  1. Yeah, I almost got turned away at the door after I failed the retinal scan and forgot the secret password!
  2. I was lucky enough to sit in on one of the aforementioned (in the article) focus groups, and I told the reps from SME that I came into the setting with a fair amount of skepticism (mind you, more of an open mind but not cynicism) as to what they'd come up with for the "Three Directions" that they were headed. After seeing the directions, I told them I was surprised that "I did not hate" the basic concepts they revealed as far as primary logo, secondary logo and Word Mark logo. The SME boss told me that, in his business, my sort of reaction could be called a victory for them, especially given the conviction, angst and controversy surrounding the old logo and the transition.
  3. Because we are awesome!
  4. I'm hoping that in Bailey's case (assuming he's from Cali) that the incentive of playing a hair closer to home in a conference that plays most of its games west of the Rockies, and many near the West Coast, will play in UND's favor.

Here's a couple of flashback hot takes for you guys from my practice reports during last August fall camp, when we were all just learning about young Santiago. These quotes were what I wrote about the time Arrington, Oliviera and Iwarri were nursing injuries, and they were forced to move Santiago from WR to RB: "Santiago is very noticeable immediately with his burst and speed. New people come to practice everyday and each day someone wants to know -- "who is #22?"" "Santiago was especially effective on pass and catches out of the backfield. He's got a second and third gear that is deceiving if you're not ready for it." -- It's kind of fun now to look back to a time before John's coming-out party at Wyoming.
  6. Sorry that was cheap shot, not worthy of a 3,000th milestone comment.
  7. Maybe take it up with Obummer.
  8. I knew I'd get a bite! but I thought it might be from our pals to the south. He he. Oh well. All's good!
  9. They might lump our UND champions in with other NCAA champions from other schools and do multi-sport honor kind of thing. I think I've seen that done in the past. FWIWI, don't think I've ever seen FCS champions invited, though, come to think of it.
  10. Both Nelson and Miller attend(ed)/covered UND baseball games over the years. The other full time non hockey reporter, DeVillers, did as well, but his kid was one of the UND coaches. As for financially supporting the programs, that is not a reporter's role nor should it be. I highly doubt Wayne has ever donated a nickel to the football or basketball programs apart from the price of a hot dog or two, and Schloss hasn't given money to the hockey program either.. To your point about it being one man's opinion, this is true and, yes everyone should be able to voice theirs.
  11. This is correct. UND went with the higher tuition cap that was authorized by the State Board of Higher Education but later the State Legislature imposed the lower cap, which caused the shortfall. There wasn't enough time to reverse the process for UND so it was stuck with the original $5M shorfall.
  12. Trouble brewing in Greeley. http://www.bigskyconf.com/news/2016/4/21/MBB_0421161048.aspx
  13. Looks like those NFL.com rankings are a moving target. Schobert now appears just ahead of Will. Unless I misread it before.
  14. Thanks! LOL! Obviously, I didn't review the qualifying criteria. Much appreciated!
  15. So basically the same as Wentz? ( ;

ahhh. Got it. So it was not the head coaching change. Thanks!
  17. I just might have to start liking The Pack, then. Excuse me, I think I just spit up in my mouth a little.
  18. Just ahead of Joe Schobert.... what a tandem that might have been.

Interesting. Winfeldt got really ill and eventually left the program, correct?

Speaking of the OL and what could have been, others may have known this but it was news to me -- according to a recent SI article, Joe Haeg was all set to come to UND but the offer was rescinded after the head coaching change. The article did not elaborate on who did the rescinding, if it was a new coaching staff decision or a de-commit on the part of the player. Here's the link: http://www.si.com/nfl/2016/04/20/joe-haeg-nfl-draft-carson-wentz-north-dakota-state

If the pieces all into place....(and anything can happen, I understand): Stockwell, Bell, Aplin?, Taylor, Grady. With Rooney and new-comer Nguon battling Aplin for starting center. Leaving a rotation of: Cox, Miller, Stiner, Blair and maybe Helgren if he impresses. I am also intrigued by this walk-on Devan Hunt that Valpo tried hard to get from us. Seems to have good size already out of H.S., and I think Valpo (understanding that it is Valpo) thought he might make their two deep right away.

During the spring game Studs and Clive had one connection where #7 put the ball up and had it drop where only #1 could snag it inside the 5 yard line near the sideline. I think you can see that play right at the beginning of the Spring game highlight video. Looks like Studs and Clive have been working on that one for a while. A tease of what's to come?
  24. There are serious issues at UND, but others in the system are doing what they've always done (including UND's former chief executive): whistling past the graveyard.
  25. Given the fact that Kelley hails from New Mexico and spent about as much time in such liberal strongholds as Texas and Wyoming (sarc.) as he did in Cali, I think you can get the idea about how much actual thought was out into that analysis.
