I predict Glas will resign. I think he'll get another gig as an assistant coach somewhere....

Who is your favorite Sioux hockey player and why?

Whether we do or not, I'm not sure that fits the scope of this thread. -

Jim Dahl could close that thread in.... 5 posts. (To name that tune ) -
I agree, but I think Porter can score more than 15 goals. He's not going to be a Chris Collins. I dont' think he'll make the Hobey lists at all. I just think he can fill his role admirably from a leadership and role playing kind of way. Leading by example. Leave the flashiness and goal scoring to players like Oshie and Toews. That kind of stuff isn't Porter's role. It never was in any league. But yeah, crashing the net would be a HUGE upside for Chris. He did it a bit this year and I'd love to seem him continue to do it.

Homer!!! Don't have a single favorite player. I like all of the players... well.. most of the players. It would be easier for me to list the players I've watched that I didn't like because then I wouldn't have to list whole rosters. -
I dunno..... we'll probably need Piper, Slap Shot, or buckysieve to post here in order to help put that last nail in that coffin.

Toews looks better offensively than all but two forwards on the Wild and equal to one of them (Rolston). Sorry, but if Toews were to step on the ice with the Wild next season, he'd be first line with Gaborik and Rolston right away. Which means the Wild would finally have a legit scoring line. Then again, Lemaire would then bench Toews for spending too much time crashing the net rather than staying back guarding his man. Hell, with Toews' offensive talent, it probably doesn't fit Risenbrough's "system" anyhow.

I can see the BTHC as being very harmful to western hockey if you aren't a big time school. Even if we were to go DI in all sports, we'd still not be in the same league size wise as UMN, UW, Michigan, tOSU, etc. So, I don't see how UND would get an invite to join this conference. Then look at what would be left to form the other western conference: UAA UAF UNO UND MSUM UMD MTU LSSU WSU UAH (though they'd probably drop hockey altogether) SCSU WMU NMU Notre Dame BSU Splitting that group up, would either conference be seen as anything but a joke? It would KILL UND's PWR. And even then, we'd not be in half as much hot water as the eastern teams in the CHA (Niagara and RMU). I would hate to see what would happen to us if this were to come down.

Correct. Otherwise, I could just post my favorite rumor: If Kessel isn't signed by the team who drafts him right away, he's leaving Minnesota for Major Juniors. Anyone believe that one? I'm POSITIVE that I could get someone to believe it. I don't care who 8whatever8 is. If he doesn't attach a news link, or a verifiable media source that is reporting the news he states, IT JUST ISN'T TRUE. Period. By the way, before all you Gopher fans jump all over me, that rumor I found inside a cracker jack box. If it comes true, I'll probably die from a heart attack. In other words: I made it up.

You blow enough hot air and eventually something will spill out that you will agree with. If not one thing, another. Whether he's paid to say it or not, he still says it. I just think he spews more crap than gold.

Well, like the Cubs of MLB, the Wild's product and performance don't match up with the attendance. If the Wild didn't have such a strong fan base, they'd realize that the Wild consistently are mediocre and, hence, would stop coming until the Wild front office gives them a reason to come. Maybe it's still the newness of the Wild franchise? I don't know. We'll find out next season as the Wild becomes one of the few teams whose performance dropped in the past year but still found a way to raise ticket prices.

IMO (which isn't based on sources, hence why it is my opinion ), I think that's good news for Illinois. News for us is that we'll still be losing the appeal. I can't see how we could win it. We're the banner waving institution behind Brand's social change movement. They can't make Illinois, FSU, CMU, or Utah change their names. They bring in too much $$$ so Bradley and UND are the next biggest schools. We have to lose or Brand looks like an idiot. I don't think the NCAA would put Franklin or Brand out to dry. UND will lose their final appeal.

My question is will there will any debate at all or will they just move to vote and deny the appeal within 5 minutes of the item coming up on the agenda? My bet is that Kupchella won't have to wait long to get a phone call telling him that it has been denied on April 27th. And I'd be VERY surprised if the story wasn't ready for the press by the 5pm news the same day.

It's going to be tough. Going from what Fabian had said in an interview after he'd been injured, Porter has done a lot of good work off the ice in a leadership role. That being said, he did increase his numbers this past season especially in the assists department, which shows that he's doing a good job in setting up his teammates. A little regression in the goals scored department. But stats aren't everything. So, I don't think Porter will lose his letter. I don't think it will change from an 'A' to a 'C' though. I see it this way: Captain: Erik Fabian Alternates: Chris Porter, Robbie Bina It's tough because I know Oshie and Parise definitely are worth giving a letter to.

