Offer to SDSU DB who appeared to have left the team early in the season to preserve eligibility. Was as Eastern Michigan last year and played quite a bit.

Played JUCO too so may have even more eligibility than he originally thought.

It is still used by some of the top teams in the FBS and more than a handful of NFL teams.
What base defense you run doesn't really matter if you don't have the players to run it and/or they aren't fundamentally sound. UND hasn't been able to consistently get the athletes they need to run it.

We would be salivating if we ever got a transfer like this. Hopefully with the new staff we can get some higher end potential portal transfers.

Not sure I would get too excited. He may be a hidden gem but hasn’t done anything special at the college level. His HS stats weren’t as good as either Kaminski or Feeney.

This young man was recruited to the University of Southern California because he obviously has the tools to be successful, just perhaps needs a change in scenery. Kaminksi and Feeney don’t quite have those tools, based on their relative lack of recruiting interest, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be successful at UND or the DI level.

All in all, no reason not to be excited for a transfer from a Power 4 conference, and no reason to rule out lesser recruited under the radar types.

They’re all good prospects that need the proper coaching and the proper supporting cast to be successful, and at the end of the day, with quarterbacks, you sometimes either have it or you don’t.

He graduated HS in 2018. Was at BYU then JC hasn’t played much since JC. Probably one of the getting down to 105 players

Cole Pennington, son of former NFLer Chad, is leaving Marshall for USD.

Cue the "his HS stats weren't as good as X,Y and Z" and "he hasn't done anything yet in college" crowd.

Meanwhile at UND.......

I wouldn’t mind more portal signings

Agreed! Having them in for spring ball is very important if they’re going to contribute right away. Hope to see a few more in the coming days!

What the hell is the “hasn’t done anything yet in college crowed”?

My response was to a post “We would be salivating “ if we got a transfer like this. This guys has bounced around to different schools and was on USC’s team. I don’t know if he was “recruited” to USC nor whether or not he was on scholarship.  It’s clear he wasn’t in their plans. Show me game film and I might change my mind.
I said he might be a “hidden gem”.  I’m not part a crowd nor do I think everyone FBS “drop down” can play at the FCS level.

@Oxbow6 is simply expressing the commonly felt frustration of our fan base that while the other Dakota schools are in the FCS semifinals, the flagship university of North Dakota is left with hoping there are no significant losses to the portal.

That being said, I have faith in Schmidt that he will make noticeable improvements in the program. It just won't happen fast enough for any of us.

I would argue we are more worried about significant additions from the portal vs. losses.

If I can also throw in the "but fall camp" and "but completion percentage" crowds to the conversation as well.

If some of you are getting your Christmas thongs in a bunch my apologies for your inability to see the bigger picture.

Idk how many QBs could have made this team that much better. Maybe a win or 2 but overcoming our defense would be a big challenge for most FCS QBs.

How would any of us know. One left town and didn't give another one any opportunity to prove otherwise.

BTW would have 2 more wins gotten this year's team a playoff bid?

Asking for the other 3 Dakota schools.

You’re right and I can promise you we wouldn’t still be playing and good chance Bubba doesn’t “step down”. Domino effect.

Sure you can. Just like I can throw in the “bigger picture” learned from the stands, the TV and a fantasy FB league crowd so you don’t feel left out.
