Part of it was his total compensation package did not include gate revenues (3%) like Bohl's did and it was made up in other areas including base. If they wanted Klieman to stay instead of go to Wyoming, they had to make it worth his while which they did. I thinK Klieman will be a good coach, but there again, he needs to bring in a good assistant staff. With a decent pool, he will likely be able to attract some good talent.

You thought 9 head coach interviews was a lot to sort through? With the generic requirements for the assistant coach position, to get some of the guys you want to hire, can you imagine how many applicants you would have to go through if it was open for over a month due to the point system they have to work through? The position closes on 12/30. Well under 2 weeks from when the new coach will be hired. Do I think it could have been posted a week sooner? Definitely. No clue why they waited to pull down the head coaching one before the assistant coaching one was put up. I think a fair question to ask is why does the Assistant Coach position only need to be posted for 10 days rather than 15? Different categorization within the University?

If they hiring committee wasn't able to start the process until the opening's deadline, then no, it wasn't going to be done the day after the deadline, especially having to go through the HR stuff on top of the interview process. Apparently it took a week. If a guy is going to assemble his staff and get the majority of his guys that he wants, you have to give him some time to put that together. You would have a hard time convincing guys to apply for a job with only a chance that the guy who is asking him is going to get the head coaching job. Otherwise you run into a lot of people putting their names out there (due to open record laws) only having them pull out while possibly offending their current employer. Could it have been put out a week or so ago? Possibly, but no way is it posted at the same time.

Very, very interesting....... Head coach job is no longer posted on UND's website.....but an opening for an Assistant Coach was posted yesterday. I'd assume that means expect an announcement soon as a decision has been made. Bubba or DeBoer?

They fired a coach with 2 years remaining in his contract, basically eating up to $175K. They went digging and found more money to pay a head coach and assistants. Seems like if they weren't serious they wouldn't have done either of those things.

Has anyone heard if there has been any applicants that have applied since the "preferred" deadline?

Closest I could find in a quick search:

Come on you, you already know what the answer to that is going to be...It was during the course of play and the puck was near him, automatically makes it a clean hit.

Just because they were on Faison's short list doesn't mean he could convince them to apply, especially with the open records process. The Herald guys know of a handful of coaches that didn't apply specifically because of it. Now if Faison couldn't talk with them and give some reassurance on where they would end up after applying, that is disappointing on a few different levels. I wonder if there have been any more open record requests to see if anyone has applied since the deadline? All that being said, both DoBoer and Bubba were on most people's short list here and ending up with one of them seemed somewhat likely from the beginning. Seems a little anticlimactic with how long this has taken, but if they weren't able to do the interviews until the deadline date and had to interview 9 candidates, then it is what it is unfortunately.

Definitely agree. Nagy is a good coach, he will have no issue throwing a zone at UND. Hopefully there is a good crowd there, should be lots of people with tickets already from the Big Game pack.
-
Not sure how I forgot about that. I stand corrected.
-
Still have a feeling it will be DoBoer.
-
I think the Jacks are finally finding their identity without Wolters and bringing in a few new pieces (Larson from UF). Hopefully it doesn't include zone defense.

Miller was mainly a 400/800/1600 runner along with related relays in high school and Chappell mainly ran hurdles and the sprint relays. Probably leads to what you were getting at, but they were different types of runners. Not sure either of them qualified for state in the 100m dash or if they did, they didn't run at the state meet. Edit - Completely blanked on the 2005 state meet, Chappell won the 100m and 200m.

If schools handle the extra games correctly and schedule strong OOC games, it could very easily help bump up the conference RPI.
-
I agree but that is just my gut feeling at this point.
-
Was my dark horse candidate as well. Unless there is someone waiting in the wings, I expect DoBoer to get the job.

Fading Memory...or North Dakota Media Guide Incorrect?
jdub27 replied to MafiaMan's topic in Men's Hockey
For what it is worth, the NMU media guide lists the location of those games the same as UND's media guide. -
Meh. He said there would be an announcement Wednesday and then by the end of the week. No surprise that his "sources" were wrong on both accounts.
-
What kind of staff would he be able to put together if the majority of his old staff is still at Montana? Don't think we'd be able to pay more than they are.
-
Should have been your first bullet point. But yes, looks like a very solid candidate and until now, no one even mentioned him. There are some quality guys that have applied.
-
I believe he had surgery a couple weeks back. No clue what for or how serious. Anyone have any idea?
-
Can you include Christopher McComas as well? He's the most nationally recognizable candidate as of right now.
