  1. So that's what the hell I been smelling at the game this year. Never smelled it before you got your season tickets, but it didn't occur to me to put TheTriouxper+beer+wings+onion rings+chips and sauce together. Imagine that. Good thing you're in the back row.
  2. Just pick the date and location. I might balk at road kill; anything else we'll have to see at the time. I have tried a few unusual things. It took a couple of drinks and a lot of garlic butter to get snails to go down. It is an acquired taste that I didn't acquire.
  3. ok, hang on! Born in Hazen, ND, lived in Zap, Stanton, and Beulah (graduated from high school in 1969), Dickinson State College (1969-1971) USAF 1971-1975 (stationed at Lackland AFB, Lowry AFB, Minot AFB, and RAF Lakenheath, England), at UND 1975-1978 (worked at Frenchy's), Fergus Falls, MN 1978-1979, Crookston, MN 1979-1982, and back to Fergus Falls in late 1982 and been there since. Did not miss a home UND hockey, basketball, or football game while at UND. Have had season hockey tickets since the new Ralph opened. Always appreciate a tailgate party, right Sioux-cia? GO SIOUX!!!!!
  4. I am another one who thought that the officiating this weekend (in total) was a positive from what we have seen. Friday night was not good, as way too much stuff went uncalled. The abuse of Toews was reminiscent of what Zach Parise went through. That is what led to the rough stuff on Saturday night. The officiating did not lose control Saturday night, that was done Friday night. But obviously overnight there was a revelation, because Saturday night's game was one of the best WCHA officiating jobs that I have seen. Yes, the kick to Fabian's head was missed, and and there was an obvious Lawson slash to the back of a Sioux player that should have been called. I disagreed with one or two occasions where I thought UAA should have had an additional penalty. But I did not see any attempt to "even up" the penalties or call "make up" penalties. I also didn't see any obvious phantom penalties called. And it was amazing how Lawson's helmet managed to stay on the whole game. Obviously some pregame officiating took place on that one. This official was a breath of fresh air compared to the "make it up as I go crap" that we have seen for some time. He's shown that he can learn and improve. For the Sioux, the intensity was obvious from the start, across the entire team. Finley clearing out the front of the net was a joy to watch. And Robbie Bina is simply a to watch. Goaltending was solid. The upsetting part for me was watching Lee cough up the puck both nights. Friday night it led to the game tying goal (coming out from behind the net and coughing up the puck right in the slot). Saturday night, Chorney covered up for Lee (obviously ill-advised cross-ice pass that led to an almost break-away).
  5. It depends on what you are grading against. There are many teams that would take the Sioux record and feel it is a positive. In terms of the NCAA, it would be hard to imagine that an almost .500 record would be below a C. In terms of the WCHA, and especially Sioux fans expectations, it would be below a C. It depends on what benchmark you are grading against.

  7. As a result of the Sioux making it to the Frozen Four the past two years we have had the opportunity to see the officials from other conferences. Generally I have been impressed with them and embarrassed at the WCHA officiating. The WCHA is a first class league, except for the officiating which is third class. I simply fail to understand why WCHA officiating seems to be so deficient.
  8. I had waaaaay too much of that tonic on New Year's Eve 1973 in a pub in Edinburgh, Scotland, thanks to a fine Scotsman who taught me a few Scottish salutes. Unfortunately, in the massive hydration that evening (and the not so great morning that followed) they all got washed away but one. And I have no idea what that one means. I haven't had Scotch since. I will forever pass on this one.
  9. Sorry, Soohockey15, but you are talking apples and oranges. This is not a job, it is a sport. Yes, some use it as a stepping stone to a job, but it is not a job. Coaching staffs have a responsibility to the health of their players as it relates to the game of hockey. If health issues are impairing a person or posing a risk to themselves personally, the coaching staff has a responsibility to take positive action. I believe that Hirsch is a senior (I may be wrong on that), with one more semester of eligibility. Mental health is not something where you run to the doctor to get a Z-pac and are ready to go in a few days. It takes many months or longer to nurse someone back to health. This is the second time around for Hirsch, and he took a year off after the first time. I am sure that the Gopher hockey staff has far more information than you or any of us have. I would guess that they were probably informed of things to watch for prior to the start of the season, and what would be the required action if problems arose. FYI, a person is rarely cured from something such as mental illness. The medical profession simply attempts to manage it as best they can, and sometimes someone can become fully functional. But they are always at risk of having a relapse. It would appear that Hirsch has had a relapse of his prior problem, and is going to need substantial help and time to recover. I would suggest that yes, his illness, was possibly a detriment to the team, but more so a detriment to Hirsch himself. Players have to have enough skill, and mental acuity to protect themselves on the ice (and no, I don't mean fighting or rough stuff). Clearly, if Hirsch is not sufficiently well enough to protect himself, he should not be on the ice. It is best to simply wish him well in his recovery and leave it there.
