According to Cam Robinson and Chris Peters, there are whispers around the world juniors tournament about guys going to North Dakota next year along with MacKenzie. I’m guessing he’s talking about Carels and maybe others. He states this around the 31 minute mark of this podcast today.

Also good insight on MacKenzie’s draft stock in there too. Sounds like he probably goes in the first two rounds.

Hmmm. I like it :)

They talk about Suvanto right after who someone mentioned Chyzyk follows.

It could be. Suvanto plays pro Europe so I am not sure if he’s eligible. With the current state of the NCAA, anything is possible.

I would guess they are referring to a CHL player. They are pretty tapped into CHL prospects.

Carels would make sense. Steiner is another potential one as well

He’s referring to multiple guys, which those two have been pretty linked to UND. The pool of uncommitted/eligible players is not very big at this this tournament, especially if you narrow it down to just players playing in juniors.

Suvanto according to elite prospects is on junior contract (so I believe he hasn’t signed an actual pro deal? Could be wrong though someone feel free to correct me)

Overall though very exciting to hear our name in the mix for recruiting.  (Especially considering we weren’t present enough in rinks the last few years per past reports). Credit to Bryn and staff for putting in the work in this short amount of time.

Not to nitpick, but Bryn started putting the work in the moment he hung up the skates.  A big part of our success this year is him reaping previous harvests.

Is Stenberg on a similar contract? I noticed he has followed UND hockey on instagram within the last couple of months. He also follows BC, BU, and Michigan. It seems like he has some interest in college hockey but I am not sure if he’s eligible.

Best way to tell is did they start on a U20 team, this isn't always mean they are ineligible, just gives everyone an idea if they signed a pro contract.

To be fair, if they are letting players who played in the AHL play college, I feel like anyone should be eligible

They are giving anyone who made below the $ threshold that the NCAA has set. Most believe that is $75-80k. So basically every ECHLer and many AHLers coming out of the CHL have been given NCAA eligiblity if they've applied

Isn't there also an age stipulation?

The age stipulation is that you start to lose a year or so of eligibility.

I can't remember the specifics but just for rough close example (if you arrive as a 22 year old, you will be considered a Sophomore in lieu of a freshman)

In last night’s press conference, Dane mentioned he is going down to St. Paul today to recruit some of the players when asked if he will be watching Canada tonight. It’s pretty significant for a head coach to make a recruiting trip in between game weeks, in my opinion.

Perhaps it's a scenario where Chyzyk has previously vetted the player with an introductory meeting to explain the program, gauge interest & assess his character; with Jackson following up like a salesman to "close the deal" (similar to Reschny where he drove to his farm in Sask. to meet him & his family). Thinking it's not Steiner he's going to meet since he's likely back in Switzerland or Quebec now. Maybe it's Carels, Suvanto or a similar caliber of player; & said player, due to team logistics, is unable to visit GF at this time.

Or maybe he, Chyzyk and Simpson want to party together if Team Canada wins the gold! ;)

It’s an hour flight each way and he surely has a ride down there.

It’d be silly to not take the opportunity.

I’m assuming Bryn has been around there for most, if not all of the tournament. UND is already represented there. Dane showing face is, at the very least, a nice gesture for potential recruits and their families. I doubt he’d go down there unless they were pretty far along in the recruitment of a player(s) if Bryn is already there.

They are probably looking at Carels and a European forward, like you said. That’s really all that is left to recruit in the tournament.

Is it an improper benefit to give them a ride on the charter jet up to GF for a visit? 2 years ago I knew the answer but not anymore. If nothing else he should fly down in it to show them how they would travel compared to bus rides to and from Prince George.
