College athletics has become more cut throat than ever. NDSU has proven they will never do us any favors and the regional summit league members shouldn’t do them any favors if they can pull it off.

An FBS conference of that would be in our best interest. Honestly in time it would be better than the MWC and the Dakota schools could freeze NDSU out. Longshot it would ever happen but we have to be looking for a way. The perception thing can not catch up to us again after the strides we have been making the last few years.

So invite Augastana, Mankato or any other D2 with Visio the vision now. Don’t see that move of St Thomas happening before than. Get that 3 year clock started. I believe the NCAA has a 2 year temporary grace period when major shifts happen.

Or the conference will just have everyone play each other. Losing NDSU off the schedule certainly would hurt but I’d probably worry more about your own scheduling issues

Find a way and bury this program

No one scheduled them non conference when they were FCS, why will those teams schedule them when they are FBS and it costs more money? I guess I don’t see the logic there but could be wrong. I say kick them out of the Summit and figure out how to add another team. Zero chance the MWC adds them for all sports or they can afford to fly their Olympic sports around the conference.

I don’t think there is an option to not add a women’s sport. Borderline title 9 right now.

I probably over simplifying it too. As many have mentioned some of those guys in the portal are done playing and the others are still there for a reason. Need to hit on the when you can. I haven’t seen anything on Fleming signing anywhere. Maybe we can retain him. 2nd semester must start Monday.

You will just have to revisit the remaining 5,000 players in the portal that won’t find an home and/or Jucos. I think the one window will help the smaller schools.

I don’t think the NIL changes much. it’s a lot of money up front but not moving kills athletic budgets in the future. Think we are getting even 5,000 people to the Alerus for a game vs Mankato or Duluth if all of our regional peers move on?

Could the MWC position and east/west and essentially put all of these FCS schools in the west at $10 million a piece and force them to give up 2-3 years of any TV revenue? Between that and the PAC buyouts they could make themselves some good money over the next few years without playing a game.

Hopefully but with Cook having a foot out the door who knows. Regardless of what NDSU does, UND needs to be ready, needs to be thinking about a way to do it regionally or with regional teams. Any FCS teams that have had success moving up have tight footprints for conferences a footprint crossing multiple time zones.
