Kind of wish they could bring back Frenchy's place and start up the 1/2 lbs burgers and the beer mugs...god that would be great for lunch today!

Let's all keep it clean when it comes to Judy's!!!!

Nationwide Search = Bubba or DeBoer? More like a gong show on the administrative side. Anyone who says Faison wasn't realizing he was going to have to make a decision at the end of the year probably didn't attend any of the football games - ghost town before half-time and at the end ghost town before the game started. A DI AD needs to be an awesome networker and must have the pulse of the market...Filtering 70+ applicants down to Bubba and DeBoer doesn't seem like the high level of organizational skill we expect. I can only hope that whatever decision is made doesn't turn out to be another 5 years of mediocrity and indecision by our team and the athletic department. Continued disappointment with the process...hopefully we are all off base and he comes through with a solid winner off the list...

The good Lord knows I'm not the smartest guy when it comes to football nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, but I am really disappointed with this whole process and the glaring fact that our AD didn't really have a solid short list for our football team's open coaching position. To pour some more gas on it, 3 games into the last season we are getting destroyed by the normal, year in-year out competition of the Big Sky and our AD only has Bubba and DeBoer on his list at the end of the season??? Seriously, if this doesn't scare the hell out of you, then I'm not sure you have a heartbeat..."Why could we have not gotten some real coaching talent from this ridiculous hiring process?" should be the $64k question in my mind. Cue up the laughter in FUville.

Portland State Football - "must be fiscally self-sufficient"
BobIwabuchiFan replied to The Sicatoka's topic in NCAA News
I would find it very hard to believe that we would make the "Not Moving Up" mistake twice in a generation, but I guess anything can happen when its taking 30+ days to replace a coach on our #2 highest revenue generating sport... -
If he has to have 9 candidates to get "his" choice, then he really didn't have a good understanding of who was going to be available and most likely to apply (e.g. His short list was really short to begin with....).
-
Another point for all the Fire Hak posters...Can you imagine how long Faison would take with an outside the staff hire for Sioux Hockey!!! After seeing this gong show for the Football coach, I hope we don't have to do this process in Hockey anytime soon - Maybe Dave Hakstol can coach until his early 70's!
-
I've done quite a lot of hiring in my career and I've never had a top list of 9 after the vetting process! At most you would look at maybe 4, but you should have this done to 3 people at most. To start at 9 with full interviews and background checks you could be doing this for another 4 weeks for Christ-sakes. Regardless of the process, I'm beginning to think we really didn't have a short list ready when we fired Muss or at least it was a short-list on unattainable candidates.
-
At first I thought this was making a joke of the program, but I'm coming around to this guy's enthusiasm and publicity he is bringing...Maybe if Faison takes a month more to get a coach this guy will be on Leno helping sell the position nationally - he's turning out to be a 'Siouxper' Fan!

Did the REA get any of the women's Final Four opportunities? It just seems ridiculous to me that we can't use a 11k+ facility which would be packed full for a men's regional because of the BS sensitivities of the selection committee and the other hockey colleges...How many times did we have to play in other folks home rinks during the playoffs and no one said boo about it? (Michigan on in the early 2000s maybe)

I was just stating that the expectations levels are going to be slightly different at UND vs NDSU...UND is looking to get to a point in the future NDSU has already attained and NDSU wants to stay at this point knowing that it is more likely than not to drop back down. Which one would you want to be part of? Turning around a program or having to live up to a potential 3 time NC coaching staff - If I wanted some form of stability, then I would probably choose the turn-around opportunity. Plus, the unbearable expectations of the FU fans would put most into potential suicide watch! Touche!
-
I can imagine if NDSU doesn't go internally that they will find some way to break the NDUS hiring rules to get their guy in a fraction of the time UND has...any takers on that bet?
-
Apparently you don't know who owns the Wild Hog...I would think those guys could buy a lot of $1 shots, possibly multiple rounds for the whole city over a couple of weeks before getting worried about the balance in their wholly-owned banks. If they are backing UND on helping with the salary issues, then we are in good company. Just sayin'
-
Apologize if this point has been made as I am still going through the 12 pages added from yesterday....I think the smart move is to make the call this week as stated by UND-FB-FAN and get at least a 3-4 week jump on the recruiting side before NDSU has their super coaching staff assembled. I am sure there are people who are unsettled with Bohl's departure and might be looking for options - not sure if its a great amount, but even if its one person who jumps ship its a win in my mind if UND could jump on the opportunity.
-
I'm just thinking of the expectations you are going to have to live up to in Fargo if you are the new coach...pretty daunting for anyone, even a well-liked assistant is going to face very critical eyes going forward.
-
I guess I see if differently between the two...Pflu was backing his player and was later vindicated after losing his job while Bleil looks like he knowingly violated NCAA recruiting rules...
-
Is it safe to assume that if the Bison don't promote an assistant to the HC role that they will be going through this 30 day period of torture? It will be interesting to see what candidates apply for NDSU vs UND and contrary to most opinions on this page, I kinda like the transparency deal as it makes it easy to see who is applying!
-
If you take out the clowns who applied for the "15 mins of Fame" reasons, what is everybody's perception of the quality of applicants at this point? Middle of the pack or heavily weighted to the high end or less than stellar? Does anyone have any opinion on the quantity as well given the amount of time involved already in the opening - should it be larger or is the quantity higher than most thought would apply?
-
I think Pflugard is the way to go...Nothing against Bubba, but his time in SIU has not been one to be exceptionally proud of...Pflugard has an extensive background as a recruiter and we need to level the playing field in ND and surrounding states, especially since Bohl has owned us in ND for a while now and the favorite team is not UND for football at this time - it needs to change...I also think he brings in assistants with a history as good as Bubba's and I'm not sure Bubba will be able to do the same...my 2 cents. I think these are my measuring sticks when it comes to our new coach... - Discipline: Must be able to enforce it and must also make the team respect discipline. - Motivator: We need someone who can get this team and the community to believe once again it will beat NDSU on the field anywhere and anytime; Has to be a complete dragonslayer on the psychological side for our team. - Recruiter: Has to sell the team and the system to the kids and their parents; needs to be on par or even dominate in ND; need to win the battle with our in-state rival for who is ND's football team! - Leader: Must have respect of his team, but also his staff...Leaders will be followed and the community and university need to see a real leader in the position. - Communicator: Must be comfortable talking to the community and the university; needs to accept the traditions of the team (Tailgating fans, the walk into the stadium, ex-coaches volunteering, the TD cowboy) and be able to effectively communicate why they are important to the program If this coach can meet these, then I am certain the Wins will follow...

Would it make sense for the university to purchase a building downtown and convert it to a classroom/business like experience? Helps the university and the city at the same time...I think NDSU did this recently....

I watched most of the game on Saturday and something stuck out to me the most...the best chances for the Sioux came when our forwards carried the puck into their zone and created space. We were summarily rejected most of the time when we dumped and chased it...it was like taking energy out of our team when they would hustle down into the corners for the puck on the dump and then in 2 seconds the puck is travelling 30 mph out of the zone and they are playing catch up. Additionally, it doesn't seem like we have a big enough of a guy to sit front and center and take the beating when in their zone. The defense has some problems as well, especially when they have to change assignments...multiple times during the game the BU forward cuts across the net without the puck and set up a 'tent' on the corner with the defenseman not paying attention - maybe its the youth and lack of attention to the system, but this is going to keep killing us in games, especially close ones. Lastly, I thought we were going to be a fast team, but I'm having to change my mind right now - only players with real scary speed are Grimaldi and maybe cagguila...

Total or base salary?
