  1. What there is to know isn't the issue of the proposed media policy. If that is what NDSU wants to do, that is their business. The issue is that Bresciani threw a subordinate under the bus trying to protect himself and made disparaging remarks about local media personalities and a guy who donated $1,000,000 to NDSU, then lied to the press about his involvement and knowledge of the entire issue and decision. I'm glad I never had to go to war with a coward like that. That is an egregious offense and he needs to resign. He has exposed himself as an arrogant clown who is willing to be untruthful to the public. If you don't want better for NDSU then I can't understand your motives for wanting to keep this guy. There are numerous qualified candidates who would love to have the job and would serve effectively and with honor. Bresciani isn't one of them.
  2. Sadly this a reflection of where we are as a society. Chapman and now Bresciani have a history of lying. The NDSU fans should demand he and Larson be fired. Not because of their proposed media policy but because as public employees and administrators at an institution of higher education they should be held to the basic standard of honesty when it comes to dealing with the public. If we can overlook the fact the Bresciani lied and Larson was willing to throw a subordinate employee under the bus, and that Larson as AD is willing to mislead the public then why should we expect them to be honest in their other dealings? Bresciani's disrespect for other media members and for the Forum Chair (who donated $1,000,000 to NDSU) is the epitome of arrogance and deceit. Can NDSU supporters really defend that? The school, community and state of North Dakota deserves better. Had they hired Dick Hanson (former Bison FB and former interim president who did a good job of cleaning up the Chapman mess), I doubt we would have this situation. There seems to be a pattern developing at NDSU that the end justifies the means. That is not and should never be acceptable at an institution of higher education. It seems as long as we have success in athletics the rest is forgiven. I guess if we can nominate presidential candidates who have repeatedly lied and made disparaging remarks to or about the mentally handicapped, police and the military and another who also can't keep his facts straight and makes disparaging remarks about women and minorities then we shouldn't expect any better from this arrogant clown.
  3. There is no reason for any kid anywhere to accept a preferred walk-on spot before their senior year. It does nothing for the kid and it may decrease the chance he will receive a scholarship from the offering school or from another school.
  4. Wentz has a lot more going for him than "numbers". He has character, work ethic and has demonstrated that when he plays against higher levels of competition he can play. It is a bigger step from College to the NFL than than FCS to FBS. Wentz is a rookie. Give him time, we will have to see. Same for Lynch. Same for any trade or draft choice. It is a crap shoot. There is a long list of can't miss prospects than never made it. The biggest issues for most of those those people were lack of character, lack of work ethic or for some, injuries.
  5. Years ago I was In charge of summer registration for incoming students. Freshmen and transfers would come to campus for a day and test out of Math, take foreign language placement tests, and listen to George Schubert, Dean of University College welcome students and tell parents don't let your kid have a car at college. You could register for school then but you could also register and sign up for your classes when school started. The problem was a lot of classes were full and you would end up taking Humanities, Philosophy, History of Jack Benny from Tweeton (that was a great course), and a couple of Phy Ed courses even if your major was accounting or Engineering. You could also take ROTC if you wanted to terrorize liberal English Professors and make them wet their pants. (Or is that only now). We often would walk over to Merrifield and ask Professor Lewis to add a couple of seats to English Comp etc. Some kids showed up on their own a few days after classes started sometimes and we would find a way to accommodate them. Dean Schubert liked to be personally involved with the hockey players but we did the same for any kid. That is what made us a great institution. It was about the students and making things work for them not what was easiest for us. Most Departments had a "go to professor" who would help us get kids into needed classes. When my kids registered it was similar. Hope it still is. When my other kid went to the U of Mn, she majored in Graphic Arts and when it was her turn to register none of her classes were available and no one would help her find credits. I hired 5 college students each summer to work with us. One of the students is now CEO of BWW.
  6. I'm sure the coaches know where Nick and his family are in this process. They have a great relationship with the players and I would bet that Nick consults with our coaches, his family and whomever his adviser is. If we are going to get players of his caliber we are going to have to live with the fact that many of them are going to move to the pro leagues early. Our coaching staff has dealt with similar situations in the past and will advise Nick, then support his decision. This is different than a recruit backing out in August. There is nothing "bush league" about a young man who has given fans a lot to cheer for these last 2 years, taking whatever time he needs to make one of the most important decisions in his life. The coaches can deal with this and have contingency plans for these situations. Fighting Sioux Hockey will be fine whatever Nick's decision is.
  7. On the NFL network they said he had only one scholarship offer, from North Dakota. They got it right.
  8. He has an NHL shot, wins face offs. He's tough. If he remains disciplined, and plays smart he can overcome what some think is lack of speed. He was able to be very effective against a lot of faster guys in college. As you move to the next level, there are more of those fast guys. The big guys are faster and the fast guys are bigger and tougher. How big is his heart? He will have to work harder and play smarter than the faster guys. It will be a challenge but I wouldn't say never. Good luck to the kid.
  9. He just realized he could have had a V8 with his Vodka.
  10. Kid made a couple of mistakes. Quinipiac band did play the war drum beat associated with Native Americans. He also doesn't know the difference between a mascot/logo/name. This guy is irrelevant. More important things to write about. For those of you who seem to struggle with which name, the hockey team settled that issue. Just call them National Champs.
  11. We don't need to. Sioux hockey team said it all.
  12. The Sioux win a national title and some of our fans have nothing better to do than criticize a kid who played hurt??? Are you kidding me? You have no idea what his injury was. If Anas had a recurrent shoulder dislocation, he may have been running back into the locker room to have the dislocation reduced so he could come back and play. (That hurts like hell by the way). That is a more likely than he was whining or crying. Gutsy performance on his part. You guys who post dumb stuff like that embarrass knowledgeable fans who appreciate the effort put forth by other teams and players. That is one of the reasons some opposing fans hate us. When you act like jackasses, especially when we win it shows a real lack of class. I bet none of the Sioux players or coaches criticize him.
  13. Yeah, I get that but I think there is money out here. Puts a damper on what should be great week of celebration for Sioux athletics and UND.
  14. Difficult to understand when there was no concerted effort to raise an extra $1,000,000 per yer to keep these programs going. I also would like to see more support from the $325,000,000 Spirit Campaign. I know a lot of those dollars are dedicated funds ,earmarked for programs and projects as directed by the donors. We shouldn't be waiting for phase 2 of the practice facility which is supposed to house sports medicine research. We shouldn't be struggling to keep up our coaches salaries nor funding for programs. You can't say the money isn't there if no one busts their butt to find it. Feel badly for the Sioux athletes and coaches. You don't do this to the Sioux family without a fight.
  15. Success of the hockey team certainly has a positive effect on FB as well as other sports and academic programs. Positive National exposure helps anything UND.
  16. Found a buyer. If deal falls though I will sell them for face value to Sioux fans. I will re-post if they are available.
  17. Not impressed with a teacher who claims to be worried about her students but cowers under her desk and can barely speak "initially from fear then from rage". Swearing at a fellow faculty member is not acceptable. She apologized. The conversation was private and her apology was private. That's ok with me. For her to say this type of training is inappropriate , unnecessary and irresponsible is worse than being goofy enough to call 911 and then to write a letter to the paper. These young men and women of ROTC are doing the necessary training that some day may allow them to complete their missions successfully and hopefully save lives of fellow soldiers and innocent civilians. The fact that she failed to read her notice that this would occur is her own fault. Didn't she know UND has Army ROTC? They weren't assaulting her office they were outside on the quad without real weapons. Maybe she should assess the situation before panicking. She demonstrated you can't count on her in a crisis. Why didn't she utilize this as an opportunity to teach both her students and others of how she felt and why and then maybe assign her students the task of interviewing those same ROTC students. They could find out more about ROTC and their training and why and how those students decided to join ROTC and what that means to their plans for the future and plans for their own families. If training our futures officers causes a closed minded professor to crawl under her desk, wet her grundies and tremble occasionally I guess that is a small sacrifice to our nation for the young warriors who place their own lives on hold and risk life and limb to serve our country. Moon Mullins who was a professor in the early 1970's used to jump out the window at Merrifield Hall then come back into the class and have the students write a paper about how they felt and what they thought. Maybe she could have her students write a poem about her trembling under her desk and peeing her pants. "There once was a professor from Grand Forks who......... She might get published.

