Road to new nickname at UND has changed several times No wonder the youth of today are not taught logic or critical thinking. The education system doesn't know what it is.

I was in GF for a long weekend and talked to several people about the nickname. The owner of one downtown establishment told me that his unofficial survey of the people who came into his establishment was that Fighting Hawks was the clear choice. I talked to my cousin and he said both of his kids were voting for Fighting Hawks. Another friend asked me if I had seen the cool Fighting Hawk logo. She hadn't seen it, but heard about it. I pulled up the image off the internet and she said that she liked that one a lot. Fighting Hawks seems to be the choice of the young and the ones who like the cool logo, not that UND can use that logo anyway. According to the GFH piece this morning, the 50% majority rule is gone. A while back when the process was being discussed, I brought up the Louisiana "jungle primary", where is wide open to all of the candidates. If no one gets greater than 50% a run-off is held. In the 2014 election Mary Landrieu got the most votes in the jungle primary, but when the final election was held, she got clobbered, because there were two strong candidates from the other party that took each others votes during the jungle primary. The rules were set for this election. If no name got more than 50% of the vote, there would be a run-off between the top 2. To change the rules after the fact, is a farce. If you are going to go forward with this sham, you better plan to have a third vote, if there isn't a name that gets the 50%. Man, this group could mess up a one car parade.

I predicted here back in March. I'm sticking with my prediction. I could live with either Nodaks or Roughriders, though.

From the UC Davis board GDT in reference to Ratelle... "There is no getting by Area 51 for UND."

UND fall enrollment ticks higher; third largest in school history: 14,951

Wayne Nelson wrote a piece this morning about how he is going to vote next month and he pointed back to Fritz Pollard in 1936 when he won a bronze medal in the Berlin Olympics. After the Olympics, he came back to UND, the Nodaks.

Vote on your final 5 nickname choices (just ND is out)

I had a friend ask me last night if North Dakota had picked a new nickname. I gave him the rundown and told him the 5 names under consideration. When I mentioned Sundogs, he said "What is that" When I explained it to him he shook his head. The only that he liked was Rough Riders, which he thought was pretty cool and had a lot of possibilities. He then told me that there was a historical marker downtown (Pensacola) with Rough Riders on it. I had a meeting downtown today anyway, so I took a picture. -
This one is just getting started.

This is unpossible (Ralph Wiggums word). I read in another thread where UND was in financial difficulties. -
The box score shows 4 fumbles with 3 of them lost. I thought there were more than 4 fumbles.

Correct me if I am wrong, as I don't know a whole lot about coaching or defenses. Is it true that both Wyoming and NDSU play the same type defense, Tampa two? If so I would think the majority of the practice to date for UND's offense would be against that type of defense being that their two toughest opponents in the first three games run it. That does not excuse the fumbles or penalties, but may explain why the running game wasn't firing yesterday. Also, Drake came to play. Hats off to them.

I didn't care for the matte helmets the first time I saw them. They have grown on me.. Nice look with white uniforms.

I still say UND Arrows beats all of the remaining choices. Too bad one person made the call that Arrows = Native American imagery. -
So UND is now offering FCOA. Did NDSU build a new IPF since last week? I think we all know the answer to that one.
-
Unless I have missed something, only two FCS schools have announced that they are moving forward with FCOA, Liberty and NDSU, who just announced last week and won't take effect until 2016. Yes, it was wake-up call, but I don't think there is cause for pants wetting just yet. They likely have the numbers in front of them and are now figuring out where the money is going to come from. Perhaps someone or multiple folks with some deep pockets are in touch with the athletic department with donations and perhaps cuts will need to be made. The Athletic Department will figure it out and UND will offer FCOA.

Hey, that hurts, I live in Florida. Thankfully not in Palm Beach County, though.

Exit polling fail.

To add to the discussion regarding swimming and diving. Back when UND was doing assessments regarding the transition to Division I, there was a matrix of needs and wants. One of the wants was for the replacement of the Hyslop pool by 2015. The pool was okay by Division II standards, but there was a $10M price tag to upgrade for Division I. What is the current condition of the pool?
