dagies Posted October 21, 2002 Share Posted October 21, 2002 I think this is an important series this weekend. The guys need to make REA their home ice. They didn't really own it last year and it sounds as if this year's team is gunning to make the REA a place people don't want to come and play, just like the old REA. Niagara played Michigan pretty well so I would guess they are better than Canisius. The team will have to play well to win. It is my feeling they need to sweep these games just to create and begin to build that home-ice momentum, especially with so many home games before Christmas. I'm excited to see how the team reacts as the season progresses. I expect Parise's numbers will not match his first weekend. That is too much to expect and he will now be getting Spiewak/Notermann/Calder type treatment I would expect. So it will be very impressive if we can find other guys on the ice to handle the scoring load, guys like Bochenski, Lundbohm, Massen, Genoway(?), etc. It will be good to have Genoway on the ice to see what he can do. And it will also help a lot to have Canady back in the lineup when that day comes. We will be much deeper at that point. Schmitzzz Posted October 21, 2002 Share Posted October 21, 2002 The Parise-Q-Money line will be very dangerous this year. You can certainly have a man shadow Parise, but Easy Money can burn you too. I think Quinn will only get better playing with these two guys. I have been drooling over the thought of this line combo since the end of last season... I was happy to hear that Dean put these three together. I would like to see the Notermann/Spiewak line put up against the opposition's top line. These guys have proven their ability to shut down anyone. In the game against CC two years ago at the East Regional they took on CC's top line and did very well. I'm sure having The Ralph's training facilities have a lot to do with it. Couldn't believe I heard Boo's at the end of the first period. At the beginning of the season the team is still working out the kinks. You will see a team that has what it takes to come back in the 3rd. & put them away. The killer instinct that was lacking last year will be very evident as the season progresses. Looking forward to another good game tomorrow. jk Posted October 26, 2002 Share Posted October 26, 2002 I only got to hear pieces of the game, as I was busy parenting this evening, but I was pleased to hear that the upperclassmen stepped up - 3 goals between Spee and Notermann. Two shorties on the same PK shift, when you started the PK down two goals - that's senior leadership. (It's too bad NU scored later in the PP, or it would have been perfect.) I should "not listen" more often. I stepped away down 0-2 and came back to 2-3, then I left just after NU made it 4-4, and came back to 6-4. I would enjoy reading people's impressions of players, including Genoway, Massen, Connelly, Fylling, Prpich and whoever made an impression on you. Thanks. Niagara is a fun team to watch/play, just like Coach Blais said, agressive and fast. Don't know if anyone mentioned but in the 2nd Niagara could've had another goal, the side was totally open but the Niagara player couldn't put his stick on the puck. Mike Prpich and Matt Greene dressed instead of Rory McMahon (was he injured?) and Lee Marvin. First game for both freshmen (MP and MG). They seemed a little tight at first - by the 3rd period Prpich was roaming in front of the net - seemed like he likes to talk too - appeared that he's not afraid to let the other team know that he's around I think it was MG who let one rip from the blue line - missed by a lot but it sounded hard when it hit the glass "I" think that James Massen needs to get one really good hit on someone right away in the game 'cause it seems like he gets energized - if I recall, on Tuesday he crushed a player or two early in the game and then he was just dominant on offense - tonight he didn't really get anyone lined up until much later in the period (Niagara was much quicker than Manitoba so to line someone up appeared to be much more difficult). I know that people like to pick on BB skating - but he is doing something right whether you like his style or not, this Niagara team was quick but he managed to break away on 2 on 1 a couple times (and it wasn't like he was sitting out at center ice waiting for a pass). It is a great feeling to leave a game when "we" won coming from a goal(s) down (not that I want the team to trail in games - but they are just so darn fun/exciting to watch) - fingers are crossed that they'll once again "own the 3rd period". Speez, please see Riverman's thread - I honestly don't think that the boos were for the team - I think they/we/the fans were initiating the HE referee..... Hopefully the sioux can player even better tonight. Wasn't that the Hale penalty, that resulted in the 2 SHG's and a PPG for Niagara? Seemed to set the tone for the rest of the game, as the Sioux overwhelmed Niagara from that point on. Keep it up tonight right from the start. Parise is amazing, picking up his second hat trick already! Lundbohm nearly got one, too. Looking forward to laying the smack down on Princeton & Yale. That should be a fun weekend for Sioux fans. Did anyone else cover their face when Notermann's first SH attempt beat the goalie but hit the post? I almost died I felt so bad for him. I was really happy to see both he and Spiewack come back just a bit later with SH goals. What a redemption for Notermann. Regarding those two, I really thought they both showed a more dominating offensive ability on the ice on Friday. Really impressive. Parise is a great player but still a freshman, ala the drop pass in a bad part of town. Ouch. I was very surprised to see Brandt play Sat as the he seemed pretty average on Friday??
