  1. One plays hockey.
  2. http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/education/4118652-und-athletics-committee-asks-scenarios-involving-sport-cuts Three? Really? Three? Summit. MVFC. Would they count the BSC as a third they've "been in contact" with? That really doesn't make sense to say it that way, does it. So what's the third? In this case, I suspect "new" means "different".
  3. I can't prove it (because I'm not sure) but I believe this is the meeting/press release. It is from the first Monday after Sep 8 so it fits. http://news.umt.edu/2016/09/091516griz.php
  4. Know the law people. In Minnesota, a facility can post as a "gun free zone"; however, ... Source: http://jux.law/firearms-in-minnesota-prohibited-locations/ Basically, they can post the sign but you're not in violation until they ask you to leave and you don't. Personally, I don't push that approach; I just go down the street and spend my money somewhere else. (As always, if you are carrying you'd better be doing so legally or I can't support you.)
  5. Under the heading of "things that make me smile" ... The St. Cloud Stabber crossed paths with an off-duty cop ... but not just any off-duty cop. His name is Jason Falconer. I joke that I can out shoot most LEOs on the range. Uh, I'm pretty sure that would not be the case with Mr. Falconer.
  6. It's called "trolling". They're still bitter about last year in Grand Forks.
  7. Europe is the all the Euros who aren't Swedes, Finns, Ruskies, or Czechs. Add in US, Canada, and NorAm and there's your eight. Europe Roster: Forwards: Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, Philadelphia Flyers (France); Mikkel Boedker, Colorado Avalanche (Denmark); Leon Draisaitl, Edmonton Oilers (Germany); Marian Gaborik, Los Angeles Kings (Slovakia); Jannik Hansen, Vancouver Canucks (Denmark); Marian Hossa, Chicago Blackhawks (Slovakia); Anze Kopitar, Los Angeles Kings (Slovenia); Nino Niederreiter, Minnesota Wild (Switzerland); Frans Nielsen, New York Islanders (Denmark); Tobias Rieder, Arizona Coyotes (Germany); Tomas Tatar, Detroit Red Wings (Slovakia); Thomas Vanek, Minnesota Wild (Austria); Mats Zuccarello, New York Rangers (Norway) Defensemen: Zdeno Chara, Boston Bruins (Slovakia); Christian Ehrhoff, Chicago Blackhawks (Germany); Roman Josi, Nashville Predators (Switzerland); Dennis Seidenberg, Boston Bruins (Germany); Andrej Sekera, Edmonton Oilers (Slovakia); Luca Sbisa, Vancouver Canucks (Switzerland); Mark Streit, Philadelphia Flyers (Switzerland) Goalies: Frederik Andersen, Anaheim Ducks (Denmark); Thomas Greiss, New York Islanders (Germany); Jaroslav Halak, New York Islanders (Slovakia)
  8. When is a W not a W?
  9. I have no problem being a road dog under 3 points.
  10. Well I'll be ... just brought up the ol' channel guide on the Midco DVR and there it is big as life: UND at Montana State, Saturday at 3 pm Central. Did Midco maybe give last year's feed to the MSU folks and this is the return? Midco isn't getting it from Root Sports because they are covering Montana at Cal Poly this week.
  11. I looked at the box for the USD game. Who'd UND throw to? 81, 11, 31, 22, 88, and 34. Hidden in there are my 11 and 12 personnel packages.
  12. Hey, I'm still playing in Week 3 of the "USCHO Losers Pool" contest* courtesy the Dolphins and 49ers. *It's like pick-to-click, but you have to pick an NFL team to lose that week.
  13. One more train of thought: I understand the run on 1st down mentality, namely, shorten the game. That running play gets the game clock moving. But, if you go three and out (because you've set up 3rd and 8), you've actually hurt yourself in that you've (a) put your defense back on the field, and (b) shortchanged yourself for time later if you fall behind. In the perfect world, you get five yards on first down and the clock is moving. Much goodness comes from that combination. Your odds of a first down go way up. And the clock is moving (the original, shorten the game goal). From the reading I've done, when you are 1st and 10 the stats say you should get a first down 66% of the time. The stats also say you are 66% likely to get a first down if you are 2nd and 5 (better if 2nd and 4; worse if 2nd and 6 or more). Hang on ... I'm going somewhere with this. We don't have Georges; we have an offensive line that is a work in progress; we have a mobile quarterback, and a decent group of underneath receivers and TEs. But every team with video out there knows the run is coming on first down. Hand off Santiago on 1st and 10 becomes 2nd and 9. First down odds drop way off. Why aren't we doing more short/intermediate passing on 1st and 10? Put an 11 or 12 package out there, use the TEs and have the WRs who are best at the underneath routes run the short-range stuff. To me if UND lined up an 11 package of 22, 88*, and 11, 31, and 81 on first down that's a mess to have to try to cover. *Why 88? Because the redshirt is off, he's big and has the right body, and he can catch over the middle
  14. What I learned this weekend: - The offensive line still needs a lot of work. 2nd and goal at the 1 foot line in the 2nd OT, to win, and no push? So goes the offensive line, so goes the season. - There's a play USD needs to take out of their play book. It was good for 14 point ... for UND's defense. Their QB can not make that throw. Just ask 8 and 19. - The first two losses are on me. Why? I wore my new Fighting Hawks hat all day Saturday and UND won. I didn't wear it for SBU or BGSU.
  15. This is why college football needs to adopt the two minute warning in the second half. Announce it then.
  16. Now, now, now. Let's not have spurious accusations of where the St. Cloud Stabber used to live. Let's document it via press reports: http://www.inforum.com/news/crime/4118034-st-cloud-mall-attack-suspect-previously-lived-fargo
  17. As soon as you subsidize athletics via any mechanism (student fees, university funds) in reality you're running deficit because you're not able to self-sustain. What's that mean? Everyone is running a deficit save for maybe a handful of the biggest of the biggest in FBS.
  18. And maybe end up with something like this? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forsyth_Barr_Stadium As far as AC costs, those panels are "inflated" (air between the three film layers). I wonder if you could use argon gas for better insulation. The film itself stops UV. The key would be stopping more of the IR. (I think they're working on that.)
  19. They seem nice ... http://kfgo.com/news/articles/2016/sep/15/online-threats-made-to-law-enforcement-others-associated-with-pipeline/ On a scale of "one to stupid" making threats against the POTUS is full "nailed it". KFGO also said this morning that the locals don't feel safe. They wouldn't speak to KFGO News on the record, but a couple local farmers have stated that they are "armed" all the time now and they never used to be and they worry about the safety of their kids (especially going to and from school).
  20. No. He's merely a knight in the court of the pipe shot king: Jason Notermann
  21. Is that all? In know folks that attended seven of the Ugly Eight*. (Not sure I know anyone eight for eight.) *Albany, Columbus, Milwaukee, St. Louis, Denver, St. Paul, Philadelphia, Boston
  22. I worry for Mr. Wentz because the Philly offensive line let Cleveland's defense get four nasty shots on him. Imagine what a better pass rush may bring.
  23. Random factoid, surely nothing to do with the pictures above: In the NFL, hair that extends outside the helmet is considered a uniform extension and is allowable to be grabbed to make a tackle. Not sure about the NCAA rules. (It was legal to grab in 2013.)
  24. And at Homecoming people will complain about "changing school colors" because they won't be in green. Any takers?
