So join the Big 10 and get 6-7 digshit teams you have to play instead??   I am not defending their independence I think they should join a conference but they have an affiliation with the ACC and played 6 of those teams this season.  Can't help if those teams suck mostly.  These schedules are made years in advance.

2026 memo of understanding states that Notre Dame guaranteed a spot going forward if ranked 12 or above. 
 

Also, all P4 champions guaranteed a spot. This thing is headed to 14 or 16 we should know more by 1/26/26

They finished with a higher strength of schedule than multiple p4 at-large playoff teams this year, with a relatively down schedule. The issue regarding a conference is not having other schools shill on your behalf (for their benefit and your own, appearances mean money). In the case of the SEC and ACC, they also happen to be TV partners with ESPN...you can take a guess who they want in the playoffs lol
