  1. This is a very good class and that includes the PWO's. The four Canadian kids all have great upside. There isn't a top 5. This is a solid class with kids who have the potential to be very good at this level. The PWO's have nice upside. A lot of the kids in this signing class can play multiple positions and either side of the ball. That philosophy was used in past when 3-4 yrs after high school there were a lot of multiple sport athletes who had great upside and developed into very college players at positions other than what they played in high school. Sioux fb took big step with this group and this years transfers. Nice job by Bubba and staff.
  2. This kid is an FBS talent and a good kid and good student. He and Johannson the Fargo RB were best of N. Dak. kids.
  3. I assume you are kidding but that isn't true.
  4. That is Bullcrap. There are always guys who aren't starting or playing who complain but as a team these guys like the direction the team is headed and respect what Bubba and staff are doing. There are also usually an assistant coach or 2 that some of the kids don't like but haven't heard this is an issue.
  5. I think We are bringing together a very nice class. I wouldn't worry about the Ag School cuz we need to worry about ourselves. For what it is worth they have another strong class. They should, they are 4peats. So we got a couple this year they wanted. Doesn't matter as long as we get good kids. We want to get the area kids but those are also the kids most familiar with the AC recent success. I am not sure what the issue is with JC transfers or FBS transfers. Same as whether or not kids come from a bif school or small school If the kid can play, he can play. A big slow guy can excel against weaker competition so you always need to evaluate his foot quickness and athletic ability. When I saw the Ellefson kid play BB as a Soph I sent his name to Mussman's staff and sent his name to Bubba's staff a year ago. Although we never got around to offering him, he is a kid I would put down as one we lost to the ag school. He is 6' 2" and has great quickness and athletic ability. I would play him at LB and I think he will be every bit as good as Travis Beck. I would agree the Johansson kid was the top recruit in the area I think the Grady kid was next. Time will tell. The other area kids will need to deelop and a lot will depend on there work ethic and character and maturity. The Canadian kids are very good recruits and the Ag School offered one of them for those who like to compare. As far as PWO's, Schobert was a PWO for us and later for the Badgers. A scholarship would have landed him. The Hegg kid from the Ag School who I think will play in the NFL was a PWO. There are plenty of kids out there, who both school miss on and these are just two who will likely have NFL careers. Recruiting is a tough game. IT isn't just size and speed, but intelligence, Physical and emotional maturity, foot speed and the character of the kids. This years class is a very good one and for what it is worth, a very good one for the Ag school Whether or not one is better than the other doesn't matter. What mattes is what happens on the FB field next fall.
  6. Bartels should be back to normal. Mollberg out of his cast and rehabing. He might be ready for spring ball be shouldn't risk it. Simmons apparently still having trouble with his shoulder.
  7. No sense in listening to Brady who will tell you he is lucky to have Belichick. They have benefitted from each other. Anyone who doesn't recognize Belichick as an excellent coach I don't believe is being objective. I'm not a Patriots fan but the guy is a good coach with or without Brady. Every successful coach has great players. They are able to get the most out of them and make the good ones play their roles and as a team become great. Belichick has done that.
  8. What difference does it make? Hockey is a big deal to some folks and not to others. Who cares? FCS FB is a bid deal to some folks and not to others. Who cares? Neither are a big deal to most people. FBS, NFL, NHL, mean nothing to the very vast majority of people in the world. Who cares? If any of these sports are such a big deal that you would get upset cuz someone else doesn't think you are cool or your status in life is better cuz your hockey team wins a national title or FCS team wins 4 titles, than you are a sorry ass SOB and need to get a frickin life. Have fun with it and have fun with your family and friends but in the long run if it is any more important to you than that as a fan then your priorities are screwed up. This thread is entertaining to a point but then one has to feel sorry for folks who didn't play and have to live vicariously through the success of others. This same commentary could go on the fire Hak thread too I guess.
  9. They couldn't do much worse than they have been. Epstein will likely do more for the Cubs than the name. It already is start over time for us with our name and the sooner we move on, the better.
  10. Just like Hak did a lot of the recruiting for Blais. Hak is an excellent coach. Fans need to keep pressure on. Hak and the program to win the next title . He will do it. There is a reason he has earned the respect of his peers and the entire NHL community for his talents. He has this team playing well and we are again one of the top teams in the country. Amazing we have rubes calling for his head. Likely the same folks pressuring their local school boards to get a new coach cuz their kid doesn't get enough playing time. My expectations for the program is an annual trip to the frozen four and at least 2 more national titles in the next 8yrs. I think we have the coaching staff in place to accomplish this.
  11. Ask people with Marketing experience about the value of a brand/logo. We weren't the Fighting Sioux that was our name and logo. We were UND athletes and coaches who played for each other, our University and our fans. The new name will become the new tradition and become just as beloved as the Fighting Sioux name. You folks who keep harping that Kelly was brought here to retire the name have no clue. That was supposed to have been resolved before he got here and he didn't cause the problem. The problem started in the 1960's and over the years we as fans, the University, the tribes, the state and our communities sat on our collective rear ends and let this happen. Some of us lobbied politicians, athletic dept. officials, coach's, and. University administrators long before the NCAA stepped in to solidify the relationships with the tribes. Suggestions included putting student teachers on the reservations, having our grad students in psychology, social work, the health sciences etc. do rotations on the reservations. Having our coaches do coaches clinics and hold scrimmages on the reservations. Didn't get done. Don't tell me how important a name is. It isn't. It's only part of the tradition. You can wring your hands over the decision but quit blaming the wrong people. The name is gone. Pick almost anything reasonable and we will be fine. Keep the legislature out of it. They have messed it up enough. Quit pretending the name is sacred. It isn't and it wasn't that important to enough of our Native brethren to save it when it could have been saved. The Ben Brien logo was the coolest part of the Fighting Sioux name and I certainly wouldn't put it in the hands of people who do not have the best interest of the University as a priority. The voting is no longer relevant. Who cares what the results were. Pick a name and let's start focusing on what is in the best interest of the University and that would be a new name and logo.