Great pics mwade, though there is a picture that is mislabelled. This one is a picture of TJ Oshie. You have labeled it as Jonathan Toews (he wears #9) -
Article about Zach Parise on Hockeysfuture. It also mentions Travis Zajac's signing. Hockeysfuture's staff and, if you read between the lines, Lou Lamoriello, are happy with Zach's first season as an NHLer. He didn't light it up like many predicted he would, but he definitely showed promise. Larry Robinson's departure was the saving grace, apparently, for Zach's first NHL season. I hope he keeps it up and makes an impact in the playoffs.

Don Cherry is the Doug Woog of Canadian Hockey. Yeah, I said it. Only difference is that Woog makes a decent commentator. Don Cherry has said that the NHL should be closed to or retrict the number of European players in the league. He's a HUGE homer for the CHL and his comments about major juniors just mirrors what the Moncton head coach's actions have been saying: Major Juniors is starting to lose it's vast superiority in hockey talent. More and more scouts are noticing NCAA DI hockey. Even the CHA and AHA are getting looks. Toews was a #1 pick by the Tri City Americans in the WHL bantam draft. Though I'm sure they still hope to nab him, they lost out on two years already (As, IIRC Toews could have gone to Tri City the year prior to coming to UND if he had wanted).. More and more teams, like Moncton, are realizing that they are the 'backup plans' to many first through third round NHL draft picks. Even NCAA coaches are getting noticed (Blais, Lamoriello, and a few others). Former NCAA DI players are becoming coaches in the NHL (Tippett of Dallas as one example). I really think this is nothing more than saying "Look at me look at me" by a league who is losing its superiority. No, I don't think NCAA DI hockey will ever be superior to Major Juniors, but I do think the playing field will continue to even out. The Wild only want MInnesota kids? News to me. I thought they only wanted defensive players and other teams' rejects. Never knew I was wrong. Good to know.

I respectfully disagree onlooker. If the defense can check you, then the defense has something to do other than be pylons or hope that they are in the right position for whatever play the oncoming offensive rush has in mind. Defensive players cannot play the puck, they'll get burned 99% of the time (the 1% goes to the offensive player screwing up). I think checking can be a good thing. Just because players in men's hockey check doesn't make it a dirty or dangerous sport. Hockey can be dirty and dangerous without checking just the same. I think it makes it more of a contest of skill to allow physical play. The winning team then has earned the victory instead of just being able to skate through the obstacles in a really crowded version of moving Plinko on the ice with a goaltender blocking the $5000 slot. Checking in some form should be allowed. 2 minute minor for bodychecking is the lamest penalty I've ever seen at a game, men's or women's. Oh yeah, the Olympic Committee doesn't need to differentiate men's from women's hockey any more than the obvious: THERE'S WOMEN UNDER DEM HELMENTS! Sheesh, how much different can one get from men?

D1sioux, beside an article of reference to all this, my question is: Can you present an issue for argument without resorting to insulting and putting down other posters who do not share the same opinion as you do? If not, then based on the arguement, I'll side with The Sicatoka over your opinion because Sic posted a rational, yet opposing, viewpoint in which you responded by name calling. Name calling = admission of defeat in a debate. How so? Name calling means you've left the issue behind and attacked the character of the person presenting the case. So, yeah, I expect to be called 'ignorant' or 'clueless' or whatever, but so be it. Oh, fightingbooya and Sic- Good points the both of you.

PCM- The bolded part is what I was trying to say. Maybe Holmberg himself won't be in charge, but people who believe the same as he does would basically be the same.

Agreed x2. I thought early on Finley held back every time he was going to hit someone. It's almost like Finley's spot in the roster was in jeopardy and he would lose it if he got called for a penalty. Tentativeness isn't something we're used to seeing from a big defenseman wearing a Sioux jersey. And Jones gets too aggressive at times because he has a tendency to play with too much emotion. For a guy his size, he sure can hit though. Chris aka MaizeRage gave Jones props though in an abstract way claiming that Michigan's chances vs. UND would have been much better if Michigan had a defenseman like Jones on the ice during the regionals.

My point exactly. Sorry, Piper, but you're wrong. Just face it and move along.
