  1. Why, who gives a rats behind. They hate us when we win, they give us when we we lose. I hope you don't mean what is on their blog would have any influence as to who our hockey coach is. I hate to break the news but even what is on this blog (even gfhockey with all his money) has no influence on who coaches hockey at UND. Too many people on these blogs are rubes like us who probably live in their mothers basement drinking Mountain Dew and getting that orange stuff from their Cheetos all over their keyboards blogging about how we should change coaches cuz they haven't been able buy a new national champ XXXXL t shirt to cover the old one that got pitted out reading the SI swimsuit issue.
  2. I meant 4 time champs. Anyway you and UND-FB-FAN share the opinion of most. There is nothing arrogant stating the past is past. Recognize what others have done and move on. Next years season hasn't even started. They are the "king" of the 2014-2015 season, not yet 2025-2016. Who cares what others wear? 20 years ago you didn't see all of the yellow and green here either. The Bison didn't get where they are by aspiring to get where UND was at that time. They wanted to get beyond that and they were successful. Many of their own supporters opposed their moves. Those were the ones who were more focused on where they had been and how UND was dominating them in FB. They had decision makers who took calculated risks and surpassed where we were. I am still of the opinion we need to quit focusing on them and their fans and pay closer attention to what we are doing and how we get back to championship performance in all sports. I'm not sure all of our decision makers are thinking along that same line. Our administration plans for enrollments of 20,000 in next few years. (I don't see it for 15 yrs) but if that is the case we need to be preparing now to move to whatever level best fits us as the NCAA changes the Div 1 make up. I guarantee you the Ag school decision makers are thinking ahead. By the time, we get to where they are, they will have moved on and some of us will still be frustrated waving a Sioux flag as the yellow and green parade goes by. If we focus on maximizing our own efforts and potential, the competition with them will take care of itself.
  3. They are the 3 time FCS champs and until someone knocks them off they remain the champs. I understand they are very good. I get your point and I believe it is not only valid but shared by the majority of bloggers. I hope we aspire to take this University and the athletic teams beyond what they do at the Ag School. I hope we aspire to much more than a "good showing" against them. My point is that if you want to be like someone else you waste time, resources, and energy when what we should really aspire to is maximizing our own potential. That puts us in a good position to be better than our competition and that includes the AC. I think our staff knows what we need to do to get there. We need time and resources and the right kids who could give a rats behind what they are doing in Fargo cuz we aspire to be National Champions. Don't kid yourself, when we dominated the Ag School, they weren't so noisy, but they don't tend to respect us whether we beat them or not. You are right in that is can be used as a measuring stick but I don't see it as anything more and I don't see it as pivotal.
  4. Not a theory. It's a culture change. Sicatoka has it right. Your philosophy is that we try and get to be competitive with the AC. But you have also crowned them king. My thought is that we have the mindset that what we do in the classroom, every set we do in the weight room, every sprint and drill in practice, every play in practice, every repetition is geared to maintain a culture and focus of nothing less than a maximum effort and success for what we are doing as a Sioux athlete. The goal is a national championship and the AC game will take care of itself. Right now they are the king of nothing except for those who revel in past glories. We make the future by what we do today. If you crown them king you may be beaten before you start.
  5. We need to move away from the mindset of comparing everything with the AC. Too many of you folks haven't noticed they no longer worry about us, they concern themselves about championships. Anyone who thinks beating the AC is the pivotal game is wrong. It's a rivalry game. Just like last years MBB. Anyone think that made our season? What was much more important was we made it to the conference championship game. Because we didn't win it the season was mediocre. Anyone think the Ag School folks think last year was anything other than a win in the NCAA tourney rather than a trouncing by the Sioux? A win against the AC is only good if you think it important to give their fans crap. It might shut some of them up but not many and not for long. The pivotal game is the game we are playing and until that is won the next game no matter who it is doesn't matter. Recruits will notice championships and playoffs. If we beat the AC and don't make playoffs it doesn't mean much.
  6. Don't do that. I'm ok with however tall he is. I think he will be a starter either this year or next. He was the best olineman in last years all star game and handled the 300 lb Ag school recruits almost every play he went up against them. Kid is a gamer.
  7. I mentioned him after he played in the all-star game last summer. He played both guard positions and handled to two big kids going to the Ag school. He is only about 5' 10" but who gives a rip. The only place that makes a difference is the game program, the media and blogs. This kid can play.
  8. I didn't say I would take one over the other. I said I'd take Mollberg any day if he is healthy. I didn't get to see Wentz play as a freshman and sophomore with an oline that was barely a speed bump. Didn't know we didn't go after Wentz. I don't watch the AC. I don't know who I would take if both were healthy with great supporting cast. I know Mollberg has a big time arm and is a great athlete. He can make all of the throws and is a tough kid. I believe same can be said about Wentz. Mollberg didn't complain or blame anyone else when things didn't go well. He came to UND with the idea he would help turn this program around. He passed up a chance to play at the AC so we don't know if he would be playing there or not had he gone there. I know he can also be a great FCS QB. I know Wentz won't be transferring so if you want him as your QB you are wearing the wrong colors. As bad as we have been the last couple of years, I don't believe you can judge any of our QBs fairly. I guess we will see. As the team gets better I think you may be surprised at how much better our QBs will seem.