  12. There is no reason for the legislature to continue to interfere in this issue. It does in fact hurt not to have a brand/logo. They need to the the University make the decision and stop trying to micromanage. Sioux logo and name is a dead issue. Too bad. Best part was the cool logo done by Brien but other than that it doesn't matter anymore. We need to move on and have Kelly focus on improving our facilities and support for athletics as well as marketing the University. If the legislature wants to cont. to interfere, they should appropriate the lost revenue dollars since they they have prevented us from moving on.
  13. I don't believe the problem is we aren't willing to invest in other sports, I think we need to raise the dollars to invest. I'm not sure we shouldn't be looking at Wisconsin where they have had a top rated MBB, FB and hockey all at the same time. I realize their hockey is down right now but it isn't because of inadequate facilities or support. The only tier the Ag school is tops is FCS FB. We should take note of that and what they have done well but we need to also look beyond our region and think "outside the box". We need to maximize our potential in all sports across the board. It will take an extra $1,000,000 per yr to take care of salaries alone. That is doable. The facilities are close to where we need to be. We need to do a better job of marketing our athletics and the University. Lots of room for improvement. FB, MBB, WBB and VB are making strides. MBB has some good kids added this year and signed for next year but we need improved performance as to follow.
  14. Won't happen. If UND wants change they need a new logo/brand and clothing will gradually change. Free speech trumps political correctness. UND officials need to focus on upgrading facilities and increasing financial support for our athletic programs. If they want to work on behavior buy a tee shirt that says " I'm a dumb ass " for everyone who yells "who's he he sucks sh.." When opponents are introduced. On second thought, anyone with an IQ above 80 knows that without seeing the tee shirt. Obviously one of my pet peeves and it's embarrassing to see our students aren't clever enough to come up with something better than that.
  15. Any administrator who says anything that stupid needs to resign or be fired. It will take someone with social skills, charisma and a vision to make this work. Other schools do it and I would keep comparing what we do with the Ag school. We need to maximize our own potential and then we won't have to worry about what others do.
  16. You are correct. We need to maintain our excellence in hockey and return our FB and BB to the same level of excellence and success. We haven't had a president since Clifford who recognized the impact of a successful intercollegiate athletic program to the rest of the University. It seems our AD and maybe our university leadership struggle with multitasking. Great hockey will benefit our other programs and success with our other programs will benefit hockey.
  17. No, a number of them have been generous with donations.
  18. You may be correct about Wentz, I'm not so sure he is better than Jensen yet let's see how much he improves next year. I realize you didn't have great depth at receiver but we had guys dropping the ball, running wrong routes and not attacking the ball. Put that with a running attack that was non existent most of the season and little time to throw and Wentz would have struggled too. I'm not saying either of our guys would have accomplished what Wentz did, but it think Wentz would have struggled here too. Obviously he wasn't here so it's a moot point.
  19. Wouldn't have started ahead of Hanson 3 yrs ago. Not sure he would have been starter here last 2 years. No way to compare. He continues to develop as a very good FCS QB. He is a big part of the Ag school success and he is an NFL prospect. He is a key piece of the puzzle and it is a great example of how important the team concept is to the success of the individual and how the success of the individual is to the team game. No criticism of the kid. He is very good. The guys here have not had the surrounding cast he has and fortunately for him he has had the chance to develop under Johnson who some argue is the best QB they have ever had, and also with a great oline, excellent RB's, and receivers and a defense that can make up for any mistakes which have been few for this kid. He has also had very good coaching. Not sure why anyone would criticize the kid. All he has done is win. Comparing him with our guys cuz can't be done. He would not have been a "great benefit to us" cuz he would not have had time to throw nor the running game he has nor the receivers this yr. He would have had great receivers here last yr but he wasn't here so no one knows.
  20. Both incomplete.
  21. No, same reasoning. Because he was " going to the ground" he has to control ball after hitting ground.
  22. Media ref says you forget steps cuz receiver going to ground so it was incomplete and good call. Didn't matter that he took 3 steps, Howie Long also said 3 steps and they said he had possession but he was going to ground so he has to control to ground which he didn't.
  23. I don't like Dex Bryant but he goes up and gets ball and took 3 steps, knee hit ground then lost control when he landed with hand out stretched. Might be I don't know how many steps necessary before you would be considered a ball carrier but I would have thought that was catch and if defender wasn't in contact, a fumble then recovered. First Fb game I remember watching was Packers Eagles early 60's and have been long time Packers fan but I think we got a break. Was Cowboys fan for 9 yrs when son in law with Cowboys but no matter who you like this is a great game.
  24. I was there and there were hundreds of empty seats. Seats are usually sold out but I was surprised at how many empty seats there were and have been for other games. It wouldn't surprise me for Niagra but I was surprised for this series. Those folks must have all gone to Frisco.
