  1. So UND is the only team in the Big Sky that can win a championship, huh. Should be a clean sweep in FB and both basketballs in a year or so. Championships come from great coaches, the right culture, the right leadership not from nicier weight rooms, lounges, more SID's, etc.
  2. So are you prediciting championship programs across the board? In what year 2017, 2018? Women's hockey has been funded at a championship level...how's that working? Again I'm all for funding teams at a level they can compete...I just believe it can be done without cutting sports. I would argue that with FCOA, UND is funded better than most...shouldn't that result in championships?
  3. Here's a question...if enrollement was where it was 3 or 4 years ago, would the budget be an issue? Sometimes the real issue is in a much different place than the actual one. Or do we really need to offer FCOA, I believe we are the only Big Sky School doing this. What I have a hard time with is we just dumped 30 million into a practice facility (which I agree is needed) but now are asking 6 programs to parade through a meeting and beg to be saved. With fewer sports, I assume we will cut from the SID, Strength, Athletic Training, Athletic Administration as there will be significantly fewer student athletes...but we all know that won't happen. For the record I'm on the side of keeping the sports, they drive enrollement, create alumni, contribute to the campus culture, etc. So how would I solve the budget issue...first cut FCOA, second freeze salaries, third be transparent about the amount of money that needs to be raised, forth look at the number of contests some of the olympic sports play and adjust that number. If softball play 56 games, mandate that they play 50, if soccer plays 20 mandate they play 18, etc. There are other ways...it just takes leadership and thinking outside the box.
  4. The SRS poll mimics the selection process. last years can be found here;. http://www.ncaa.com/rankings/football/fcs/simple-ratings-system Im not sure when the first one come out this year.
  5. When's the "debate"? Maybe they'll live stream it!?! Seriously, what a mess. It may rival tonight's presidential debate. On a serious note, I wonder if any coach will attempt to throw another sport under the bus and state "why their sport is a better one to keep".
  6. I believe that is the goal but the Big Sky must ok it!
  7. WOW a 1.4 million dollar shortfall! I think big changes could be coming.
  8. The criteria is the SRS ranking or follow the GPI during the season as it mirrors the SRS well. I posted prior to Poly that we were 42, that's just too low. Our SOS was poor, mostly out of our control based on our Big Sky Schedule and the unbalanced schedule. Next years conference schedule looks worse so I think we will need 8 wins.
  9. Guys I'm worried about how low we are in the GPI. That is supposedly what the committee looks at for selection and seeding. Prior to this win we were 42. http://www.fcsinsider.com/news/articles/2015/371/gridiron-power-index--ndsu-back-at-no-1/
  10. I'm in the Summit/MVFC camp. I think it would energize the fan base and university...yes I know we played some of the schools in MBB, WBB, VB, etc but not all. Honestly a SDSU vs UND WBB game in The Betty would excite me....and here's the great part...we would play NDSU, USD, SDSU twice a year in those sports...a home game against those teams every year would help energize the casual fan in those sports.
  11. Let's just be thankful we're in the Big Sky this year. I think almost every MVFC team is ranked and I think the conference as a whole has only lost to 1 FCS team
  12. Here's what the summit league/Mvc offers 1) largest attended fb game in 2013 (SDSU) 2) largest attended Mbb game in 2013 (NDSU) There is nothing wrong with the Big Sky but games against the other Dakota schools happening more often in grand forks would bring bigger crowds and in turn more energy to the fan base (plus additional revenue). Thing of it this way...(hypothetically speaking of course). If und was invited to reunite with MN and WI in the Big ten hockey conference...would you say being reunited with those former rivals wouldn't do anything for the program? Everyone is entitled to their opinion...mine is that a mvc/summit invitation would provide a boost of energy to the fan base. I would be more excited at future schedules than if we remained in the big sky. My opinion of course.
  13. Put me in the category that if the summit league/mvfc opportunity comes up that we should take it. Regular Sioux/bison fb games plus more games against old rivals. Let's be honest the only way we play NDSU in fb is if were in the same conference...that fb game will energize our fan base.
  14. It main things. 1) it usually comes down to the amount of the exit fee for the conference they are leaving...the quicker you leave the more you pay. I believe the WAC paid the exit fee for UMKC. 2) sometimes the new conference doesn't want to redo conference schedules as it may cause current members to have to pay contract buyouts for non conference games that could be caused by adding additional conference games.
  15. Lets be honest, the Summit League will survive. It will never be stable unless it adds Football. The WAC has proven that an AQ is to valuable for mid to low majors to let it fold. There will be schools who look at the Summit as a chance to earn a bid to the NCAA's (much the way UMKC looked at the WAC). The question will be "who's will it be". Both the Big Sky and the Summits are almost exclusively 1 bid leagues for all sports (except football) the question would you rather be in a 1 bid league with 8 or 10 member or one with 14 or 16? Also would you rather have your NCAA money divided by 8 or 10 or 14 or 16?
  16. I believe that UNC and us could stablize the summit and a summit plus unc and und would be a better fit for us, simply because of travel cost for sports like vb, soccer, softball and bb. Reduced travel cost would provide the ability to do more for those sports from a facility, equipment and budget stand point.
  17. Don't we need to remove a very large building before we can put a shovel in the ground?
  18. Is anyone concerned with the lack of recruits on the defensive side?
  19. Your forgetting Bobbit the safety...would've liked to see him in our class. And the osseo rb, that was mn player of the year I believe. That plus the lb are a few pretty good gets.
  20. Are you serious? They've been in the playoff twice and have beaten us badly in the only game played as DI members. I would expect them to win more recruiting battles against UND. I would also expect NDSU win the majority of the recruiting battles they have. Bottom line: Winning Matters!
  21. I agree the kid looks good but don't we have enough receivers? At some point isn't our recruiting dictated by the depth chart?
  22. I believe Bobbit was the Conference Defensive player of the year as a junior and senior for what its worth.
  23. Nearing 2 months without a coach....I have to assume that it's getting close, otherwise I'd imagine that we're going to start loosing recruits if we haven't already. I also agree that the Minot State coach would be a good get. The Mankato coach would be as well.
  24. Put me in the corner that if we could get UNC to be Denver's travel partner that I would prefer the Summit League. I miss the day trips to road games.
  25. I seem to remember Tom Brady getting his chance because of an injury and keeping the starting job once the other QB got heathly. Sometimes someones game performance changes the depth chart.
