  1. In those sports you wouldn't be able to fund M Lax with scholarships. M golf has what 2 and Baseball 2.5?
  2. I think that having 3 different coaches in 3 years and 5 in 6 years implies that there may have been a need for a large class. Also with 7 seniors I think that women's soccer needed an influx of young talent.
  3. I've seen recruits listed like that before. Here's a link to the gopher site that does it the same way. http://www.gophersports.com/sportsNews/pre...port_id=wsoccer On the other hand this seems like a really big class for soccer, it also seems like there are some quality kids in there. I guess the new coaches didn't waste anytime in recruiting.
  4. I agree that W hockey has a big potential at UND. I just think that in its 4th year the progress isn't there. The first recruited class is now graduating and it's much easier to recruit to a "new" program than one in the cellar of the WCHA, maybe the Ralph will make up for it. Its also important to note that the so called "Big Dogs" in the WCHA lost there big players to the olympic team. UMD and UM should be much more normal this year than last year.
  5. Hey UND student that cannot let go of west High School hockey, Oh I meant Wilbur; this is a website set up for all people wanting to post their views on hockey of all forms. But according to you, only varisty hockey should be posted, and only posts that are to do with previous posts. I think you spend too much time dwelling on this site and you need to use your time to enjoy college life, rather than worrying about what your Minot team is doing. In my opinion, i tinhk there should not be much discussion on this site from old hockey players that play only outdoor and innamural hockey like yourself. I am sure you will be at every EDC and State hockey game these next few weekends. When you are at the EDC tourny, take note of how real hockey is played. Then at state, watch how real hockey players show-up the West teams....again. I have a question for you...Will you still come to the games even when Minot and the rest of the West teams are beat out by the first round? Maybe you can buy me a Taco-in-Bag
  6. I really don't think that we should compare W hockey to W Soccer. They do have many or the same struggles, like there are 13 HS Soccer teams in the state of ND very similiar to W Hockey #'s. I agree that it is more difficult for a program to compete with DI competition, but they are also given more (money, staff, facilities, ect.) The major question is are we getting our money's worth? Should it take us this long to catch up to Bemedji State, St. Cloud, Mankato? I understand that being a frozen four team isn't going to happen overnight, but is there progress being to get better? Two WCHA wins says there is something wrong, what is it? Money? Coaches? The new program card can't be played forever! Afterall this is the fourth year of the program.
  7. As a Sioux fan that doesn't get into RPI and PWR and all the other number stuff, can some of the experts give me, in casual fan terms (which teams to root for), what scenerios would best help us this weekend? Thanks
  8. Honestly, I don't think that there is near the problem everyone is saying that there is. People were turned away after the first sell out. It was a game between the #2 team and #4 team in the country, it should be a sell out and people shoudn't expect to be able to walk up and get tickets. It's like claiming that we a bigger football game after a sellout against the Bison. The atmosphere is so much better than in the Ralph for BB. Then demand isn't there, it may be at some time. But that time is when the place sells out consistantly. Get your tickets early if your worried, or better yet buy season tickets.
  9. Are you joking me, we lost $23,000 on one playoff football game and the man that is responsible still has a job. If times are tough and dollars are at a premium you can't make mistakes like that. Does anybody elso know anything else about this?
  10. That makes a little more sense. I agree he has done a great job and if someone approaches you its flattering and your foolish not to listen or at least explore the possibility. Lets just hope that UND is a better situation for him, or that someone makes it a better situation for him to keep him.
  11. I am very confused by this. I know that this would be a HUGE loss for UND, but why is he interested? Is it money, is it the position, is it his current situation at UND? Rob know the department/university inside and out and if he is "jumping ship" what's going on?
  12. I do have to say I've been hesitant to get on the PANIC bandwagon, but last night was the last straw. I do agree that DI would help MBB greatly, but there is no reason not to compete with "like" compitition and beat lower level teams given the resources of the program. There is something dramaticly wrong, how much can it get worse.