    2016 Season

Good summary. I also think Asplin could be a very pleasant surprise. Staff does need to evaluate what we are doing to be proactive with high risk kids coming in. When they leave I would like most of them to talk about how this program saved them as opposed to trying to figure out whether or not they left because of a discipline issue, grades or disgruntled. I have no inside info on the most recent defections but it is a potential problem for every college program. We need to be a program where others look to UND and wonder how we are so successful with all kids rather than one that says everyone has the same problem. Same goes for MBB, VB and WBB.
  22. Do you still need lower bowl tix? I think I have 2 next to me. Sec. 102 row R.  I paid just under $500 last week on Stub hub.

  23. Good to see someone remembered Pollard. Fritz Pollard was an All-American FB player who had tied the world record in the high hurdles. He won a bronze medal in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. He did this as a young black man who overcame the barriers faced by a young black athlete here and in Nazi Germany. He also overcame the disadvantage of running track in a cold weather climate when we didn't have an indoor track facility. I sat next to him at a UND alumni dinner years ago that I attended with my Dad. Fritz was a class act. He talked about his the barriers they faced having meals and staying at hotels as they traveled to away games. He talked about how Coach Jack West and his teammates supported him and left restaurants that wouldn't let them dine together as a team. Intelligent, articulate, classy gentleman. Ranks with the best. I also had lunch with his Olympic teammate Jesse Owens when he spoke at N. Dak. Boys State when I was. Boys State Counselor. Jesse Owens is the only autograph I have ever kept. Wish I would have gotten Fritz Pollard's. Humbling experience both times. Makes this discussion seem a bit silly. The fact these guys did great things or that Roger Maris did great things doesn't lessen the accomplishments of Wentz. What an athlete does or doesn't do doesn't make fans any better or worse. The fans are spectators just like the media guys. As fans or media folks we haven't done great things. The athletes do. Don't make us look bad by whining about the attention the guy gets. Wentz has earned the respect and attention he is getting. If you can't see he is the real deal then I don't think you know FB. Wish him the best and support our own teams so we can get better. Ignore the losers who seem to think the accomplishments of athletes or athletic teams somehow make them better than they are and waste time coming on another schools blog to gloat. On to Tampa. Go Hawks.
  24. Don't let that happen, she would never come out from under her desk.
