I probably shouldn’t have brought it up on here. Don’t want to derail what’s actually happening.

Anyways, just watched the Dariyus Woodson Midco feature. Seems like a good kid. I would be lying though if I wasn’t frustrated with how he’s played out. I knew coming in that 3s was what he liked to shoot but I really think he has a skill set to provide more than that. Not saying he will be a post presence but he is built more than I thought coming in. Feel like he could be a bit more of a point forward almost? Idk just don’t think he should be exclusively a chucker at 31% from 3. Also, has 3 total rebounds in conference play. Shocking for a 6’7” guy playing significant minutes.

Im a big Woodson fan, seems like a great addition to the team and a great human being. But definitely agree he needs to develop his all around game more on defense and crashing the boards. 3 total rebounds is crazy for conference play

As some would say, it is strange and odd behavior from a young adult.

yes all shots at sather have been unprovoked.

DAE behavior is strange and odd behavior just like its strange and odd behavior how much it upsets people that a player who hasn’t played a game for UND in 5 years says something negative about Sather. He is clearly getting what he wants with seeing how worked up some people get after he makes a post. Really wish DAE would’ve been an all summit league player for UND and hoping for the best for him in his pro career

I should add that with the recent NCAA ruling he could technically be a freshman. Believe the waiver right now is only for seniors (Amar).

As many have pointed out, it has been a disappointing year so far. Take out the money games and the non d-1s and they’re like 4-10 or something like that against “like” opponents.

Defensively, it’s been a train wreck to say the least, and Treysen is struggling.

if it continues this way, then und does probably make a change.

Sather is a good coach, i will stand by that, it just hasn’t worked out at UND like im sure he would have wanted, he’d be the first to tell you that would be my guess.

I like Sather. Seems like a really good dude and from many trusted people, a good coach. A lot has happened since he took this job with COVID, the portal and NIL. Now that’s not to say other coaches don’t have that same excuse but he excelled in a different world of college athletics and at a program that prioritized basketball rather than one where it is maybe the 3rd fiddle.

If things don’t turn around, it does seem like he may have an opportunity to go back to Northern though with the trainwreck Saul has there.

I dont know if anyone else listens to the Reaching the Summit podcast, but I just finished the episode from 2 weeks ago and I think they nailed UND.   Defense is lacking, poor shot selection, team not jelling and coach not getting them the right plays.   Until we get a change at the head spot afraid this is our future.

Just listened the most recent podcast. They were saying the league feels like it’s down but then stated the Summit is the 20th rated conference, which is up from 24 where it normally is. I think I said on here a couple weeks ago that this is the best the summit has been since we’ve joined. I guess I wouldn’t have guessed people feel like it’s down

Maybe it's because Oral Roberts is so down and people aren't used to St. Thomas leading the way for the conference.

I think it also has to do with all the high end players no longer being in the league. Not saying there’s not new high end players but the league lost a lot of talent last year that had been around a few years. Zeke, Frankie, BJ, Tyree, Andrew Morgan, Boden (yuck), Bjorklund, Bruner.

He's in his 20th year of head coaching. If he was as bad as some insinuate, you'd hear a lot more about it.
But what you stated is what you hear almost universally from co-workers, other coaches, former players and those that have interacted with him in multiple other facets.
Doesn't change the results being below expectations but the continued questioning of his character seems to be a one-off, mostly from one person who it appears has their own baggage (with plenty of examples) and an axe to grind years later.

I think we're all hoping they can figure out how to play team defense, run a more efficient offense and go on a second half run like they did last year.

The way I look at it, St Thomas, ndsu, and SDSU are all very good teams that could be competitive in the ncaa tournament. Omaha on paper so far belongs in that tier. The preseason #1 team is probably 5th in the conference. You look at a team like UND, currently ranked 8th in the conference, and they’re 268 kenpom which is way better than your historical 8th place summit league team

UND currently has the 355th ranked defense according to KenPom. There’s 364 teams…. In Sather’s 6 years here, his highest rated defense was 272. Brian Jones in 10 years of stats had 4 years below 272 with a low of 346 but he also had years ranked 135 and 157.

Defense is now 350th! Teams are shooting 39.1% from 3 against us. 58.6% from 2.

Why is the defense so bad

players dont understand defensive assignments?

coaches arent coaching them up?

they just don’t give a sh it ?

Add in: Undersized 5 man

bingo...our bigs don't scare anyone in the summit and maybe the nsic...

brian and giorgie and amir have a combined vertical leap of 30...if that.

This team is undersized at the 5 with that and not as quick at the 2 & 3 leads us to terrible defense by us getting set up with many mismatches. This really showed up against SDSU with them having 4 young quick players at the guard position who could drive and were shooting unbelievable 3 percentage. Cluff we couldn’t matchup and if we gave help their guards were open or got edge on drive because of Cluff or even Wilkinson. Then they were effective in defending Eaglestaff so we became very mediocre team. We are missing T and Omot players we added to replace them are undersized and do not have exceptional skills other teams have to deal with. We did replace point guard position with Panoam who has exceptional skills around the basket but still needs work on his defense and learning how to take advantage of opposing players. It appears to me we have invested into many high school development players of size that are not capable of playing at this level when we needed depth that could play now.  This team has three very good players on the staring 5 and one very good role player but is now lacking very good 5 player and good guard at the 2 to 3 position which we had last year with Eaglestaff and then having exceptional 3 with Omot  last year.

Tyree made the team go last season.

Yep. Not having an actual PG kills us. Panoam isn’t a PG and Treysen cannot play the backup PG for a winning team. No other way to put it

Alright, 2-4 through 6 SL games. 10 more to go. What’s everyone’s predictions on the rest of the way? In my opinion we should beat USD at home on Thursday and then ORU and Denver at home too. I don’t know how many more wins I see outside of that though. Maybe at USD? Maybe at KC? I think that’s it. At BEST 7-9. At worst, we should be 5-11. Both those outcomes are unacceptable though.

My predictions for wins the rest of the way: vs Denver, vs ORU.

Unless our defense significantly improves I just don't think we can get the stops to win many more games on our schedule.

Hope I am dead wrong!!

I just need to beat Paul Bruns another time. He’s 1-3 against UND.

As of now I’ll say we beat ORU, Denver, USD twice, and 1 win against KC, UST, Omaha, ndsu, or SDSU. I don’t know who it’ll be out of that group
