  1. No one, and I mean no one, can overlook or discredit a team from anywhere this time of year, or you risk getting Holy Crossed. The prognosticators last year picked UMN by a huge margin over Holy Cross. When a team starts thinking like that, they are done. The only thing that gets it done is hard work, and an occasional lucky bounce. I don't care who Notre Dame has played or hasn't played this year, or whether UND gets into their regional or some other regional. At that point it is a one game playoff, one game at a time, and anyone can win. That is all that anyone needs to know. Everything else at that point does not matter.
  2. Strictly speaking, it is mandated by state law. However, if it isn't at least 21, you lose federal highway transportation funds, so by default the minimum is set by the federal government.
  3. If they get that new arena built, that would be a major first step in NDSU getting a real hockey team. That would do more for NDSU than anything else their sports could do. Bemidji State has started getting national recognition the past few years. A successful USHL team might make it tougher for NDSU to get going. It would be tough to support two teams in town.
  4. I think the second word was something other than "oh!"
  5. Any chance Siouxgoo = Mike McFeeley??
  6. Brian Lee was supposed to have a huge offensive side. He has been a liability on the defensive, not necessarily a pylon, but not doing the things a defensive player needs to do. I think Lee has been snakebitten this year. When things go wrong for him, they really go wrong. Hopefully he can turn it around next year, because I sure don't see the pros wanting to move him up unless they feel they can do a better job developing him in the minors. I am not a Lee hater, just very disappointed in his play this year. He is definitely in a sophomore slump. Chorney, on the other hand, is a far more complete d-man defensively and is showing a very strong offensive side. That is especially true for a sophomore. He looks far more comfortable than Lee out there and is outplaying him hands down. Gophers brag up Goligoski a lot, but Chorney is just as offensive this year and is solid on defense. Offensively, Chay Genoway has a huge upside. He is showing flashes of brilliance. He is not overtly strong on the defensive side and not a big hitter, but he has not shown the timidness of Lee either. In a couple of years he could be an outstanding defenseman, on both sides of the puck.
  7. I've seen USHL hockey, and I have a tough time believing that real Sioux fans would forego their UND hockey tickets if Fargo got a USHL team. There is a very definite difference in the quality of hockey. Even if the USHL had better quality hockey, I personally would not give up my Sioux tickets and I don't think many others would either. For the few lukewarm Sioux fans that would leave, there are others on the waiting list for Sioux hockey that will step in. It is repulsive for me to even consider a Sioux fan buying USHL season tickets rather than Sioux season tickets because they are cheaper and you get more home games. If a pseudo-Sioux fan did that, it would be a good thing for both sides as they would save money and we would get a more caring fan in the seat in The Ralph. The bigger concern (to some) would be the suites in a new facility, which could take away from the Fargodome.
  8. Expect to see Martens and Foyt. Foyt played well in the Christmas tournament out east, and Marten's speed will be an asset. The landcow forwards were playing very aggressive on the points last night, wandering out to the blue line. That really opened up the center of the ice in front of the goal for the Sioux forwards. It also allowed Chorney, Lee, and Bina to step inside those forwards and get good looks at the goal. Both Chorney and Lee scored and Bina sure could have. It is a tactic that Mankato has used all year, so expect to see it tonight. Sioux speed will dominate again and Sioux will get great scoring opportunities. The only concern that I have is the loss of Fabian from the checking line on the Travis Morin line. Morin really didn't do much at all. Maybe due to his recent injury and maybe some due to the efforts of the checking line. I don't see Hak putting Forney into that role, and it doesn't make much sense to mess up another line by moving someone up a line and putting Forney there. Martens has played off and on this year, so I expect him to take Fabian's spot. Mankato got very few quality scoring chances last night and I expect the same tonight. Sioux were a little rusty last night (even though they dominated), and will be more on their game tonight. To Watch: Sioux get up by a couple of goals early, landcows lose hope, and things get ugly. Sioux will have to be very disciplined to avoid losing players for next weekend. Oops - I just remembered that I believe Martens is injured. That does change things. With that in mind, Hak will have to move someone up from the fourth line and insert Forney there. Maybe move Radke into that slot?? Ouch
  9. Finley played very well last night. He had a touch pass to start a breakout that would have made any forward proud. He really impressed me with his touch on that. The Sioux breakout is the thing that has impressed me a lot the past two series in that the Sioux have very rarely gotten pinned in their own zone. The breakout has been very good against the Gophers and last night against Mankato. I thought last night that the Sioux came out very physical with some good hits, and then seemed to slide into a finesse game with little hitting until Radke totally clocked that Mav late in the game. I really thought that the game was mild until the fisticuffs broke out. I've seen many games be more feisty than this without the kind of melee developing that happened last night. Tonight I see a 6-1 Sioux victory without us scoring any of their goals for them.
