Brim006 Posted August 4 Posted August 4 Is JTJ actually that much more mobile than the bunch or is that advantage a smaller gap than advertised? I love the idea of an elusive and game changer electric QB who bails out the offense time after time, even if he has a slightly downgraded arm. But if that gap isn't very big and Kaminski is winning the throwing comp, then it seems like it will be an easy decision. Either way it's awesome that UND seemingly has 2 solid options ahead of the starter from last year who's also still there, and likely better than he was last year himself...which essentially means they have THREE better options than they did at this time last year. That shows growth and progress, and that's exciting. 3 Quote

Jerry can run just fine but is a lot smaller. 3 1 Quote
wheelsup Posted Friday at 05:57 PM Posted Friday at 05:57 PM The latest undfootball360 podcast with fruechte was great. It had a lot of insight into what Isaac is looking for in a QB. His number one comment was he was looking for a QB that could push the ball up the field with his legs. Based on hearing that, I’m guessing romfos relatively poor throwing has a bit higher focus on this fan board than in the coaches decision criteria. Anyways he mentioned 3 QBs running neck and neck.. romfo, JTJ and kaminski.. very specifically said sulik needed to get better running. Additionaliy said he imagined there would be significant playing time for multiple QBs. Highly recommend listening if you have some time. 1 2 Quote

Yes, but at least he acknowledged it. If asked, he probably would given a “politician like answer” with a non answer. I do like what Schmidt said (indirect jab at last regime) about teaching the players about “work hard” or effort/hande adversity is. 1 3 Quote

I think one of the biggest improvements we will have this year is our mental toughness/grit. Just didn't seem to be enough fight in our team at times last year, particularly on the road. 2 Quote

Agreed, and if that means the only thing we got to b*tch about on this forum is too many practice fights, then it will be a net gain for the program. Team is toughening up one conflict at a time. 1 Quote

He never said last regime directly, he said players need to know how to “work hard” by pushing themselves through it. As a fan the past several years when things don’t go right, like what you said through last year the team did not handle adversity especially on the road. The one exception was our road win against a decent Youngstown State team in 2022. The year Schmidt left we were ravaged by injuries on the D-Line amd we maxed our 4 games on several Red shirt D-Line and got massacred up front against Eastern Washington. Also massacred at Idaho State. That being said, Schmidt worked under Kalen and Schmidt brought his guys in for his staff, it needed new people and ideas. I am hoping he utilized what he learned under Kalen and it translates well at UND. He has utilized the portal better than we have in the past and the incoming class appear best in D1 era on paper. 1st season I expect better overall play and playoff spot, year two compete as equals to the Dakota schools. (This year could happen, it will be up to the defense which is Schmidt’s) 1 3 Quote

MVFC is simply top heavy, mainly due to a program in Fargo that everyone should despise due to its out of control “fan base” as much as anything. It must be destroyed, and Schmidt is clearly the right man for the job here at UND. New ideas, new schemes, new staff, all timed along with new commitments and new facilities. Enjoy the ride. As for QB and offense, this is the first season that Fruechte gets at UND with guys he recruited (at least via transfer portal). I expect a big jump. And there clearly is a certain advantage deploying a QB that can run if they can do other things well also (make good decisions, be accurate, be a leader, etc.), and it is okay to simply come out and say that philosophically. 2 Quote

UND football has had, on paper, possibly its best off-season ever. Considering that, and with a game not even being played yet, how can you be critical of Coach Schmidt by commenting “spend more time looking in the mirror and spend less time talking about the ‘last regime’” ? first of all, he has not been spending much time talking about the “last regime” … only spending his time working and actually improving this thing secondly, the last regime deserves criticism … UND football sucked in 2024. zonadub Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago I just want to see UND become a place for coaches to move up to higher level programs, not sideways to the same position at schools in the same conference or the same division. 1 Quote

I definitely think UND football is going to become a destination (already sorta has to a degree)…. 1 Quote
