SiouxFan100 Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Interesting “To clarify, it doesn’t matter what happens to the Lions on Monday Night Football when they face the San Francisco 49ers. Even if the Lions were to lose to the 49ers, they would still win the North and the #1 seed with a victory over Minnesota next week” Quote

Seems like something is wrong with the system Division winners have always had home field for the first game since playoff expansion even before realignment in 2002. The owners want that to reward division winners with something extra that non-division winners don't get. So that's not going to change as long as the owners want to reward division winners. It always isn't as obvious as this year either, what if a division winner is 10-7 and a wildcard is 11-6, but had such an easy schedule that people feel they aren't as good. Should the 11-6 team host just because they have a better record? You have to look at those scenarios too when deciding on a playoff format. Quote
fightingsioux4life Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Some division winner in the NFC is going to be pissed at having to play a 14 win wild card team at home. Quote

Wilbur Posted December 31, 2024 Author Posted December 31, 2024 The game in Detroit is huge. You lose, and you've got to win three games (likely on the road) starting the next week to make it to the big game. The only chance to play at home would be if Green Bay and Washington knocked off Philly and the Rams. Then you've got Green Bay at home. Either loses and it's the road to Philly or LA. Both lose, and it's back to Detroit. I'm not saying it's impossible, but you are stacking the deck against yourself if you don't win at Detroit. Quote

A ticket to the playoffs is all that should be included as a division winner. The owners disagree with this, and have been disagreeing with this for number of years now. Quote

The NFC North is an absolute beast this year and it’s a travesty that a 14-3 team will wind up going on the road for the first round of the playoffs. Not as bad as 8-9 division “winner” Seattle hosting a playoff game against the Saints about a decade back, but close! Quote

I’d settle for a 10 win minimum win threshold for division winners, otherwise reseed ‘em. Quote

Kab Posted January 2 Posted January 2 I’m so used to the wheels falling off the Vikings, just wondering when it will happen 1 Quote
rochsioux Posted January 3 Posted January 3 I would use a points system to seed teams. Two points for a win, one for a tie. I would award bonus points to division winners, say three points. Quote

Winning three straight road games is significantly harder than winning two home games. A loss tonight means they will play the Rams next weekend, not a good matchup for the Vikings defense. Quote