  9. Jensen earned his starting role and was a great FCS QB. Wentz has earned his starting role and is a great FCS QB. What NDSU fans wanted is irrelevant. No one can say if the offense would have been better with him. I doubt it. The coaches play the guys they think give them the best chance to win. I think it is accurate to say they probably would have won with him at QB but they won it anyway. Wentz had a great year. He will get a shot to play in the NFL. You can't fairly compare him with Mollberg or Studsrud because he had such a strong supporting cast. If Mollberg is healthy and has an oline that can protect him I'll take him any day. It's not fair to comment on Studsrud yet.
  10. Read the article on Grant. They claim he couldn't recruit. That doesn't seem to be a problem with this staff. I believe the problem starts with lack of discipline. Poor free throw shooting, not boxing out on the boards, poor passing, poor team play and inconsistency are a product of lack of focus and lack of discipline. I had an interesting discussion before the hockey game Sat. Night with a long time Sioux fan and regular attendee at MBB and WBB for over 40 yrs. He noted that Jones hasn't done a good job of developing our big guys. Compare with Dave Gunther who developed his post players whether they were 6' 9" like Chuck Dodge in Gunther's early years through Lukens, Eaglestaff, an undersized John Thorpe, an undersized Don Gunhus, Clauson, Greulich and that continued later with Vonesh, Mustard after he retired. Jones was a big guy but plays a three guard system and doesn't develop his bigs. He also struggles with discipline games and practice with getting these guys to buy into what he is trying to do. If he isn't getting that done one of his assistants needs to step up. It will cost time and money to make the necessary changes to all programs. We need to pay not just the head coaches but also the assistants. The solution has got to involve the UND president, athletic director and the Alumni office to insure all teams are properly funded. Faison should be putting feelers out to gauge interest in the job and if he can find a replacement who is interested make the change. Talking to guys like Jacobson, McDermott, Phil Jackson to get names of guys who are on their way up and can coach would also be worth the time. Unless we have someone who can coach, recruit and has a bit of "wow factor" that will excite our players and this great class of recruits coming in to keep them here, I don't see anyone paying the money it will take to move Jones out. Change for the sake of change won't accomplish what should be our goal of building a mid major power that will contend for the conference title year in and year out and take a run past the first round of the dance every few years. It wasn't so many years ago UNI played in the NCC.
  11. This is from the students who aren't clever enough to yell anything but "who's he, he sucks sh.." during introductions and one of whom repeated the FSU QB quote during a moment of silence for a guys father who had passed away. A standing ovation from these folks means nothing. I'm not defending Kelley, but these clowns don't impress me.
  12. Ya think???
  13. Wait a minute. You don't really want to confuse folks with facts do you?
  14. No, he would have dealt with it face to face, man to man. Security had to take the sign, but they should have let the students stay. Mild distraction from a great hockey game
  15. He is doing well. Should be ready for summer workouts. Might be fine before end of spring ball but Therenis need to come back too soon . He spent a lot of time in film room last summer with Rudolph. I would expect same this summer and I would think he will be throwing before school is out. So far so good.
  16. Another prospect is Jon Richards kid from Detroit Lakes. Great kid great speed. Led a very good DL team to section semis. DL had one point loss to Warroad earlier in yr and got beat by EGF in section semis by a goal. That was no fluke. Kid scored over 60 pts and can skate with any of these kids. Only a junior. Still developing physically and will need a yr or two of juniors after hs.
  17. Kid needs to finish HS at Devils Lake. Then play juniors one or two years. The college coaches know who he is and where he is. Going to UND's summer camp (or other college camps) is the best exposure. Coaches get a closer look at who the kid is, his practice habits, leadership skills etc. Too many kids get sidetracked by misconceptions that they won't be discovered in their hometowns. They don't need to quit FB or soccer to play hockey in the fall and they don't need to leave hs to play juniors, before they graduate. In fact if they quit other sports to focus on just hockey the Mayo clinic researchers stated in November 2014 single sport athletes tend to peak at age 16-17 as opposed to age 20-22 for the kids who do multiple sports. Those kids also have more injuries. In case some of the beer league hockey guys think the Mayo Sports Med folks don't understand hockey, the dept. chair is Dr. Michael Stuart whose 3 sons played college and NHL hockey. Kid is a prospect and needs time to mature. If we want hs hockey to prosper let these kids grow emotionally, and socially with the kids who have been their teammates since mites and helped them get there.
  18. Dixon Bowen scored 2 goals.
  19. EGF still leads DL end of 2.
  20. Dixon Bowen scores to give EGF 3-2 lead.
  21. Detroit Lakes and East Grand Forks tied 2-2 near end of first period section 8 semis.