  10. Well said, Sioux-cia. This isn't about someone with an ego problem, a me first problem, or an attitude problem. This is about someone who clearly has a medical problem of some sort. Time for some people to grow up and realize this situation for what it is.
  11. I can personally vouch that the answer is yes, in the Old Ralph. I know of 5 locally caught varmints that made it on the ice in one game. Have not seen it done in the new Ralph.
  12. Out of a Geritol bottle.
  13. That was a great game to watch. Lotssssss of hustle. Great weekend for the team.
  14. Nah - that was just embellishment. He would need to go to WI to learn how to dive.
  15. Another stupid unnecessary penalty in the 3rd, by a captain.
  16. Mixed feelings on this, depending upon how it turns out. I really liked what I saw in Hunter for potential. I too wondered why he wasn't playing more, but then I don't get to see the practices. If he continues his development and then plays for another team, Bah Humbug. But if he returns to the Sioux when he feels it is appropriate for him, then great. Best of luck Hunter and hope to see you back in the Green and White.
  17. It all starts with the team in front of the goalie (or lack thereof). Brian Lee coughed up possession of the puck three times in 40 seconds last night, on the power play. Once in the offensive zone, once at center ice, and once in our own zone. Absolutely unacceptable. It was like he didn't have a clue what to do with the puck. This isn't a pick on Lee post, but just an example of what is not being done right by the whole team. They had numerous scoring chances this weekend, but could not finish. Siouxelevens has it right. There are so many issues with this team it is hard to know where to start. Right now I am very frustrated, but then I remember last year when the low point of the season was after New Year's after losing to St. Cloud. Then they turned it around, so there is still hope. I just don't know that this team has what it takes to turn it around. This is a team thing, and you can't sit the whole team until they get their heads screwed on right. It could be the fact that losing Berry left a hole in the coaching staff that just hasn't been filled. This is a team losing effort so far, and they have to figure it out as a team how to fix it. For those with short memories, recall the clamour for Scott Sandelin as coach when Blais left. UMD had a highly touted recruiting class just two years ago, and look at what they are doing (or not doing is more appropriate). Us posters do not have the answer. The team has to have the answer. Let's just hope that they somehow find it.
  18. You are obviously a newbie when it comes to Sioux hockey. Worst ever? Not even close. No he is not playing well. But he has played very well in the past and shown he is capable. Right now the whole team is struggling. This is a team thing, and not just one or two players.

Sagard, I think you are correct. It is tough to argue with what the Gophers have done to date, but this past weekend has to have Lucia concerned. They haven't had any bumps. They are bound to hit some bumps at some point, and then it will be a big issue as to how the younger players respond. I think that this weekend showed that they aren't rock solid, and once the ship starts taking on some water will the youngers be able to A) plug the leaks or B) panic and go Oh me, oh my! It could easily be B if they haven't had any adversity early in the year. A little doubt can blossom into a raging infection. Time will tell.
  20. They should dominate, but Hak will have them back off on the physical side as they have done in these games in the past. You really don't want anyone to get hurt, on either side. That will reduce the domination aspect.
  21. They will have two L's left as soon as I return mine. I had to exchange them for XL's for my kids.
  22. Actually, I was thinking more the other way. Hak has been tinkering with lines, and they need some quality time together to get on the same page. Would be a good opportunity to do that, although you do have to question whether the U-18 group will be up to providing an adequate challenge to determine much. But the lines do need to develop some familiarity with each other. Also might have to play Lammy one period to keep the rust off.
  23. You are correct. The addition to the building was made just prior to UND hosting the NCAA Division I championship in the late 1980's. It is an event I remember well. It was a toss-up whether the Sioux or Gophers would get in. The Gophers were picked over the Sioux, and played as if they were playing Holy Cross. They didn't show up, especially for the third place game , which they still played in those days.
  24. It is probably because WDAY has been sucked in by Craig Bohl's pipe dream that NDSU football will become the #1 sports team in ND. Evidently they have some of the same stuff that Bohl has in his pipe.
  25. Hate? No. I reserve that for rodents. Revulsion, disgust, disregard - ok, maybe! Hey, I did kind of quietly, with ambivalence, sort of half heartedly hoped the Bison would beat the rodents in football. What more do you want? That much was tough.
