  1. Chewey, disparaging Tim O'Keefe, UND graduate, UND mens hockey letterwinner, member of a family of four generations of UND athleetes, really doesn't make your case. If Tim's mind has been changed on the subject, I'd recommend you look into what it took to change the mind of the man to sat behind the UND mens hockey color commentary radio mike, at SCSU after they announced their campus ban of the world "Sioux", and said, "Fighting Sioux. FIghting Sioux! Fighting SIOUX!" live, on air, in the SCSU press box, in front of their "hall monitors". If he's changed his mind on the subject, please, go ask him why and quit with the other non-sense because it makes you look somewhere between petty and foolish (and you're neither).
  2. Do the most prestigious schools in the world, schools that don't need athletics because of their academics, still have intercollegiate athletics? http://www.timeshigh...n-rankings.html The Top Ten Most Prestigious and their athletics affiliations: Harvard - NCAA DI MIT - NCAA DIII Cambridge - http://www.sport.cam...work/index.html UC Berkeley - NCAA DI Stanford - NCAA DI Oxford College - http://www.sport.ox.ac.uk/ Princeton - NCAA DI U of Tokyo - http://peak.c.u-toky...e/s-and-aa.html <-- there are dudes in football helmets in that picture! Yale - NCAA DI Cal Tech - NCAA DIII
  3. My sources have acquired DaveK's appearance on "Weekend Update" host by Dennis Miller, however, they had to transfer it from VHS to DVD (but couldn't find a way to increase the resolution to HDTV). That's how DaveK wanted it recorded, and he liked it that way.
  4. I advocate capital punishment for unruly students. (No, that's not a typo or a malapropism. )
  5. No, what he's saying is that you market to the target audience. A significant fraction of incoming freshmen, good or bad, right or wrong, look at athletics (either to play or attend) as an important factor in their college selection process.
  6. With what? The State of ND filed suit for UND in state court. That got us the settlement agreement (that SR intentionally let die). Spirit Lake tried a Federal case that got tossed for lack of standing. So the State has no recourse against the NCAA (because the settlement included giving up the right to re-file the case). The supportive Tribe has no Federal recourse apparently. And the ND Congressional delegation was, is, and surely will continue to be MIA. What do you propose to fight with or even appeal to? (Hint: As much as you'd probably like to say it, "Starfleet Command" is not an option.)
  7. I see the fatigue camp voting to make it go away.
  8. I suspect there is more nickname fatigue out there than many of us realize.
  9. Would Ralph Engelstad been able to make the donations he's made to the Chester Fritz Library collections* (General Patton's papers from WWI, worth millions) if it hadn't have been for a hockey scholarship to UND and his UND education in business? *I intentionally avoided his other donations to UND.
  10. So you were never a fan of North Dakota Football.
  11. Functional? Yes. However, the new, tighter cut jerseys are both functional and more efficient. What's efficient mean for a jersey? For the backs and receivers it's less to be grabbed by. For the defensive linemen, it's less to be grabbed and held by.
  12. If the conference is bad in non-conference play that "opponent's opponent's" number takes a hit and hurts the conference overall. The WCHA had that problem somewhat this past season.
  13. Indulge me for a few moments here while I go back to the conversation earlier in this thread about "modest sanctions". Some asked if that was like sorta dead or kinda pregnant. Thinking more about it I think it better compares to "modest torture": We'll just put bamboo under the fingernails, pull out a couple molars with a pliers, and open a couple deep cuts and rub in some dog crap; it's just modest torture. It's not like we're attaching live jumper cables to the scrotal sac or anything.
  14. The formula is the same for all teams.
  15. UND teams have had other nicknames. There's "Flickertails", there are the old MBB jerseys that said "NODAKS" on the front ...
  16. RPI is based on three factors: Your winning percentage Your opponent's winning percentage Your opponent's opponent's winning percentage The 25/50/25 is the weighting given to each in the calculation of your RPI.
  17. As Judge Erickson asked Soderstrom, just because the name is given does it force UND to use it? When Soderstrom couldn't answer 'yes' that surely didn't help his case.
  18. Who had "Johnboy" and "under 10 minutes" in the pool?
  19. That may be, but he appeared far out of his depth in Judge Erickson's court room.
  20. Is Dane Jackson ready for an expanded role as a top assistant? That too plays into this whole process for Hakstol.
  21. It's official: SJSU and Utah State to Mountain West. http://www.themwc.com/genrel/050412aag.html Idaho is on an island.
  22. All they were doing was the "public declaration". They were there to talk to local media in Fargo, Bismarck, Minot, and Grand Forks and let the media move the message for them. They weren't there to host a pep rally. How do I know this? Was there coffee, punch, and cookies? Free pom-poms for the kids?
  23. I believe Brad Berry's wife's family is in Grand Forks.
  24. </ sad violin music>
  25. What you just said is, "Who cares who was there?" to which I say, "You missed my exact same point."
