This to me is the legitimate complaint.

Peregrines wouldn't have been my first choice but definitely better and more unique that Fighting Hawks

They couldn't use the nickname in postseason games and it wasn't just national tournaments (because the NCAA wasn't hosting national tournaments on campus any longer), it was also conference postseason games and if they wore them during the postseason tournaments, the NCAA could recoup money from UND.
At the end of the day, keeping the nickname wasn't going to be an option once UND couldn't get Standing Rock to approve it.

Well said!! I thought I said it correctly but might've missed a bit of it in my post.

It was keep the sioux name and not be allowed to host national tournaments or change thename so they can. I look at the positive with the Hawks name we can host national tournaments.

Correct. I’m not saying they should have kept the name in open defiance. However, I would have preferred a compromise option of just not having a nickname at all. I understand I’m probably in the minority there, but that’s what I would have liked.

I think they didn’t want that because by default they would be referred to by the old nickname.

Nature abhors a vacuum.

No nickname would be just that.

And someone would've filled it for us (likely in impolite ways).

Rather than Nodaks as an option they should have just taken the stance “We are Nodak”, then they could have created the logo suggested and/or use Nodak on the jerseys.  To me, that would have been unique because how many teams are referred to by one thing.  Kind of like many people referring to Ohio State as “The Ohio State” rather than Buckeyes.

Hard to believe UND’s current nickname was chosen by a whopping 15,000 people. :silly:

Well that's only because they wouldn't allow the "no nickname" option.
