What a difference a couple of years makes. It wasn't that long ago when UND was in search of a conference and had difficulty filling out a football schedule. Now I read some of the Summit boards and some are saying they really need UND (for baseball at the very least), some saying they don't need anybody and that every thing is fine (head in the sand) and still another who says UND can be called up whenever Douple feels like it. When UND was added to the WAC, some on the WAC board questioned why they would take UND. A couple of guys, supposedly in the know, said that it was a strategic move against the Summit. So where the Summit failed, the WAC moved in. UND has presently has a place for all of its teams. It took a lot of work to put that together over the past few years. I don't think Faison/Kelley will simply come running to the Summit because Douple makes a phone call, especially after Douple had the opportunity last year and blew it. Reading over what Fullerton had to say in Tom Miller's piece over the weekend, I like where UND has positioned itself with the Big Sky.... ... http://www.grandfork...icle/id/262923/ -

When UND joined the Big Sky, Men's tennis had to be added. I don't believe that FU has either men's or women's tennis. On the other hand SDSU already offers both of those sports. Maybe SDSU should be the BIg Sky target. -

First thing that came to my mind..... Chump don't want no help, chump don't get no help. -
UND split with UTPA today, taking 3 of 4 for the series. Nice to play at home for a change.

Both the UND Medical and Law schools will see some new facilities in the bill approved by the House and Senate. Higher education budget, funding formula passes From the GF Herald story, the Medical School will get part of the funding in this biennium and the remainder in the next through a loan. ....Higher education budget comes with message: Keep tuition down | Grand Forks Herald | Grand Forks, North Dakota From the proposed plans that I have seen, the campus along Columbia Road will look completely different in 5 years.

No one is really impacted when Eastern Michigan averages less than 15,000 per game, except Eastern Michigan. When a conference fails to meet the NCAA requirements there is an auto-bid involved. That bid could go somewhere else and there is an impact. I have read the postings where there is a grace period if a conference falls under 6 teams, but have not seen where it says that if you fall to 4 teams the grace period is gone. Can someone point me to that? -
No can do. UND is not part of the Dakota Big 3. It might upset some cosmic plan. Besides, the Summit doesn't have Big Sky TV.

So knowing that UND was looking for a place to park baseball, he is either inept for not approaching UND or his bitterness clouds what is best for the conference. Either way it doesn't look good for Douple. Conference membership isn't a one size fits all. The dynamics change from school to school. 89Rabbit posted an alumni map on the sdsufans forum showing that their alumni base is to their east, more so than west. Although I have not seen a UND alumni map, I have heard that UND, other than North Dakota and Minnesota, is more west than east. When the MVC was looking for a new member recently, I posted on another board that SDSU would be the best of the Dakota schools to be chosen due to their location and being more "basketball first" than the other Dakota schools. Of course Lakes blasted it, but that shouldn't surprise anyone. I still say that the BIg Sky is the best conference for UND, as an FCS school.

http://www.brewcityb...-hopefully-more I wonder who the others are? Siouxfan is saying Robert Morris, Belmont and Northern Kentucky... http://csnbbs.com/sh...d=631333&page=3 I read somewhere that Belmont told the Horizon, no. I can't remember where, as there so much info out there. Edit... Man, I was beaten to the punch by seconds.

I have been reading blurbs about Oakland and possible others heading to the Horizon for the past few months. Along with that there is conversation on various fan boards about possible new members to the Summit to cover the loss of Oakand and maybe others. I am still surprised to see how many think that UND should join the Summit. Gaining entry into the Summit League is similar to getting your first job out of college. You are excited to be chosen the first few days, but then you are already looking for the door out to a better opportunity. The Big Sky is a destination conference that has not had near the turnover rate the Summit has. The Big Sky has football, whereas UND would have to gain entry into the MVFC to make the Summit decision work. The Big Sky, at this point, is stable, unlike the Summit. Why would UND want to take a step down in conferences and join a shaky conference?

I would have loved having Wilmer back for one more year. He really came into his own by the end of the season.

And we should have a national database for all of these background checks, so one day it will be real easy to pull out a list and say give us your guns.
