Hey, I used some of the same arguments Schlossman was making defending Berry for years, but one has to ask Schlossman the question, how long could that chart that Oxbow referenced go on before it became a problem and not just "unlucky" in his eyes?  When you see the fanbase slipping into apathy and not watching games, that seems the time to, like Barney Fife would say, "Nip it in the Bud"!

Hey, Berry was an NHL assistant, and Blais was an Associate for Columbus and coached the Fargo Force for a stint after that.

I guess I should have said Head Coach...anyway, Hakstol had his turn so I figured it wouldn't be something he would be interested in.  Who the hell knows?

I am surprised by all the ripping on Schloss he is the best writer in all of college hockey.  I am surprised he doesn't go to the athletic and work as a national college reporter.  Ì think those on this forum also need to take a deep breath and let schloss process this just like everyone else has to.  Can't wait to see who the new coach is , and i personally hope whoever we hire becomes a key contact of Schloss's on day one

Is this tampering situation an out right rules violation or more of gentleman's agreement thing that makes it uncool to do?

Do you guys not know this is happening at every school?

Every "agent" is checking around to see who would be interested in their player.  Every coach is letting back channels communicate to a target "hey, there could be a spot for ya here...."

This is not news.  It's the landscape.

It is generally pretty hard to get players to flip if the program is running smoothly.  The fact that programs noticed big cracks in the program where they could get someone to jump ship is just another indictment on the regime.  Thanks for making the argument for regime change Brad.  I will add, why wasn't Alex Bump on everyones hit list, as that guy has it all.  Could it be that Western has created a culture that attract players?

Baloney.  Money talks.

Family stayed in GFK all this time. Years of the reality of NHL HC gigs - living by himself, working his ass off with no investment from the franchise, then being unceremoniously fired only to have predecessors underperform you…

No idea his thought process, but he’s already more than funded his retirement and making $4-500k annually for a school he bleeds Kelly green for, moving back home, and likely has been concerned about the direction... Could have its appeal? He’s certainly been taking advantage of his paid year off and staying close to the team.

I’d gladly see him back, personally.

Could probably get more money as an NHL assistant

Considering how very slanted this is towards BB, whose wife probably couldn't write a more syrupy love poem than this article, I would question how much of this is truth & how much of it is trying to make the athletic department look bad.

From his article, or hit piece:

"Opposing teams have been trying to recruit some UND players to hit the transfer portal since late January."

Ok, if that's the truth, then why didn't he report on this in January? And if this actually has been happening, giving Schlossman the benefit of the doubt, then it's safe to say that no players are safe on any team. Not just UND.

The UND hockey program needs its main journalist to be its biggest cheerleader now so that the transition can be as smooth as possible, not writing how doom & gloom it is & scaring away players. By acting like this he's pouring fuel on the fire to any player who may be on the fence. You're doing the program no favors now, Schlossman, time to get over your little bro-mance & get back to supporting the team in these critical hours.

Opposing teams have contacted our players. This is a fact. They go through agents

Sure, he definitely has paths to more money. But he is sitting VERY well financially and family, loyalty/legacy, etc. may be driving him more than professional ambition at this point. Lots of tea leaves over the last year aligning to the possibility of his return which I wouldn’t have expected. We’ll know soon enough.

I'm gonna keep beating the Eric Lang drum!

  • 8 seasons of a combination of full-time collegiate or professional hockey coaching experience and/or professional hockey playing experience.

Coincidentally Lang has 8 years of head coaching experience at the collegiate level.

How long would Hakstol want to stick around this time? I really hope he doesn't stay too long like Gino and Berry did.
