yes, because SDSU uses it as a “recruiting” tactic that they win every year, they probably get to stay in their dorms/rooms. And it is a home game for them because all their fans travel there. it is a 50 minute drive.

Yes, normally winning a lot of games helps in recruiting

MOVE THE TOURNAMENT. SDSU AND USD GET A HOME GAME EVERY YEAR! MOVE IT!

this comes up every year and it never gains any traction. The main point being SDSU fans show up and teams enjoy playing in front of nice crowds and it doesn't matter to them if they are rooting for them or against them. Plus they make good money.  Not going anywhere.

Have they tried it in a different place?

no, my main point being that they only have to travel at tops an hour, while teams like denver or oral roberts have to travel 10-12 hours, and for denver, its in a compmetdifferent timezone. put the tournament in desmoine or stl.

im pretty sure they tried in tulsa before, or kansas city, the summit needs to move it to some place without any teams, like des moines, stl, or chicago.

Or, maybe they should do it like baseball. The team who won the tournament hosts. So, this year Omaha/st thomas would host. That seems fair, or do the opposite, the worst team hosts, so Oral roberts would host this upcoming year.

I don't have a problem with letting them play. They are in the conference after all. It would be kinda weird i think to leave them at home. I don't think anyone complained in previous years?

They shouldn't  play

I think it's good in Sioux Falls. People whine about it there because SDSU and USD are close, but it's pretty central, great venue, and the town is supportive.

Easy drive from Eastern ND, Minneapolis, Omaha, not bad from KC, and Denver people are probably gonna fly no matter where we put it.

Nothing is stopping a healthy contingent of UND, NDSU, UNO etc. fans making it a point to head down to Sioux Falls for a weekend.

Let them be regular season champs, be eligible for awards etc..

But if they are ineligible to go to the NCAA tourney, why let them be in the conference tourney? Especially if the point of the conference tourney is the fact that the winner of the tournament gets to move on the NCAA tourney.

If they add Utah schools as is being reported I think the tournament gets moved to one of bigger cities for the tournament travel would just be easier flying like into Minneapolis, Denver, St. Louis or Omaha and close teams can still bus.  The place I believe that could fill number of seats would be Minneapolis and with St. Thomas there would be good following by there fan base. I also think Fargo and us would travel well plus large alumni base living in the cities. SDSU should travel well to the cities.  KC , ORU, Denver, and Utah schools will travel there as well as they do Sioux Falls maybe better because of Mall of America more affordable to fly there.  It would be nice to have tournament on neutral floor and not give the two South Dakota schools such recruiting advantage in the Summit tournament. I also would help in long term retaining ORU, KC, Denver, and future conference members.

You are really armchairing this - it's considered the bid mid-major tournament in the country for atmosphere and venue.
