is is the hand we are dealt and we have to live with it. We have to choices now. Either we embrace the change and the new name, make it ours and own it, or we fight it and refuse to embrace it which will result in a divided fanbase of those clinging to the old name and those trying to adjust to the new one. And just a side not, you want to credit my credibility, so be it. But that is your opinion. I know where I stand as a person and as a life long UND supporter.
  2. You do realize how stupid our fanbase is going to look when half the fans are cheering "Let's go Sioux" in their Sioux gear and the other half is cheering "Let's go Hawks/Fighting Hawks" wearing their Fighting Hawks gear right?!! There is a large majority of people that wanted UND to retire the name. 67% of people that voted on the measure said that. Those that could read the writing on the wall realized that it was the best interest of the University to retire the Fighting Sioux nickname and adopt a new one. Just because now that we have a new nickname with a logo soon to follow that wasn't as good as you hoped for, that doesn't change the fact that adopting a new nickname and logo were what was best for the University moving forward.
  3. Never said you had to burn all your Sioux clothing. You can wear Sioux clothing. That's fine. I still own some. My point is those that absolutely refuse to refer to UND as the Fighting Hawks and won't ever by Fighting Hawks merchandise are in denial, and yes stubborn. Just because you wear Sioux clothing doesn't mean you are not accepting of the new name. But 5 years from now, if you are still wearing your Sioux jersey to a hockey game yelling "Go Sioux", you are being stubborn.
  4. "Proud Fighting Sioux Fans". The reason you are proud fans, is because the name of the school you support was the Fighting Sioux. If UND would have been known as the Fighting Hawks for 80 years, you would be "Proud Fighting Hawk" fans. My point is, the support you gave the Fighting Sioux name was because it was the name of the University of North Dakota athletic teams. I get it that Fighting Hawks is not even close to being as good as Fighting Sioux on many levels. But is is the nickname of the school in which you support. If you think not embracing a new name and logo and refusing to accept the new name and logo is supporting the University, its teams, and its student athletes, that's your opinion.
  5. By "most people" who are you referring to? With the exception of hockey games, the majority of people are not wearing Sioux gear. Sure there are some, but the majority are not. When a new logo is out and new merchandise is for sale, you will see the majority of fans wearing the new gear. Now the majority of people at hockey games may still wear Sioux gear, but that will change slowly over time. So while others are accepting the fact UND has a new nickname and logo, those that are stubborn will continue to wear the Sioux gear to games and not embrace the change and look foolish.
  6. While it may be the cool thing to do to rebel against the man and wear Sioux gear to games and around town after the new merchandise with the new logo is out...You are going to look rather foolish when the students, student athletes, and a whole bunch of other fans are wearing the new name and logo while you are still clinging to the past.
  7. I suppose now we have to determine the voting intention of the Fighting Hawk voters. Were they voting for a bird or something else? May need to have another runoff before a logo is picked!!
  8. "The Bison have to meet Title IX obligations, raise their fundraising substantially and fund an entire athletic budget that currently operates at around $20 million annually" Reasons why it will never happen.
  9. This is such a stupid argument. He has a prior commitment. Big deal!! Who cares!!! Man, hockey can't start up soon enough!! Getting rediculous around here!!!
  10. So...basically every Bison fan including the players then?!!
  11. If you agree to a home and home to Weber St., you should have no problem agreeing to a home and home against UND. Just sayin.
  12. Sorry, but the football helmets have had the interlocking ND on the helmets for decades. I don't see that changing with a new name. There was never a Sioux logo on them. I don't see there ever being a Hawks logo either.
  13. I was making a joke. Sorry you can't pick up on that. I like the logo. Unfortunately it has zero chance to be the logo as UND is hiring a firm to design the new logo. I do hope they can integrate aspects of the old logo to the new one.
  14. It's a good thing we picked such a popular name!! So many logo ideas to copy from!!
  15. Your old native american logo had feathers. This has feathers. Sorry, your new bird logo can't have any reference to feathers - NCAA logic
  16. #butgameday #butESPNloveus #butBig12invite
  17. Anything less than what NDSU football has accomplished will not garner any respect from Bison fans. UND could win an FCS NAtional Championship and the response of Bison fans would be "Win 3 (or maybe 4) more and get back to me!! Yes it's true, respect must be earned. but it will never be given by many Bison fans because of their pride.
  18. Didn't the pack lose to a crappy Lions team and home and it took a lucky penalty and a even more lucky pass and catch to beat them? Packers are good, but they aren't the best team in the NFC. Heck, they may not even be the best team in the NFC North!! We shall see come week 17!
  19. The Vikings are winning the games they are supposed to win (against bad teams) and are staying competitive(minus the Seattle game) in games they are losing. They are a good not great team. To be great, they need to start by winning next weekend and winning at Lambeau to win the division. That is the first step. Knock off a team that they aren't supposed to beat in the playoffs is next. Teddy made some huge strides yesterday. Now he just needs to be consistent. If he plays like he did the last 2 games in the next 2 games, get ready to hang the division banner and host a game in the playoffs!!
  20. Wow didn't think one comment could get people so much on the offensive!! Ok. Let me see if I can clarify. I am not saying that you should like the original Fightihg Hawks shirt that was posted. I am a fan of a lot if sports teams. And there is apparel I would never wear because it just isn't appealing to me. What I am talking about is people that are going to wearing their Sioux gear to games while the majority in the building (including the athletes) will be wearing Fighting Hawks apparel. I get it. Some people don't like the name. I didn't vote for it. I wanted something different. Heck, I was like everyone else who wanted the Sioux name to remain. But it's time to accept reality. He name is not going anywhere. My point is embracing it instead of fighting it is going to be better for everyone in the long run. Side note: my screen name is paying tribute to a group of my closest friends when we were in college who attended countless Sioux games together. We names out group the "Siouxperfans". One of the best times of my life. Still close friends with those guys today. So I am going to keep the name.
  21. All I want for Christmas is a Bison loss tonight!!!
  22. How bout "Come Fight with the Hawks".
  23. The athletes you are cheering for are Fighting Hawks. Very soon, none of the UND athletes will have ever played under the name Fighting Sioux. Their identity will be the Fighting Hawks. You can choose to support whatever you want. But as for me, I am going to cheer for the Fighting Hawks because that is the identity of the team, the players, and the school that is playing. It will change for you, like you said, eventually. Same goes for other fans. whether it is a day, a month, a year, or longer. but jsut remember that delaying the process isn't going to change the result. The sooner you accept the new name and eventual logo, the better off you will be. It is going to happen eventually. Might as well make the effort to make it sooner.
