As a MN Wild fan I care much more about Brock Faber's success than Sanderson's.

To each their own, but I pull for NHL teams because they have UND players, and against ones with former rivals.  Big Ottawa fan currently.

As a kid I was an Oklahoma football fan (born there), so I became a Browns fan when Greg Pruitt went there, then pulled for the Lions and Billy Sims.  Etc.

I'm with you JK.  In a world of free agency, its players vs team to me in the NHL

I sure hope we are in on him. I've read quite a few scouts believe he has the most upside of any of these D men including Reid. I have this weird feeling he might be the other DU silent commit which would just be gross!

DU already has Macbeath & Lin...if they get Rudolph (or DuPont) as well...that's just insanity.

Yes.  Not that Switzer was an admirable guy, but they churned out the tailbacks in those days.  Fun archaic offense.

I'd trade those guys for another NC.  It's all about building a National Championship team, not about bringing in guys we can watch in the NHL after they leave.  It would be nice to do both, but the ultimate goal is plan and simple build a national championship team.

As a person who intensely dislikes the Wild, I care much more about Jake Sanderson and any UND players in the pros than Brock Faber or any other former Gopher player. Why would you cheer for the Wild and dislike the Gophers? It's the same fans

I’m a UND fan above all else and other fandom is minuscule in comparison. That being said, I live in MN and am definitely a wild fan. It’s weird to suggest you can’t like the wild and dislike the gophers at the same time. Once the Wild are out, I’m pulling for any team with UND guys no matter what. Heck I grew up hating the Avalanche but if the Wild are done, I’m all in for Hak and Nelson.

PS me and my kids will never be buying Faber gear as a rule d/t the gopher connection but we will cheer him on if it means the Wild are winning.

Seems like an odd take.  As a graduate of E. Grand forks I grew up hating Warroad, but sure enjoyed watching Oshie and Nelson while they were at UND.  I'm wondering, do you take a poll of fans of all teams you cheer for to see who there favorite College hockey team is.  Can someone cheer on the Vikings or Twins, as a good chunk of there fans are Gopher fans.  As someone that can't stand NDSU, I can't imaging not cheering for UND hockey because there are a lot of NDSU Football fans that cheer for UND Hockey.   How do you handle when a former UND players is playing on the same team as a former gopher player?  I'm assuming the 1980 USA gold medal winning team was/is devastating for you with all the gopher players on that team.   I'm guessing it was a tough time for you when Blais was the coach, former Gopher and all.

I don't dislike Gophers players at all and don't dislike teams that have Gophers players, but I don't like the Wild. Even with Parise on the team (one of my all time favorite UND players), I could not cheer for the Wild. Kevin Gorg and those ugly colors are enough reason to dislike the Wild, but Minnesota professional sports fans in general are the most annoying.

I'm confused because if a team has Gopher players on it I'm guessing there are Gopher fans cheering for that team.  If Gopher fans cheer for a team we must dislike them.

Cheer for whoever you want, but disliking a team based on what college hockey team they cheer for is odd to me.

I love the Wild and despise the gophers. I don’t see a problem with that

Nolan Fitzhenry recently followed the UND Hockey official account…

Good catch. It must’ve been in the last couple of days. There were a few rumblings on here a few days ago and he did not follow UND hockey at that time.

Wonder if this will end up being a Minnesota, North Dakota, Michigan recruiting battle

I’m really hoping we get Carels…or crazier yet DuPont. I do think Carels may help the team more next year though. If neither, Chyz needs to find two more really solid dmen. We seem to have our goalies, PP QBs (Verhoeff/Laurila), and skilled forwards. It seems pretty clear who our PP guys will be. The rest of the guys will chip in offensively and are gritty tough to play against guys while still have some skill (close to pt/gm in juniors). We should be solid.

You need to spend more time around other pro teams fans, Minnesota fans are middle of the road as far as annoying, it might be proximity.

It could be proximity, but I find Minnesota professional sports fans to be the most annoying. I know fans of many professional sports teams, but Vikings and Wild fans are easily the worst in my experience. They win a few games and they are Super Bowl bound or Stanley Cup bound and rub it in the faces of other teams' fans, and they lose a few games and they want to fire everyone, blow up the team and complain about how the refs always single their teams out. It is the same every year, and the announcers like Paul Allen and Kevin Gorg are just glorified cheerleaders.

Basically Toronto fans just less worse/annoying.

Every fan base gets excited. New York, Boston, and Philly fan bases are comparatively so much worse. MN sports seems more nihilist than anything in my opinion.
