When I saw this thread, the Deutsch brothers came to my mind. For those too young to know, the backfield of Dale Kasowski, Bill Deutsch, and Brian Grover at quarterback was something. I believe that UND averaged close to 400 yards/game rushing in 1975. Not much of a passing game though.

Just got home from the game and will add a few observations. 1) The team did some good hitting tonight. It was great to see some physical play by most of the team, not just a few. 2) Sioux started ok, not great. But Zajac's goal really lit a fire into them. For long periods the rest of the game they outhustled CC. Occasionally CC would step it up and match the Sioux, but the Sioux just dominated for stretches, especially during the 3 goal outburst. There were times when the first two guys to the loose puck were both Sioux. That is the reason that CC got so many fewer shots. Friday night they were beating the Sioux to the puck in the Sioux zone, and thus more chances. 3) Defense played better, but there were times when guys did not move their feet (especially Lee - he dogged it back into the zone a couple of times after the puck. But he did play better and more physical.). But overall the defense played better with fewer giveaways. Far fewer poke checks and more taking the body off the puck. 4) It looked like last year's TJ out there. A terror all over the ice. 5) Genoway is starting to look like a fit with Toews and Duncan. He did a good job working on cycling the puck in the corner with the other two. 6) Vandevelde is beginning to step it up and not looking like he is dragging lead weights as before. He was a physical force in the middle. 7) Sioux had a number of great setup passes, but just couldn't finish. If they start to finish those, look out. 8) This team needs a few more positive experiences like tonight before they face a team with good speed. They will need to have more confidence and more consistency in knowing what it takes to win. 9) And finally, Schmidt swallowed the whistle. There were penalties on both sides that were let go. It looked like WCHA hockey from a couple of years ago. A lot of CC interference that simply wasn't called, holding the stick, clutching/grabbing, etc. A fun game to watch!!

Hey SiouxSportsters: I ordered three jackets and two were the wrong size. I can return them, but thought I would offer them here if someone wants to buy one or both. They are very nice. Both are Size L. Price is $60 each, which will save you on shipping from ordering it on-line. I can have them in Grand Forks for the Saturday night hockey game against CC. Please PM me or respond here. If no one is interested, they go back on Monday for an exchange.

Read the thread title. It is the geatest time in the new REA, not Sioux hockey in the REA or Sioux hockey history. In that vein, it is the night of the 2006 west regional. But it is not the greatest time in Sioux hockey history, not even close. While I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the Gophers lose, I don't give them enough credit (in losing) to even make my top ten in Sioux hockey history.

Hands down, Friday night, West Regionals-Gophers getting Holy Crossed and Sioux beating Michigan. The arena was magic that night. I was hoarse at the end of the first game and almost couldn't make a sound after the second game.

You have to be able to read the label to know that.

At least now I know where Triouxper is headed (Da Bus!!) when he sneaks out of The Ralph a few minutes early before the end of the game.
-
Somehow the theme here "How quickly they forget..." and the glue Triouxper is peddling seem to add up!!

Last year TJ, Toews, Duncan and the other young guns had Stafford, Zajac, Spirko, and yesss-Prpich drawing the attention of the other teams. That allowed them to skate against lesser players and fly under the radar for a while. On this team, they are drawing all of the attention. The Sioux are a very very young team. Our predominant leaders are sophomores. Give the freshman some time to get adjusted to the game, start picking up some slack and things will get better. Like it or not, the bottom of the WCHA has moved up this year and there is less margin for error in these games. The UAA trip was a first for many guys on the team, and it isn't time to panic. Keep rooting for the Sioux and let Hakstol do his thing. The defense did not click the past two years until the second half. The offense has had its up and downs the past two years. Finally, root for Holy Cross and the Gophers in St. Louis issue will take care of itself.

I don't think the injunction had anything to do with it. Rumor has it that Warrior_08 was going to show up for the game and leave at half time. 5000 Sioux fans decided to not come to the game until the second half started. However, by then they realized that Winona State's football team hadn't shown up either and so they decided not to come at all.

After what I saw of Marto's play on Saturday night in Kearney, I would have to say that unless he can step it up in a huge way, I will likely be disappointed to see him in green and white. I just did not see the capabilities that I want to see out of a Sioux player.
-
So, in 14 games he is 3-3-6 with a -5 plus/minus rating, fourth worst on the team. T. Zajac is 4-3-7 in 15 games with a +3 rating. Is there a pattern here that we've seen before?
-
Are you kidding? WSU will pronounce it LEEMANS or LEMONS.
-
He's just hoping for a closer game, so he won't be embarrassed and leave at halftime again.
-
Presumably the photographer could copyright his photos, then have SCSU censor them, and the sue them (or pseudo-sue) for damages. Right, PCM? Would it be possible to set that up and trap them?

