Goon
It didn't take long to pull the plug on the coach. I would hope Blaiser gets a chance.

Diggler
Blais is now a scout or something like that I thought for the Jackets.
bincitysioux
Blais is now a scout or something like that I thought for the Jackets. Yeah, I thought too that he was "off the bench" this season.
AZSIOUX
Blais is now a scout or something like that I thought for the Jackets. he is the player personel coordinator, he may be the right guy for the job being the associate last season. http://www.bluejackets.com/team/hockeydept/scouting.php

Smoggy
I'm really curious to see what Dean does. I would think that he still wants to coach. It's gonna be tough for him to get back into the NHL, but I bet a bunch of college programs would love for him to come back to the college ranks. AZSIOUX
He might not be interested anymore. i bet he is, they named a interim coach today and will be looking to full this position im assuming very soon. blais would be a great choice!! redwing77
They named the associate head coach to the position of interim head coach. I don't know if Blais will get a shot at the head coach position but who knows. I just hope he's successful regardless of what happens. You're correct, but something happened last year to force him off the bench. That's gotta make it tough to get back on someone's bench. Keep in mind that he has only one year as an assistant in the NHL. What was supposed to be his first was the lock out year.

petey23
It's all timing. Blais and Gallant did not see eye to eye and Gallant was given full reign this year without Dean in his shadow and he did not get it done. Hiring the associate is the least disruptive for the team at this point. If he succeeds he could keep the job, if not look for Blais to take over. jloos
Wasn't it his wife that was sick (and sadly passed on?) His wife passed away from ALS during the lockout. His daughter had cancer while he was coaching the Sioux. Neither of these had anything to do with him not being on the bench this year. DMT
Blais was on Bernie Burgraff's radio show last weekend. He said all of his focus is on player development. Bernie asked if he would go back to coaching college and Dean said he would sit down at the end of the year and evaluate everything. On a side note: Bernie and him talked about NCAA vs. CHL. They had an idea that when an NHL club takes a college player early, the NHL club pays the college the equivalent of the left over scholarship. They said that when a NHL club signs a major junior player early, they have to pay $100,000 to the MJ club. Blais said that the NCAA has to do something to combat the CHL. He hates seeing coaches have to recruit 14, 15, 16 year old kids.
Tsiouxnami
I read on TSN this morning that Columbus has asked Philadelphia for permission to interview Ken Hitchcock and that permission has been granted. It was also stated that the team owner and his son are expected to hire a permanent coach "fairly quickly".
ScottM
I don't see Blais spending much more time on the sidelines, or as a head coach in the NHL in the near term. I think he could end up with some organization like USA Hockey, or one of the junior leagues, possibly as a coach or GM.
