Rookie tournaments like the ones that happen before training camps you can attend if you pay your way, as Kristo attended one of these the year he played in the USHL, but most college players don't because it conflicts with school. So it all depends if the individual in question had things paid for.

You can attend camps if you pay your own way. It just depends if they paid for him to attend or not. Lots of players attend NHL camps in the summer. Most NHL draftees do, I know that.

I'm going to guess OHL. That's what you normally see with foreign players in the USHL, particularly Russians. And that's what I've heard about this guy as well. And correction, Matteau is going to the QMJHL.

They do it everywhere. Every arena I've been to, it's been done. It's like a tradition for student sections, no matter the score. So lets not restrict it to a few schools when it's everywhere.

I'd be surprised if Molenaar ended up at UND. From what I heard, he turned down UNO last year because he wanted to go to a better "academic" school. So he went to juniors. I heard Boston College was heavy after him also.

He was out of line and as a professional in his field of work, it showed a complete lack of professionalism to rail on student athletes of an opposing institution. That's the issue here. While I'm not sure the U should apologize since they have no control over what Wally says on air, Wally definitely should. I don't find the term hosehead funny. It's a derogatory term for an individual from Canada, and really disrespectful.

Voltin just tweeted he's not going to the WHL and looking to play in the USHL and come to UND following that stint.

I'm answering my own question. The CHL deadline for adding players is January 10th and has passed, so is he goes there it will be next season. But hopefully he doesn't.

Gopher recruits don't go major junior because 95% of them are from Minnesota, land of 5 D1 hockey programs. They grew up surrounded by college hockey and it's what they want to do. Very few Minnesotans go play in the WHL. Which is why I'm not sure if I believe Voltin will go to the WHL. But we'll see. It's different with kids like Grimaldi that are from California because Seattle and Portland both have WHL teams and that's just a drive up the coast so they are more familiar. It's different in Minnesota.

His rights are protected by Portland. Can he even still go to the WHL this season? Is there a deadline for signing players? I know the trade deadline passed, so I'm not sure. I hope he still comes to UND, because it just seems like he genuinely wants to be here, but with his situation, going elsewhere wouldn't surprise me at all.
