We’ll see if we sweep Arizona State in Arizona, and how the teams we’ve played so far fare going forward.  The rest of our non conference is pretty cupcake, so we’ll see if we can win the games we are supposed to win.

As much as we like seeing the Gophers lose, should we actually be rooting for them given we played them and for rankings purposes?

Yes for sure.  I don't imagine we'll have much trouble with Mercyhurst, even if we're missing some WJC guys.  But BSU has given us issues lately...all those darn trap teams.

Northeastern with their 2nd big win in a row, beating BC 4-1.
Both of their wins against DU and BC they got outshot by a ton but still came away with the win.

BC now 2-3-1 on the season.

Remember when UNLV beat Denver last year?  Well they played University of Jamestown last night and tonight and they split. UNLV currently number 1 and Jimmie’s number 6. Pretty dang hockey to watch

UW beats UMN 5-2 and outshoots them 43-16.
Gonna be a long season for the Gophers...their Sat night win against us might end up being the highlight of their season.

Minnesota is in deep, deep trouble if the vision for their program does not change. Adapt to the CHL opening up, or die. There is no excuse for the product that is on the ice right now for them.

If I’m a coach with some pressure on me like Bob, I just don’t understand the rationale for not going after a couple of players from the CHL. 

 

To give some credit to the big 10 I don’t know how the Gophers can expect to be competitive while a lot of their peers went out to get a CHL players to improve their own rosters.
 

I don’t think below .500 is out of the question for them, so he’s really going to have his ass in the jackpot if that happens

Motzko "liked his recruits" and was skeptical of how good CHLers are (because he has no idea about major junior hockey and the talent it produces). Really bad arrogance on his part to not go and add talent right after he lost most of his top scorers at the end of last season.

Especially if that news was correct that some CHL prospects reached out to him but he turned them away.
The other top B10 teams all added multiple absolute stud CHL guys and other than Mooney, there's not a ton of high-end skill on MN's current FR group.

Levi Harper is the only guy I would make an effort to steer away from gophers. Everyone else is either local or not very good. I wouldn’t say the locals are that great either.

That report was definitely true but in Bob’s defense, the ones that have to reach out are probably not that good. I’m sure they kicked tires on a few top guys but were shut down pretty quick. If Bob didn’t even kick tires, that’s a fireable offense in itself the way this team looks so far.

We have seen that other than the top CHL talent, the rest have struggled just like any other freshmen.  Even Gavin McKenna hasn’t been the dominant force yet many thought he would be.  If anything, Motzko should have gone to the transfer portal to get more experience, because as you said before, Minnesota doesn’t have the staff to be able to bring in top CHL talent.  
Doesn’t help they were missing Ludtke and who knows when they get back Townsend.  Wisconsin has some very experienced graduate players that really looked like Minnesota’s defense couldn’t handle.  

That said, Minnesota should be able to put up a better effort than that against a rival on their opening league games. By the way, does anyone here believe that if we were playing a rival on a Thursday at home it wouldn’t be a sellout?  Absolutely pathetic crowd for Wisconsin.

I would take Cullen and Kvasnicka.  Kvasnicka is putting up a lot better numbers in the CHL than most of our guys.

Sorta the case, sorta not. Did you consider Kocha Delic a "top CHL talent" before he stepped on Miami's campus and started producing? I did, but most did not. Same goes for Teydon Trembecky at Michigan Tech. Oliver Peer (Bemidji State) and Giovanni Morneau (Lindenwood) were good in junior and then in USports for a year, coming into the NCAA at a much older age and have been productive right away.

Fitzhenry and Schnieder are must gets for Minnesota. At this point, I think they both go to Michigan. 
 

UND could potentially get in on Fitzhenry. There is not a ton of information out there about him but his instagram following is Michigan and Minnesota.