  13. Not all the info is accurate. Soccer Scholarships were cut back to 7 last spring. I would like to see you add another column to the table and that is the # of scholarship our current programs are allowed to have vs what the do have. There is a lot of DI talk and it seems that a lot of people have the wait and see attitude. There is one point being missed and that is funding our current sports fully will make the jump smaller. Also finding ways to increase current endowments will help the finicial jump. I would like to see a committment to that before a DI move is announced. LETS BE PROACTIVE vs REACTIVE
  14. UND Fan I agree, I'm in for 25 or so for a soccer field scoreboard

    DC news

I know that Lennon is taking over the DC duties, but I have to believe this is a temporary move. Anybody here anything thats on the stove?
  16. My thoughts are the University has made a commitment for this programs by giving it more and more each year, whether it be scholarships, additional coaches, budget $'s so then the expectation is that each year Sioux women's hockey gets closer to the top of the WCHA. There is no reason for a step back. You can say injuries, but they have 3 more scholarships than a year ago so at worse they should be the same, right? I'm not a hockey person, but from the outside looking in I would say that because of facilities and the men's tradition women's hockey should be able to grow towards the top of the WCHA.
  17. I saw assistant AD Mike Schepp on WDAZ talking about facilaties and he mention the need for soccer. Maybe the future will bring something on the facility front.
  18. I took your opening message to mean that "its a chance to see" a team that is going to have a long year and needs some change (Because thats what "everyone" on this board seems to be talking about). I didn't mean for it to be personal. It just seems like noone is giving the men's team a chance this year. If my assessment was inacurate or incorrect, I appologize it was nothing personal.
  19. Cratter, Looks like you got caught with speaking a little bit too soon. Not that I disagree with your assessment, but there aren't going to be any changes this year so we mine as well make the most of it. Great Job last night Sioux
  20. This has seemed to get off track. I'm curious about what the non conference schedule will be, especially in GF. I think attendence really benefited from some good nc matchups, it's a shame about the playoff game though. But it is north dakota and deer hunting and GF central in the title game is a lot to over come. So whats the slate look like for next year?
  21. fightingbooya I totally disagree. I have followed the soccer program here since Ang was the coach here. The fact is that is past year was the closest year the program has had to achieving its potential, you must remember they lost the NCC player of the year to graduation and went further than they did a year ago. I remember last year there were two girls that quit in preseason as well as four players that didn't return in the spring (Cody Wright, Tessa May-Fraser, Kayla Lightfoot, and Lacey Woolridge) and you claim that this program WAS going in the right direction. I total disagree I think the ship was righted from where it was headed with the constant change. Last year they lost 4 seniors, 4 people that quite in the spring, and two that had quite in preseason. The new coach inherited some very good returning players but also a recuiting class of 5 players and it doesn't take a alot of math to figure out that 5 doesn't replace 10 very well. What this program needs is stability more than anything. The fact that there was any amount of success in a program with it's third coach in three years is enough that we have nothing to complain about. The field isn't that bad some some things could go along ways (ie scoreboard, some type of enclosure (fence))
  22. Women's Soccer Closure Well the season has ended and I must say that I keep waiting for a drop off of our women's soccer program, because of lack of quality facitlity and the constant coaching changes. I think that most people thought it may come this year, but I think they have a quality coach that was able to be successfull despite a lack of recruiting over the last four years. I can honestly tell you from watching first hand the last two years that they weren't as talented this year as they were last year, but seemed to make further. The big question is .. . . .. . Will Coach Thompson be around for a while? I don't know the answer to that, but my guess is that if there isn't a change in the facility, scholarships, salary, budget and some support given to him its not likely. But one thing is true you don't make the National Tournament being the 3rd coach in 3 years if you aren't quality. My two sense is that he is making an effort to reach out to key people PARENTS, ALUM, KIDS IN THE COMMUNITY and I would hate to see him go. Buning should make this guy a priority and not take the soccer program for granted.
  23. DI in a conference with an automatic bid for NCAA sports would be benificial if the UNIVERSITY/COMMUNITY/STUDENTS fund it. I state that because if it is going to work, the university will have to give more to athletics. The community will need to pay more, either thru ticket prices or fundraising. And the students may need to increase or pass a fee that pays for athletics. If the university/community/students will back I know the coaches will want it.
