  1. I first joked about the name Dakotans, partly because I didn't think it would pass muster with the NCAA, but I think 82SiouxGuy is right. Also, it wouldn't be Dakota, it would be Dakotans, as in the state not the tribe. Dakotans would also tie the past with the present per my earlier post. With yesterdays announcement that most of the imagery will be allowed to stay at the Ralph and Betty, all the more reason to tie the new moniker in with the old one. I think Dakotans would do that. With UND being the only school in the Big Sky and the only Dakota school playing hockey, it would identify UND as the school of the Dakotas. To add to that, if you look back with more historical perspective,Dakota Territory took in a large part of Montana. If Dakotans is found to be too bland, an adjective could be added, Fighting Dakotans or Mighty Dakotans. I kind of like just Dakotans. One of the metrics that I have used in the quest for a new nickname, is how easy is it to alter for jokes. Norse...Nurses and Roughriders would be a constant joke, due to the condoms. Although North Dakota Dakotans is somewhat redundant, it isn't easy to be made sport of. I think there are a lot of opportunities for logos. The Nokota horse could be used. An old west type cowboy.. Putting DAKOTANS on the front of a jersey, would claim the territory for North Dakota.
  2. I knew this would happen sooner or later. If you don't choose a name, one will be chosen for you.... 5. North Dakota (6)---The "Dakotans" (easy to call them that as they are the only Dakota school in the conference) took to the road last week and got a tough road win at Sacramento State. They are appearing to be as tough away from home as at home. This week they stay home and play Cal Poly. Not that the NCAA would let this stand anyway.
  3. Princeton Review has their top colleges list for 2013 out.... http://www.princeton...nkingsbest.aspx UND and USD are on the list of 377. I didn't know that USD went by "The" University of South Dakota, rather than University of South Dakota.
  4. OUR OPINION: Gifts bring gusher of opportunities to UND
  5. I read where this is a record donation for UND from a non-alum.
  6. Didn't know that. The Petroleum Engineering program at NDSU officially began in the fall of 1986. Student enrolled in the program took core courses in petroleum engineering along with courses in chemistry, engineering, geology, mathematics, and physics. Due to State budget cuts, Petroleum Engineering program was discontinued in 1995.
  7. I am currently reading "University of the Northern Plains", which is a history of the first 75 years of UND. In his farewell address in 1953 President West said... Thanks Mr. Hamm for helping the University to realize its goals.
  8. Wow, that is major. Big thanks to Harold Hamm!!
  9. Could be Aerospace related... UAS.
  10. http://www.grandfork...group/homepage/ Teeder is too quick for me.
  11. I hope the Grand Forks media pumps this game all week. UND needs a strong presence in the Alerus. A nice loud crowd may make a huge difference.
  12. I think Faison and Hakstol have the guys attention.
  13. Hmm, NDSU could have suspended players for the Robert Morris game, they could for the Prairieview game.... but they didn't. I'm just hoping that UND wins in spite of the suspensions, as the travel to Anchorage isn't easy and made worse by not having some of the top players.
  14. Why should it matter how good of a team NDSU is? Doing the right thing shouldn't depend on that. That is NDSU's fault, not the media. Could it be it was that Faison handled things correctly as opposed to the inept Taylor? I don't care one way or the other on this one.
  15. I have been all over the place on this issue, but always seem to come back to somehow tieing North Dakota's past to the present. Names that could do that.. Roughriders. Cavalry Wild Nokotas Outlaws. Explorers
  16. As opposed to football players admitting to forging documents and the AD saying they have suffered enough and there will be no suspensions? Faison > Taylor. Your prez, ad and coach botched it.
  17. How about the Kurt Warner story. From bagging groceries to Arena Football to the NFL. When Trent Green went down Rams fans thought the season was over. Warner took them to a Superbowl victory.
  18. I think we now know why Bradley left. Last year he came into the fall as the starter. This year he was likely the #3 and didn't think he would see the field much this year. With a couple of young guns coming up next year, he wouldn't have seen the field then either.
  19. Found some additional info dating back to 1995... http://und.edu/dept/.../enrcollege.htm 2012 * 15,250 2011 * 14,697 2010 * 14,194 2009 * 13,172 2008 * 12,748 2007 * 12,559 2006 * 12,954 2005 * 12,834 2004 * 13,187 2003 * 13,034 2002 * 12,423 2001 * 11,764 2000 * 11,031 1999 * 10,590 1998 * 10,369 1997 * 10,363 1996 * 11,274 1995 * 11,486 You're right UND did have to crawl back from the 1997 flood. It took until 2001 for UND to get back to pre-flood numbers.
  20. Vees' Murphy commits to North Dakota
  21. Some breakdown of the numbers...UND enrollment sets another record at 15,250; number of new freshmen a contributing factor
