  1. I guess I am in that category. I firmly believe that there is no excuse for the 2011 Sioux Football schedule, yes I know that it will get better and blah blah blah but however was/is responsible for the final product didn't do an exceptable job in my opinion. Every stone was not left unturned...for example everyone talks about how much it costs to bring in an FCS team...approach the FB Letterwinners or alumni with "right now we will have three non DI games on our schedule because we can't afford to pay the needed gaurentee for an FCS home game". I know its hard...but in my mind someone gave up and gave in and took the easy way out.
  2. I think baseball will be the casualty of choosing the Big Sky over the Summit League. I still find it interesting that people feel that scheduling for football was near impossible without a conference...try scheduling 60 baseball games with-out a conference.
  3. I hope that pressure won't cost a kid a year of play-off eligibility. I still think that it is crazy that Miller had his shirt pulled for the limited time on the field he saw.
  4. with our 2011 schedule I would Redshirt all true freshmen. No reason to take a play-off eligible year away from a player.
  5. I'm going to take a guess and say being arrested or cited for underage drinking is a violation of team rules. Since there has been no arrest or citation there is no violation of team rules. Regarless...I hope there is more positive news forthcoming regardless of if alcohol was involved.
  6. I still vote for Vegas, destination city, cheaper flights, with-in the Big Sky foot print.....and really who doesn't want a reason to take a trip in March to Vegas.
  7. I'm great with Drake on the schedule if you take away the other 3. I'm okay with one "dog" a year on the schedule...but lets not pretend that Drake football is something that it isn't. What would Nebraska fans think if it had 1 Ivy and 3 FCS Schools?
  8. Actually we have 4... 3 Non DI's and Drake (zero scholarships makes them a dog)...Just like an Ivy School would be for an FBS team. USD has 2, but I would trade schedules with them in a heart beat.
  9. Lindenwood is the same as Black Hills State...NAIA in transition to DII. In my opinion the fact trading a sub DI game for the current FCS National Champ makes it 100 times better.
  10. Its obivious (from fasions press conference) that UND has the Big Sky's schedule in 2012 thru 2015. I wonder when they'll make those schedules public.
  11. I think everybody in the Big Sky will have that request since Montana travels so well. I doubt UND will play both MSU and UM every year. If the go with 1 "Rival" I would guess that UND would be paired with Northern CO.
  12. Are we in the Big Sky next year? I thought it was 2012-13
  13. What an unbelievable young man and a wonderful miracal.
  14. Thats a good schedule all things considered (location, transition, ect)...it definately makes the softball schedule look that much worse
  15. Montana would have been a playoff team this year if the would have had 1 more DI win...their choice to play a DII game cost them a playoff berth. I personally hope we dont play any sub DI teams after this year.
  16. I hope this is just a message board rumor...but the link below seems to indicate that we will have St. Cloud State on our 2011 and 2012 schedule. A D2 game in 2012 wouldn't be acceptable in my book. http://www.d2messageboard.com/showthread.php?t=38602
  17. here's a thought....how about Vegas? Great destination city in the center of the Big Sky footprint and for the most part a true neutral court.
  18. but a predetermined site makes it an event....much like the WCHA Final 5, it certainly give Minny an advantage but its a great event to attend and anchoring a site for a number of years builds tradition. The MVC has theirs in St. Louis and I think most conferences prefer a predetermined site because of thier ability to solicite bids, I believe the SF put forth a healty bid package to land the Summit League tourney which again helps the conference as a whole, much like the revenue from the WCHA final 5.
  19. Just noticed the schedule....http://www.fightingsioux.com/SportSelect.dbml?&DB_OEM_ID=13500&SPID=6392&SPSID=58593 This makes the 2011 football schedule look like gold. I have to ask why do we sponsor a sport that has four homes games (2 Double Headers)...Against Valley City and Jamestown. Why no USD, SDSU, NDSU, UNI? I know that the transition is tough but we have to be able to manage a better schedule than this. Every other sport does...even baseball manages a few decent DI home games.
  20. I think everybody realizes that its hard. But if both NDSU and SDSU were able to do it....why shouldn't UND be able to do it. Thats where my dissappointment comes in. Also it makes me even angrier that Fasion turned down a NDSU Home/Home every other year to give us a schedule with 3 NAIA teams on it.
  21. This is a travesty for the players. It should be about the student athlete experience and having they play 1/4 of their games against NAIA teams is awful. Win or Loss...Sell out or not the player that give their all for Fighting Sioux Football should have the opportunity to COMPETE at the DI level.
  22. I also think that traditional UND has been able to have early home games. In DII we would pay teams to come and play in grand forks early in the season. Now we are going on the road for money games. In the Dakota's september games draw significantly more...too many conflicts later in the season....harvest, hunting, hockey (in UND's case), weather (even in UND and USD case, some people want a nice day to tailgate to go to the game). The answer to the attendence woes....3 home games before the 1st of October.
  23. I do think the ticket prices are a factor during down years, especially for a family. It's about $100 for a family of 4 with parking, tickets and concessions.
  24. The big challenge will be that everyone will want to play Montana every year because they travel so well....asuming they are still in the Big Sky in 2012