  10. Spent some time at the game talking with Dagies and SoDak Sioux Fan. They went to the Sioux Boosters luncheon today and had a great story. Bruce Mcleod was there. Some lady was the MC and she pulled a Gopher jersey out of a bag and held it up. Then she turned in around and the name on the back was "CAMPION." She then offered Hakstol and Jutting a chance to sign the card to go with the jersey to send to Campion. That must have been classic. Would have been great to be there. And by the way, it was a great game tonight. GO SIOUX!! Do it again Saturday night.
  11. You be mistaken. They start to show up one month before you turn 50.
  12. Not a math wizard, are we?? While multiplying two negatives makes a positive, adding two negatives makes a bigger negative (or, a smaller number) In adding a postive and a negative, the larger magnitude of the two numbers prevails. So if we consider PCM a positive (?), and Diggler a double negative, that should leave us with a negative. However, in order for that to be true, PCM cannot equal (then it would be zero) or exceed two Digglers, or it would be positive. Conclusion, there doesn't seem to be agreement. Now can we get back to hockey?
  13. Ease off. It's tough to get up for the game when you've lost your truck, your dog, and your girl (in that order).

Here's my take. Sit back and take a deeeeep breath and think about this. On Siouxsports and on GPL, people are bitching about their fans not getting into the game enough. Too much sitting around and socializing. Now we got people bitching because a fan got into the game. Buning is a fan, and he was doing what both sides want our fans to do. Get into the game and cheer on the team. As long as he wasn't being vulgar, derogatory, demeaning, sexist, etc. he was behaving as a fan. And we know Buning is a fan. That's all there is to it. We can't have it both ways: Urge people to be a fan and get into the game, except for those of you who wear a suit and are part of administration.

And Sioux are Team of the Week on College Hockey News. http://www.collegehockeynews.com/
  17. Saw the Friday night game on TV, but had a birthday party to attend last night I was getting text message updates from my son all night. Got home after the party, and then saw most of the third period on TV (tape delay on FCSC). By then it was 5-3, but man did the Sioux look fast on the big ice. I've seen a few Gopher fans comment about the Sioux team speed as well. It was very evident this weekend. How sweet it is. The only disappointment now is that it is two weeks to the next series.
  18. It appears that we Sioux fans are all wet about the officiating. According to Bushwood Gopher on GPL: I believe he is better than many of the others, but that comparison doesn't automatically add up to good.
  19. There was one other one that I remember from about 1976-77 or so. Dave Geving of the Sioux flipped one down into the Colorado College zone from right about the red line to get a line change. The puck landed in front of Eddie Mio, CC's outstanding goalie. It bounced a couple of times and went in over his glove. IIRC the Sioux won 3-2.
  20. Last night's win left me with a happy feeling all day today. Another win tonight would last me just about until next Friday. LET'S GO SIOUX!!!
  21. So you still get arrested some of the time??
  22. I guess that I am one who would somewhat go against the flow here. I don't know that I would give the outfit back, but I can certainly understand the feeling of disrespect by having a white person doing a Native American dance that has significance and meaning to the tribe. I support the Fighting Sioux name, but I am opposed to the use of "imitation" mascots such as at Illinois and Florida State. To me that is a major difference between UND and Illinois and Florida State. UND does not use a mascot. Maybe the tribe(s) would be willing to supply a Native American dancer, trained in the dance and fully aware of its significance. That could be an alternative. If Illinois decides to retire their chief, they could maybe put the outfit on display in a significant and respectful manner, with descriptions of the meaning of each of the components as well as a history of Illinois as the Illini. Just my two cents.
  23. Like a "Prpich" bump??
  24. Maybe what he means is that once MN has clinched the conference title, all of their games become meaningless (like third place games) and we know how the Gophers perform in those games.
  25. Maybe you need to check out the state pay scale. Gov't employees, even lawyers, do not make the kind of money that lawyers in private practice make. $50/hour would be just over $100k per year, probably close to the top salary in state government.
