Well I’m guessing since they have been putting out fires, and aren’t on good terms, that isn’t a sign of good negotiation. Negotiation usually works best when one party doesn’t view the other as hostile.

So they only look out for the bottom line during tough times? Maybe the legislature should ask them to double the cuts, they could probably do it easily when they actually need to.

Why were people not complaining about what a crappy deal this Engelstad Arena has been before the Herald article? I don’t fault Kennedy for trying to negotiate a new contract if he saw a better deal for UND, but when you don’t hold the cards, it isn’t very smart to go in with guns blazing. If I get pulled over by the police and hope I just get off with a warning, I don’t ask him/her for their badge number and tell them I am going to tell their superior about the incident. Best to be humble when you are not in a position with leverage.

Contracts! Contracts! Which means someone signed them. Did someone not look over these contracts knowing Ralph had a soft spot for the hockey program? Why, when everyone has enjoyed the Arena for 17 years is this all of a sudden a bad thing? Who is responsible for the Ray Richards land fiasco? If I had a ton of money to give to the University after seeing that scenario and this one play out, there is no way I trust the University to distribute my gift per my wishes. A lot of potential smaller gift givers see this and have second thoughts. I think that all these things are coming about because UND wants to change the game late in the 3rd period, deals notwithstanding.

Personally, I cringe at the prospect of UND taking over the arena, because it will become second class and fall behind on updating. I think they need to keep it the finest facility in the country by continually updating to new technology.

Ralph's own quote said the gift was to continue to make UND the top hockey program in the country, which is what his goal was when he gave it.

Yeah, because accusations against politicians are never true because they are the salt of the earth. The skill I think of when I think of politicians is an inability to be honest and resort to phrases such as I don’t recall that conversation. Guess you have a better view of politicians than I do.

So now you are saying someone else will look bad if one of your many conjectures comes to fruition! Let us know how that comes out.

For all that they have donated to UND and the Grand Forks area, I am surprised people question their motives. Guess if people questioned me or threatened a lawsuit after that I would tend to get fed up with that ungrateful nature.

Would be interested to know if she was in town to help with Berry’s new contract. Did they help in getting his contract up to par? Why else would Berry thank her after he signed it?

I guess I would be a little upset at some of the things that were alleged to have been said by Kennedy. Not quite understanding what her motive would be to make that up.

If Kennedy can’t be more diplomatic than to threaten a lawsuit against a benefactor that supports the cash sport, maybe it would have been a good thing if he left. Since Berry thanked Kris McGarry, among others when he got his new deal, I suspect they helped get to the level they needed to be at in the negotiations. Not saying he shouldn’t represent UND’s best interests, but much like most politicians now, diplomacy seems to be a lost art in their world. It seems they love to play the bully that most of them decry.

Are we sure that this guy isn't Dave K? Notice he doesn't answer the question about his or her team? The fact that he basically admits being a troll and still is allowed on this board confuses me as to what needs to happen for someone to get the boot.

Another thing that is not good for the league is how many calls or missed calls is deciding games in the playoffs. Not good when officials are deciding a handful or so of games.

I agree. The biggest problem I had with the whole thing was that I was certain that the writer that told us our nickname was going to be a bird or a color or combination of the two well ahead of this whole process was going to be wrong based on the criteria set. Turns out he called it perfectly because they totally ignored that criteria.

Let's face it, apartment buildings don't exactly give people a sense of community in their neighborhood, so essentially doing that did save that sense of community for those people.
