Steve Johnson indicates that he is interested in coming back to UND. http://www.grandforks.com/mld/grandforks/sports/15204121.htm

Forney-Oshie-Porter would be an absolutely punishing line. A wonderful thing to envision, but probably not too likely. A Watkins-Oshie-Porter line or Kozek-Oshie-Porter could be a good combination with Duncan-Toews-Fabian thrown in the mix as well. Lots of wonderful possibilites here. Whatever the top two lines are, there is going to be someone who likely deserves to be up there, but has to fill a role on the third line.

According to this link, they just named Scott Arniel as head coach in early July. http://www.moosehockey.com/news/press_releases.php Evidently if the story on Brad is true, it isn't as head coach.

I think that they will have to be split up on different lines. Otherwise the other teams will simply load up defensively on a single Toews-Oshie line like they did with Parise-Bochenski. As great as that that pair was, I believe that in the long run the rest of the team was held back. There was too much reliance on those two and when they got shut down to some extent, the rest of the team didn't score. While it may take a little longer for the lines to click, having Oshie and Toews on different lines will give other guys the chance to play on a line with top caliber personnel, helping them to develop faster. It is one thing to learn by watching a Toews or Oshie from the bench, and another thing to learn while playing on the same line with them. Guys like Porter and Fabian have earned a chance to play on a top or second line and see how it goes. Both of these guys (Toews and Oshie) make the players around them better. I am a little queasy about putting both of them out on the power play together in that case, because it upsets two regular lines then. One of the great things about the Sioux the second half of the season, the power play lines were usually the 1 & 2 lines. No disruption of lines which helps maintain stamina and avoids goofing up your line rotations for a few shifts after the power play. However, they may need to be together to make a really effective power play. Can't wait to watch and see how all of this turns out.

The Sid has another prognostication. Here is the link: http://www.startribune.com/507/story/568884.html And no, he doesn't cite a source so consider it rumor, propaganda, wild speculation .......

Regardless of who did the recruiting, if Woog had still been coach neither of those national championships would have happened. I give Lucia credit for that. Even from the booth, Woog isn't watching the same game as the rest of the world.

The lack of heart and desire of the Gopher hockey team at the end of the season the past two years really befuddles me. None of us know the exact true cause. But the most telling statement that I heard from a Gopher player after the Holy Cross game was "We deserve better than this!" I don't remember the player who said it in an interview, but it stunned me. I simply could not believe that anyone who played any sports for the length of time these guys have played could have that attitude. Yes the Gophers had a pretty good season, but that is history once the playoffs start. Nothing that happened before now matters. I got into a debate with a Gopher poster that WI loss in the so-called meaningless game was a bad omen. No, MN did not need to win the game, but the Gophers needed to show pride in themselves and their program in that game to right what was a leaky ship. That was the meaning behind the third-place game in this instance. And don't lay that "afternoon game after a tough loss" baloney out there. St. Cloud played three games in three days and showed up for all three games. St. Cloud earned respect. They did far more, with far less, for three straight days than that Gopher team ever thought of doing at that point. For whatever reason, the attitude of the Gopher team was in the sewer. Lucia had better figure out how to cleanse the locker room of that attitude or it will continue to haunt the team in the future. And just so this is somewhat back on topic, we can speculate as to whether Kessel leaving or staying would help cleanse the attitude or really not make a difference. From previous posts it appears that there are opinions on both sides of the aisle, at least from Sioux fans.

Maybe you need a higher quality printer!!

Evidently this idiot isn't aware that his country fines people coming into Canada for DWI's they were convicted of in their own country decades ago. In other words, Canada fines those who have not committed a crime in Canada.

Sioux-cia, How long do we have to recruit others for the large suite before we have to make a final decision?
-
We have to abide by the system. We have many individuals who have been released in the past few years after serving 10-20 years for rapes they did not commit. At the time of their trials, the same things were being said about them. Now, DNA evidence has shown some of them to be innocent. Let the court system do its work. Believe what you want about the case, but do it right. Next time it could be you who is wrongly accused. We have had far too many cases of so-called vigilante justice in history. That is not what civilization is about. Assuming he is guilty, he will get his due.

Thankfully. With his defense it would be a problem.

Dowzak's stats for this past season: 43 Games, 1 G, 3A, +3, 68 PIM Playoffs 8 games, 0G, 0A, +4 , 16 PIM Not exactly eye catching stats. May be the reason he slid off the charts.

http://www.in-forum.com/ap/index.cfm?page=...mp;id=D8ID0BVG3 I didn't see this posted anywhere. Blarney's owner charged with providing free alcohol to Gopher players and recruits who are underage. UMM investigation to follow. Do you suppose that they will request bids to replace Blarney's on their recruiting tour?

I can live with the extra year. The reason is the need to have a conference affiliation. To me, that issue is the biggest anchor around NDSU's athletic programs. It makes no sense to me to go D-1 and live as an independent for a number of years, hoping that someone will be willing to play you. You can't build up any conference rivalries, and the situation seems to stagnate. Now that UND has made the announcement, conferences looking for potential members will give UND a little more consideration when we come knocking. Now we move forward.

Are you sure about Cullen? From what I have been reading, he is from Virginia, MN (not Moorhead). He simply came to Moorhead to play for the Spuds and have a chance of going to state. His hometown is listed as Virginia by the NHL. It will be interesting to see.

You're sure that it was the "back office" part and not that it was used in the context of "puck bunnies," or "babes" or some other pseudo term of endearment?
-
Just curious if anyone is planning or considering a get-together at some Grand Forks local establishment during the NHL draft? Could be just one more reason for an off-season hockey party!!

With Greene and Commodore playing, I really don't care who wins. I had really soured on NHL hockey over the years, with how boring it had become. Too many people who couldn't skate playing clutch and grab hockey. With the rule changes made after the lockout, NHL hockey has changed to become an interesting and exciting game. I certainly hope that the WCHA management and refs are taking note. Yes, there was a blown call on the Oilers (a play near the net called by the center ice official), but overall I have been impressed with the new NHL product and the officiating. Still a very physical game, but also entertaining and without the clutch and grab. The officials have made note of both Commodore and Greene as Fighting Sioux products, but not together in the same breath. It would be great if they did that. Might help with recruiting defensemen in the future.

Kupchella: Self-righteous NCAA deserves lawsuit
Siouxman replied to star2city's topic in UND Nickname
I do not believe that FSU covered all aspects of their case. I am not going back and research it for sure, but I believe that I recall there is a branch of the Seminole tribe in Oklahoma that vocally opposed FSU using Seminoles but the NCAA approved it based on the Florida tribe saying its ok. Well, the Spirit Lake has an official resolution supporting UND use of Fighting Sioux, but other tribes do not. That is the NCAA hypocrisy. Treating a big time Division I institution one way while treating UND differently. -
This is so tiring and boring. Can we please read the topic line and then stick to it?? I realize it is summer and we are all dying from a rash for lack of college hockey. If someone goes off topic and makes a dumb post, don't lower yourself to that level by pouring gasoline on it (that goes for both Sioux and Gopher fans). Hmmm. Maybe someone should start a topic dedicated to the flame fest Sioux/Gopher topic so everyone could leave the other topics alone!

Thanksgiving weekend. Works out great for us.