I thought Sioux played much better Saturday night than Friday night, even though the result was different. Fewer odd man rushes. However, I too feel that the defense are playing too wishy-washy. Lackluster efforts chasing the puck behind the net, etc. That directly led to one of the St. Cloud goals (2nd one). Finley played well, and made an outstanding defensive play. I continue to be disappointed in Brian Lee's defensive play. Definitely too loose with the puck and doesn't move it forward when he should at times. Has way too many turnovers. But a very entertaining game. And think about where we were at this time the past two seasons. If this group follows Hak's typical improvement curve, lookout by the end of the year. Sioux absolutely dominated for long stretches of the game. And Grieco continues to shine. I believe he will be one of the top goalies in the league before long. I am neutral about cowbell man, but "Don't Fear the Reaper" is one of my top three favorite songs. The slow motion of him as "Move of the Game" was funny. And I do know people who do not like him. It was also pointed out to me that Diggler was wearing a pink tie? I do not have confirmation of that, but I know someone was wearing one, front row student section. Sioux-cia - Very glad to see you at the game. Didn't stop by, but I could clearly see you at the far end of the rink.

Observations from the game: 1) Toews was not himself. He appeared stiff and not very fluid. Made me wonder if he was wearing some type of harness or something to prevent injury. He was clearly not himself, but maybe it was rust. He had some great plays on the penalty kill late in the game. 2) Whole Sioux team looked slow and unprepared for the game, except for Grieco. St. Cloud has a lot of skill, but don't appear to have the horses to finish. The Huskies outhustled the Sioux for 75% of the game. 3) Sioux were called for two penalties on very obvious dives. 4) Grieco seems to have great awareness of what is taking place around him. He appears to be able to anticipate the play. The outstanding leg save in the third was a beauty. Look for him to garner playing time, even when Lammy is back. He looked solid. 5) The reaction of Oshie when he scored was priceless. Hopefully this gets the monkey off his back and the puck will start going in. In all reality, Goepfort really blew that one. He could easily have blocked the puck from Toews and kept it from going in front of the net. Instead he just stood there and watched it. He did not impress me. 6) Sioux gave up waaaaaaaayyyyyyy too many odd man rushes. Better teams will kill us on those. 7) 4th line was just not in it at all. Third line at times created more pressure than any other line, especially in the 2nd period. 8) Porter's goal was a knuckler worthy of the best in baseball. It was in the air, dove to the ice, and bounced back up over Goepfort's pads. He was clearly frustrated on that one. 9) Sioux had some outstanding chances with great passes across the front of the net, but guys just couldn't quite finish and drive the puck home. Early in the game Sioux controlled on the power play quite well. 10) Bottom line: Sioux won when they clearly did not play well. 2nd and 3rd periods were better than the 1st, but the Sioux can do much better than that. Hopefully it was a learning experience without losing the game. And now for Saturday night's game. LET'S GO SIOUX.

Thank you PCM and others for connecting the dots. I did not realize that this student was GK. I did follow his posts. I would generally agree that an individual should not have to publicly reveal specific circumstances, except in this case. In this case, the individual could not carry on a logical debate and resorted to the hostile and abusive attitude of which he accused others. In my view, his only remaining support for his position would have been to cite the particular circumstances, which he never did.

I think Fighting Sioux is pretty unique, with or without the interlocking ND. And if someone says Notre Dame, I just say "Notre who?"
-
I would venture a guess that maybe he was getting harrassed because of his viewpoint on the nickname. I would think it would be interesting to hear how he came about coming to UND and then over the years reaching his opinion and belief. I would also like to hear the instances of hostile and abusive behavior. This isn't a challenge to him, I would simply like to hear what he would cite.

Sioux had led shots 14-2. Since then, Mankato outshooting Sioux 23-10. Just plain ugly.

Forney's first shift.

Happy Birthday RWTD. Looks like MTU is going to shake things up this year.

Relax, breathe deep, hold it, now exhale. Remember 2005-2006. The Gophers rode much of the season as #1. What did it get them?? HOLY CROSSED!!!!!!! It is meaningless right now. There are more important things to consider (just about anything is more important than considering where the Gophers are in the poll).

While I think I finally saw some improvement Saturday night, VandeVelde hasn't shown me anything that puts him above anybody else. Maybe he needs more time to adjust, but the needed quickness and speed just aren't there. A big body but that is it so far, IMHO. The others have all provided energy. Genoway and Bishop both show a lot of promise. Martens and Miller are second year guys that bring energy, speed, and hustle. Forney we will have to see when he gets healthy. I have good vibes about Toews for this weekend (no link, inside info, or other). Unless he is at risk for further injury I believe that he will play. I base this on 80% speculation, 15% guess, 5% knowledge (ok, maybe a little heavy on the knowledge part).
